Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave is a sprawling tale composed of four different interconnected heroes, each with their own story campaign. These can be played in any order, and the choice might seem daunting. Which hero is the best to start your journey with? Eshmel, the Pale Raven Or, Just Jump Around So in broad terms, the characters are essentially ordered left-to-right to give you a smooth path through the game, if you take them in that order: Cai to ease you into the world and mechanics, Dietrich to get a lot of combat experience, Theodora to build on the others' combat and story complexity, and Leda to round it out with support and a more personal story.
