Resident Evil’s theatrical ending was nearly very different, with director Zach Cregger revealing that the final sequence was actually his “plan B,” created using backup footage. Cregger’s Resident Evil tells the story of Bryan, a medical courier who finds himself trapped in Raccoon City during a rapidly escalating outbreak. Rather than directly adapting one of the games, the film follows a brand new protagonist while using familiar locations, monsters, and mechanics from the franchise, so it’s still recognisable but remains completely unpredictable. Well, that unpredictable nature even impacted Cregger, after he revealed that the end of the film was not the conclusion Cregger originally planned.
