Valve feels like one of the only companies left actually trying to harness this technology for the benefit of gamers, but due to the RAM and storage crisis, it's had to price it above $1,000/£800. The Quest 3 now sits at $599, but the Steam Frame's most affordable configuration costs $1,049 / £889. If you opt for the 1TB model, you're talking $1,089 / £1,299, and although you get Half-Life: Alyx included in all of those costs, it's a dramatically more substantial price tag than the mainstream option that's been on the shelves for three years.

Microsoft's latest console exclusive, Gears of War: E-Day , launched this week, and now we've gotten the first glimpse at how the game is performing commercially. Rhys Elliott of Alinea Analytics released a report that said the game has sold about 230,000 copies so far, with Steam sales accounting for 168,000 and Xbox (across console and PC) making up the other 62,000. There is more nuance there, too, as Elliott said that 722,000 of the 1.7 million people who played E-Day through Game Pass bought the $30 Premium upgrade, which got them in early and awarded them with extra content. Including the 722,000 upgrades, nearly 950,000 people actually paid something for E-Day." Elliott concluded that these are "soft numbers" at a time "when Xbox badly needs revenue wins." In this environment, Elliott said E-Day's $70 edition is "functionally dead on Xbox." "In a world without day-one Game Pass, many of these folks would have bought E-Day at $70.
Following a report that Xbox secured exclusive streaming rights to Grand Theft Auto 6, possibly letting PC players stream it without owning a console, Xbox has clarified that this isn’t the case. The Verge’s Tom Warren reported on October 6 that Xbox CEO Asha Sharma told employees that Microsoft plans to do something “no other platform holder is doing” around GTA 6, which sources said is Xbox obtaining exclusive streaming rights to the game. Warren speculated that this deal would also allow PC players to play GTA 6 without owning an Xbox Series X|S or PS5, streaming it through the Xbox Cloud Gaming Service instead. There’s no official word on when Grand Theft Auto 6 might arrive on PC, but if it follows the trend set by GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, don’t expect it any earlier than November 2027.
Xbox has reportedly secured exclusive streaming rights to GTA 6, possibly making the game playable on PC at launch via the cloud. The Verge has reported that Xbox will be the exclusive place to stream GTA 6 via the cloud at launch, though that doesn't mean you will need an Xbox console. Xbox offers access to its cloud streaming service on a multitude of devices, including PC, smart TVs, and mobile devices. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma reportedly told employees during a recent town hall meeting that the company was planning to do something related to GTA 6 that "no other platform holder is doing." The deal will reportedly begin with the game's release in November, though it's unclear how long it will be in place.
Microsoft agreed to several big changes to appease regulators in its effort to get the blockbuster $75.4 billion deal to buy Activision Blizzard approved, including tweaks to its cloud-gaming projects. Now, more than a year later, we're still learning more about this, including a new claim from The New York Times that Microsoft canceled plans for a new Xbox controller "devoted to cloud gaming." A spokesperson for Microsoft denied that the controller concept was abandoned due to the regulatory process, but did not provide a reason. Microsoft never formally announced or unveiled any controller for cloud gaming, but an image of it leaked this year, prompting raised eyebrows for its ... Microsoft cut deals with a variety of companies--including Ubisoft , Nware , EE, Boosteroid , Ubitus , and Nvidia --to help mitigate concerns from the UK's Competition & Markets Authority (CMA) that Microsoft might give preferential treatment to its own cloud gaming networks.

A widow whose late husband helped build software for Roblox is suing a male escort she claims exploited her grief and medical vulnerability before persuading her to transfer nearly $6 million through an alleged $10 million contract buyout. Marianne Flippo, 49, filed the lawsuit against Greggory Blaine Starr, 38, in Manhattan Supreme Court on September 14. She is seeking the return of $5.95 million, legal fees and an order preventing Starr from spending more of her money, according to court filings. Bank records cited by Fortune allegedly show Starr moved $5,719,010.37 into an account under his sole control within weeks.
The new military shooter hotness is here in the form of Wardogs, from developer Bulkhead. Playing similarly to a popular Arma 3 mod, it puts an intense spin on King of the Hill, and after several successful betas, it has just entered early access. I wouldn't advise jumping in right now, though, because there's a substantial queue. Joe Brammer, the CEO of Bulkhead, posted on Twitter yesterday that over 135,000 players had been let into the FPS thus far.

A former Old School RuneScape developer has been sentenced after hacking into players’ accounts and selling their virtual gold on the black market for more than $400,000. A federal judge has dismissed an Iowa man’s “absurd” $341,000 lawsuit against Nintendo and The Pokemon Company after he was denied “Pokemon Professor” certification. Kyle Owens, 34, filed the lawsuit in May, alleging that the companies violated federal antitrust laws by preventing him from becoming an official Pokemon Professor. Owens wanted the court to award him at least $341,000 in damages, grant him certification, restore his access to official tools and allow him to host sanctioned Pokemon events. According to Iowa Capital Dispatch, Strand described the lawsuit as a “completely frivolous waste of the court’s time and resources.” Judge calls $341K Pokemon claim “outright absurd” Owens claimed he scored 100% on the Pokemon Professor exam in March 2024, but certification was still dependent on completing a background check.
The alleged GTA 6 leaker has released two further gameplay videos despite Rockstar owner Take-Two's subpoenas requesting identifying information from Microsoft and Discord. The ‘CyberLeek’ person or group released two new videos today, August 22, one showing more supercar gameplay and an armed robbery, the other strip club gameplay. Meanwhile, Take-Two issued Github with a DMCA takedown notice on Wednesday, August 19, saying “the infringer is sharing the stolen content from our copyright.” The takedown notice added: “The entire repository must be completely disabled, there are no remedies to rectify this clear case of infringement.” Via the subpoenas, Take-Two wants to identify those responsible for posting the leaks on Github, as well as “all internal Microsoft business records and investigative records associated with Microsoft’s internal investigation of the ‘cyberleek’ persona sufficient to identify the user(s), person(s) and/or entity/ies associated with that persona.” The United States District Court for the Southern District of New York granted the Microsoft subpoena on August 21. Last night, Xbox Chief Technical Officer Scott Van Vliet tweeted to address the situation, saying: "We are working closely with Take-Two and Rockstar Games to support efforts to protect creative works and intellectual property." Discord told Variety: “Discord sometimes receives subpoenas related to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA).
A Delaware inmate who sought more than $100,000 over allegedly inadequate medical care agreed to settle his case for an Xbox, two controllers, and a bottom bunk. Devin Coleman, who is serving 29 years, filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against officials and medical workers at James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in Smyrna, Delaware. According to Department of Corrections spokesman Jason Miller, “Incarcerated individuals in state prison facilities have the ability to purchase modified Xbox devices through commissary with their own funds for recreational purposes.” “Internet and Wi-Fi access is disabled on these modified devices and the devices come pre-loaded with games selected by the purchaser.” The story took another turn when the console was confiscated by prison officials after they found “suspicious content” on the device despite it not having an internet connection.
No, The Duskbloods isn't releasing on 24th September, according to Nintendo Invalidated. Nintendo has denied that The Duskbloods will be releasing on the 24th September, after the date was included in an early preview of the game. This date was featured at the end of The Guardian's preview coverage, written as part of a trip to Tokyo to play it in advance of this weekend's upcoming network test. Eurogamer contacted Nintendo to confirm the validity of this date, and received this response from an official spokesperson from Nintendo: "The release date is inaccurate because there is no information regarding [the] release date of the Duskbloods." This date-reveal comes one day before a closed network test, which members of the public were able to sign up for following a Nintendo Direct trailer last month.
Pokemon card scalpers are generally regarded as the worst part of the hobby, and in Japan, The Pokemon Company is taking steps to address the problem. As part of its crackdown to create a safe shopping environment, The Pokemon Company is introducing a facial recognition system for adult shoppers and children of a certain age. According to its website , this will be a mandatory measure for gaining access to a Pokemon Card Store, and customers may only enter a shop once per day. In January, thieves armed with guns and hammers stormed a newly opened Pokemon store and stole over $100,000 worth of collectibles.
Pokemon is introducing mandatory facial-recognition checks at five temporary Pokemon Card Stores in Japan, requiring shoppers to pass a scan before entering or collecting a queue ticket. The system will be used at pop-up locations running from July 31 to Aug. 16 at AEON Mall Natori, Chofu PARCO, AEON Mall Higashiura, AEON Mall Hiroshima Fuchu, and AEON Mall Chikushino. All five stores are opening to celebrate the launch of the Pokemon TCG Mega expansion Storm Emerald.
Meccha Chameleon players have been warned to update the game and avoid its original Discord server after malicious Steam Workshop maps infected PCs and helped attackers compromise a developer account. The security issue was first detailed by independent researcher Feint, who investigated reports of command prompt windows appearing as players loaded custom Meccha Chameleon maps. Earlier this year, Infold invited me to attend Love and Deepspace's second anniversary event. At this point, I had been playing the game on and off for about a year. I was juggling questionable relationships with both Zayne, the main character's physician, and Sylus, the violent leader of a crime syndicate. According to Chinese critics, this could be perceived as a reference to Unit 731 , a unit of the Imperial Japanese Army that conducted biological and chemical warfare on Chinese civilians during World War II.
