More than four years after New Delhi banned Free Fire over national security concerns, Garena has brought the popular battle royale game back to India with a localized version. On Wednesday, Garena launched the localized version, called Free Fire India, as a stand-alone game available on Android and iOS. Mobile game downloads in the country grew 14.2% quarter-over-quarter to 2 billion in Q2, while revenue rose 3.7% to more than $106 million, per Sensor Tower. Garena’s Free Fire MAX has also maintained a presence in India’s esports scene, with Indian teams including S8UL Esports, Apex Gaming, and Total Gaming competing at the Esports World Cup 2026.

Nevertheless, we're talking about a console around the same size as a Nintendo Switch that runs physical cartridges in the year 2026, and I know many of you would take that over whatever Xbox Project Helix will do for upwards of $1,800. The main issue I have is that if Fortune's report that the next-gen console could cost "between $1,200 and $1,800" holds true, then many players won't even have a next generation to consider. You could instead opt for the far cheaper Super Pocket since it will run all the same games for $69.99, or you could even get a bit fancy and invest in an Evercade Alpha, a bartop arcade machine that works as its own standalone console (a bit like a modern-day Vectrex).
TP-Link says it will start making Wi-Fi 8 routers in the US, dodging government soft ban in one easy step Earlier this year, the FCC implemented a kind of soft ban on foreign-made routers, declaring that they must receive special approval to be sold in the US. This seems to have put enough pressure on TP-Link to make a big change, as the company has said it intends to bring its router production to the US. The Chinese company has signed a letter of intent (LOI) with electronics manufacturer Key Tronic, which will support router assembly in Mississippi. TP-Link CEO Jeffrey Chao said, "This LOI with Key Tronic demonstrates our firm commitment to expanding domestic advanced manufacturing, and establishing America as our base for delivering secure, reliable connectivity solutions to households and businesses around the world." Key Tronic CEO Brett Larsen explained, "Our production footprint will give TP-Link a strong domestic foundation, and our experience in high-reliability electronics manufacturing will help support the company’s new generation of Wi-Fi 8 technologies." Yes, Wi-Fi 8 is here, and it primarily focuses on reliability by reducing interference and latency, for instance.

'Your washing machine is subject to more safety rules than AI' says Microsoft president When the call for external regulation is coming from inside AI's house, you know it's serious. Microsoft president Brad Smith claims that AI is currently less regulated than the food we eat and the utilities we rely on. "Right now, your washing machine is subject to more safety rules than AI," Smith said, "Every carton of milk that you see in the grocery store is subject to safety rules and inspection." Smith isn't just talking about the US either, calling for safety rules to be put in place globally. Smith also advocated for "outside evaluators" to test AI products before release, and a "safety brake" for autonomous systems, describing AI as both a "tool and a weapon." These comments run counter to the sentiment of the US administration; President Trump's current strategy demonstrates little desire to pump the brakes, instead hoping to chart 'a decisive course to cement US dominance in artificial intelligence.' Last month, the US president issued an executive order that renames 'Artificial Intelligence' to 'Super Intelligence.' Shortly before that, Trump Media partnered with AI search engine Perplexity to create Truth Search AI, in a bid to "end Big Tech's assault on free speech." All of that is to say, Trump appears to still be all-in on AI.
The European Commission is taking action against nine video game companies over their digital currency and pricing of in-game items with the goal of protecting players’ rights. Launched on September 29, 2026, these actions are a follow-up to the Consumer Protection Cooperation Network’s Key Principles on in-game virtual currencies, which are a set of guidelines released in March 2025 that “promote transparency and fairness” for in-game currency and transactions. These Key Principles guidelines were reached after the CPC Network had extensive discussions with game studios and publishers — but despite these talks, it found indications that a “high number of video game companies” hadn’t made any substantive changes to their games as a result of its public guidance, “nor as a result of the extensive talks between the CPC Network and the gaming industry that have taken place over the course of the past years.” The CPC Network name-dropped these companies in a joint statement with the European Commission on September 30, publicly asking that they bring their in-game currency and transaction systems in line with their guidelines. These companies include Activision Blizzard UK, Mojang AB, Riot Games Limited, Supercell Oy, and Ubisoft EMEA SAS.
To celebrate September 30, the day the cop inside of Leon Kennedy died, here's my most traumatic encounters in Resident Evil This is in honour of the day Leon legally became a sad boy. Today's basically a national holiday for Resident Evil fans. September 30 marks 28 years since the day the cop inside Leon S Kennedy died, the day he'll never forget; when Raccoon City was wiped out by Umbrella's classic mishandling of bioweapons in Resident Evil 2. So to celebrate the day that made Leon S Kennedy who he is, I've collated all the most traumatic experiences I've had in Resident Evil games: The Baby The Baby from Resident Evil Village is probably my most vivid traumatic memory of a Resident Evil game.

US Senate launches investigation into Roblox: 'Children on your platform are hurting. It looks like another bad day for Roblox: The US Senate Judiciary Committee Subcommittee on Crime and Counterterrorism has launched an investigation into child safety on the platform, saying the company "appears to prioritize revenue and engagement metrics over the safety and well-being of our children." A letter (via Kotaku) sent to Roblox CEO David Baszucki by subcommittee chairman Josh Hawley and ranking member Dick Durbin says that while Roblox has repeatedly claimed that it is a safe platform for children, "the public record raises serious questions about this promise." "Over the past decade, police have arrested numerous individuals for committing serious acts of violence and harm against children they met via Roblox, including grooming, sexual abuse, kidnapping, rape, and even murder," the letter reads. "Congress will not look the other way." Roblox insists that it too is not looking away: The company says the uptick in reports of suspected child sexual exploitation to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children cited in the latter—65,381 in 2025, more than double the number of 2024—simply reflects the company's ongoing effort to improve its systems and the safety of its users. US Senators Josh Hawley and Dick Durbin have announced that Roblox will be the subject of a congressional investigation amid claims that the gaming platform is a threat to child safety. "You trumpet Roblox as a safe digital playground for children as young as five," the pair wrote in an open letter. Congress will not look the other way." Roblox Hawley (a Republican from Missouri) and Durbin (a Democrat from Illinois) added that Roblox reported 65,381 instances of suspected child sexual exploitation to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children in 2025, more than doubling what it reported in 2024. Earlier this year, Roblox Corporation agreed to pay more than $12 million to the state of Nevada as part of a move to create a safer environment for its young users, but other regions, such as the United Kingdom, have suggested drastic solutions to protect children online.
