A phone scammer took revenge on a Canadian woman who refused to fall for a bank fraud scheme by sending heavily armed police to her home in a terrifying swatting incident. Lynn Clark Colpitts, a real estate agent from Nova Scotia, received a call on October 23 from a woman who claimed to work in the fraud department at the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC). The caller claimed someone had applied for a credit card in her name and instructed her to download an app called “CIBC Guard” to stop the supposed fraudulent activity. In July, an Arizona gamer filed a $176 million lawsuit after being paralyzed during a police response to a fake emergency call.
