With a surprise remaster of The Lord of the Rings: War in the North dropping earlier this month and Andy Serkis’ film, Hunt for Gollum, now in production, I’ve had a real desire to jump back into Middle-earth recently. It was a formative fictional world for millions, whether you read J. Tolkien’s classic novels or fell deeply in love with the fantasy universe through Peter Jackson’s masterful film trilogy. But as a lifelong fan of turn-based JRPGs who grew up with classics like Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger, there is one LOTR video game in the avalanche of tie-ins that stood out above all others, and despite the hostile nature of this piece’s headline, I have plenty of nice things to say about it: The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age.
