Squadron 42 has been delayed until Q2 2027 after creator Chris Roberts said he does not want the 12-year Star Citizen project competing with GTA 6 for attention. Cloud Imperium Games announced Squadron 42 alongside Star Citizen in 2012, although Roberts dates its active development back to 2014. The wider Star Citizen project recently surpassed $1 billion in crowdfunding while still in alpha. Squadron 42 moves to 2027 to escape GTA 6 coverage In an August 27 Letter from the Chairman, Roberts revealed that Cloud Imperium had planned to release Squadron 42 during Q4 2026 around its annual Intergalactic Aerospace Expo.
