There has never been a more appropriate time to use the phrase, "A new player has entered the game," than after Gamescom 2026. While the event has been used to show off upcoming games for years, this is the first year where Gamescom's opening night has had a significant Chinese gaming industry presence. With games like Ananta, The Defiant, and Nodusfall coming in the near future, it's a clear sign that other AAA developers are going to have to put their best foot forward if they wish to compete. Tides of Annihilation is evidently inspired by the tale of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table; Nodusfall is being advertised as a sort of Elden Ring and Monster Hunter mashup with co-op elements; and Showa American Story is a kind of absurdist beat-'em-up that (as the name suggests) satirizes American culture.
