In what seemed to be an inevitability, Electronic Arts announced the closure of BioWare this week, including the cancellation of its current project, a future iteration in the Mass Effect series. The writing has been on the wall for some time, and EA's recent sale to Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) sealed its fate. Much can (and should) be said about BioWare's ability to create fully realized, original worlds like those of Mass Effect and Dragon Age. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic The creators of Knights of the Old Republic had the vision to set it in a new era of Star Wars, thousands of years before the events of the original movie, separating its story from the main continuity of films that has become a crutch for lots of modern Star Wars stories both in and outside of games.
Let’s face it, if you are a Castlevania fan or just love metroidvania games in general, you’re probably sinking your teeth into Belmont’s Curse . After all, it just got a glowing review from our own Steve Watts , and like plenty of the rest of you, I’ve also been eagerly waiting for a new Castlevania adventure for over a decade. One indie team in particular seems keen to grab your attention once your time with Belmont's Curse is over, having recently released a demo for their Castlevania-adjacent roguelike. That game is Draftula , which asks, "What if Dracula commissioned you to build his labyrinthine castle?" Draftula’s demo is available on Steam for everyone to try right now.
The iconic dungeon crawling board game, HeroQuest, is getting a videogame adaptation. Balor Games and Nomad Games have announced HeroQuest: Digital Edition, which will bring the influential board game to PC in 2027. The HeroQuest: Digital Edition Announcement The announcement of HeroQuest: Digital Edition happened during The Mix Fall Showcase. Given the developer's past work, which ranges between $12-$29 MSRP, that price may be a much lower bar to entry given recent board game copies can be north of $100.
Funcom to lay off staff as it pivots to focusing solely on Conan Exiles and Dune: Awakening CEO and 22-year company veteran Rui Casais to leave Tencent-owned developer once "difficult phase" of restructuring completes, to be replaced by Scott Junior Norwegian developer Funcom has begun a restructuring process following a decision to focus solely on live operations for Conan Exiles and Dune: Awakening, with an unknown number of staff affected. CEO Rui Casais, who has lead the developer for 11 years including through its 2020 acquisition by Tencent, will leave the business at the end of the year, to be succeeded by Chief Product Officer Scott Junior. “Dune: Awakening has been the biggest project we have ever undertaken, requiring many years of significant development resources across our studios,” said Casais in a statement. It followed the 2018 launch of Conan Exiles, which the firm said had recovered its development budget in five days on its way to becoming one of its "most profitable and most-played games." Tencent's Yong-yi Zhu previously told GamesIndustry.biz that service games were part of Funcom's DNA: "They design games to be live services, and we support them on that journey." Tencent has been taking a "more assertive" approach with its studio portfolio in the last eighteen months and divested a number of businesses including Secret Mode, Splash Damage and Bulkhead.

It’s fair to say that, across the three games in the reboot series so far, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s story has been far from a simple one. With the amount of action happening during each mission, combined with key plot points occurring outside of the core campaigns in places like Warzone’s Verdansk, it can be difficult to keep track. Thankfully, we’re here to give you as succinct a summary as we can of the story so far ahead of Modern Warfare 4’s release. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (2023) The hell Makarov resides in would be the Modern Warfare 3 campaign itself: a selection of rehashed multiplayer maps and slices of Warzone’s Verdansk that barely manage to hold together a story.

Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave has only been out for a few days, but someone has already discovered tech to help you recruit units even faster. In Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, your chosen character gets their own party members to take part in the Heroic Games. However, during your downtime outside of these battles, you are able to explore Dagdan and meet new units who you can then convince to join your cause. These are determined by your Renown: a stat you can boost while performing actions in-game, and Support: a bond with the character akin to Persona's Social Links.
Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave is a massive game that can easily last well over 100 hours. But you can actually make it a little less massive with the surprising ability to skip over a whole swath of the game, as players are starting to discover. Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave consists of four story arcs starring separate protagonists, the four Flame Lords: Cai, Dietrich, Theodora, and Leda. You can play these in any order (though we have some recommendations ) and by themselves each of these campaigns can last around 10-20 hours.
As a series, Fire Emblem has had two standout features compared to other tactical RPGs. First, characters can build relationships with their allies, and in more recent entries, even become romantically involved. Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave doesn't focus on the seduction side at all, preferring to show the camaraderie between teammates. The second feature, one that's been there since the first NES game, is that characters can permanently perish in combat.
Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave is a sprawling tale composed of four different interconnected heroes, each with their own story campaign. These can be played in any order, and the choice might seem daunting. Which hero is the best to start your journey with? Eshmel, the Pale Raven Or, Just Jump Around So in broad terms, the characters are essentially ordered left-to-right to give you a smooth path through the game, if you take them in that order: Cai to ease you into the world and mechanics, Dietrich to get a lot of combat experience, Theodora to build on the others' combat and story complexity, and Leda to round it out with support and a more personal story.
Few movies can truly say they hit the ground running, but Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil is among them. And that’s a good thing, because after so many Resident Evil movies, every new one needs a running start to have a chance of making it. We can’t talk about a Resident Evil movie without doing a little bit of table-setting first, though. Resident Evil debuted on PlayStation in 1996 and coined the name for an emerging game genre: Survival Horror.

Some of WoW's hardest dungeons and raids have gotten just a bit easier—that's on purpose, developers say "People are a little bit more willing now to say, 'Well I'd like to try out tanking. I'd like to try out healing.'" World of Warcraft's developers are making some subtle shifts in dungeons and raids to help players with its more-difficult content, in the hopes that a variety of knock-on effects result, including increased participation in the game overall and a better balance of tanks, healers and damage dealers. In the case of WoW's timed-dungeon Mythic Plus mode, it was a matter of making it just a bit easier to get to the mythic-level rewards of the weekly vault, says Paul Kubit, associate game director in charge of the Midnight expansion. She scored one measly point against Jonathan “Fatal1ty” Wendel in Unreal Tournament and was, exceedingly briefly, top 50 world in Halo.
