Drive!Drive!Drive!

Ubisoft are laying off around 40 people at Ubisoft Toronto, the studio behind the forthcoming remake of the original Splinter Cell . That’s approximately eight percent of the studio headcount. It’s all in the service of Ubisoft’s drive to cut costs after restructuring their operations around a big dollop of Tencent funding , which has elsewhere seen Ubisoft propose to lay off up to 200 people in Paris , and chop fixed costs by €200 million over the next two years.
It feels weird to buy a peripheral in order to play games you don't own. I'm generally very positive about the Nintendo Classics offered through the Nintendo Switch Online membership (and the classic Mega Drive games). I know I'll lose access if I stop subscribing, but it feels like a reasonable fee to get these on top of other benefits. But, just like I have never bought DLC for a game I don't own, I find the idea of needing to buy a peripheral to play the newly added Virtual Boy games a little hard to swallow.
Amid soaring SSD prices , slower-but-cheaper mechanical hard drives may have offered an attractive reprieve for anyone wanting to embiggen their PC storage on a – and I know it’s increasingly difficult to use this word without breaking down into desperate laugh-crying – budget. Unfortunately, that probably ain’t happening either, as leading HDD manufacturers Western Digital and Seagate have both revealed that they’ve already sold “pretty much” all of their mechanical drive stock that was allocated for 2026.
Many consumer electronics manufacturers 'will go bankrupt or exit product lines' by the end of 2026 due to the AI memory crisis, Phison CEO reportedly says This mess is going to get a lot worse before it gets better. Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team. "If NVIDIA's Vera Rubin ships tens of millions of units, each requiring over 20TB of SSD, it will consume approximately 20% of last year's global NAND production capacity (excluding subsequent data storage)," is how 駿HaYaO summarises Pua Khein-Seng's comments. China's contribution is limited: the new capacity will only account for 3-5% of the global total in the initial stage, which is not enough to fill the 10-20% gap; China's domestic demand is huge, so there will be no outflow of cheap goods." 駿HaYaO also implies that one of the possible upsides to all this is sustainability.
Sega pays tribute to home console designer Hideki Sato: "His contributions had a significant and lasting impact on the entire gaming industry" "We will always remember his contributions to our company" Sega has paid tribute to Hideki Sato, the designer of most Sega home consoles, who died last week. The company said his contributions "had a significant and lasting impact on the entire gaming industry," and noted that his "leadership helped lay the foundation of Sega." News of Sato's death broke over the weekend after Sega history zine Beep21 claimed he died on February 13. As tributes poured in, Sega – at which Sato worked from 1971 to 2008 – announced it was "deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Hideki Sato, who served as President of Sega from 2001 to 2003." "Sega would like to offer its condolences to his family and friends. Sato was instrumental in the development of iconic home consoles, including the SG-1000, SC-3000, Mega Drive/Sega Genesis, Sega Saturn, and Dreamcast," the company wrote in a statement posted to X/Twitter.
In honor of Sega Genesis designer Hideki Sato, I spent the weekend with an original Mega Drive, and I'd urge you to do the same A tribute to Sega's legendary console designer. RGB scart cable | $9.99 at Amazon OSSC upscaler | $111.99 at Amazon Hyperkin HDMI | $29.99 at Amazon Sega's approach to output really makes a difference when using a Genesis in 2026. For some of you, using the Switch Expansion Pack to play some of the console's standout releases will make more sense, while some of you might have even already picked up something like the Anbernic RG ARC-D for its extremely authentic controls ($79.99 at Amazon, FYI). I could go on at length about how I prefer the sounds and rougher graphics of the Mega Drive / Genesis in Sega versions of games compared to the SNES (looking at you, Disney's Aladdin), or how I'll always pick the 6-button Mega Drive controller over Nintendo's gamepad (Retro-bit's wireless version is a great alternative for $35.99, but the Genesis design has recently changed).
Sony reportedly mulling PS6 delay while Nintendo eyes Switch 2 price hike as AI-driven RAM shortages continue News follows Steam Machine delay. Sony is reportedly looking to push back the launch of PlayStation 6 in response to memory shortages caused by tech giants' continuing AI expansion drive, while Nintendo is said to be considering a price hike for Switch 2. Memory shortages and soaring prices have made headlines in recent times, both issues arising as tech companies continue their push into AI. Substantial amounts of RAM are required to power AI platforms, so as the likes of Amazon, Microsoft, Google, and Meta continue to throw money at AI data centres in order to stay competitive, the demand for RAM has increased dramatically.

Touting 16 GB of DDR4 and a 512 GB SSD, its otherwise solid entry-level hardware is stymied by a high price, that's only been amplified by those pesky datacenters hoovering up NAND flash left right and centre. For - Slim form factor - Good selection of ports - Relatively affordable… relatively Against - DDR4 sucks - GPU selection is just okay - Many, many different SKUs PC Gamer's got your back This is the Nitro V 15, a modern entry-level gaming laptop from Acer. I mean It doesn't quite manage to hit that $1,000 mark, at least not in the US, where it retails at $1,079 (it slides under at £925 in the UK), but there is at least some justification as to why these hardware concessions are there. Compared to something like Gigabyte's Gaming A16 with its (admittedly 32 GB of) DDR5 clocked at 5,200 MT/s, and even with the same processor, percentage change is around 66% by comparison.
