A US lawmaker has announced plans to introduce legislation that would give gamers ownership of the video games they purchase, preventing publishers from taking away access when online services shut down. Ritchie Torres of New York announced the Power To The Players Act on October 16, a proposed bill that would direct the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to establish new consumer protections for video game purchases. The basketball game launched in September 2024, with its standard edition priced at $69.99 and its All-Star Edition costing $99.99. Despite those prices, NBA 2K25 is scheduled to be removed from digital storefronts on October 30, 2026, with its online servers shutting down on December 31.
