Last week I made a big song and dance about JB Hi-Fi offering the Nintendo Switch 2 for AU$699, down from AU$769. Yep, Amazon is currently selling the Nintendo Switch 2 for AU$699, down from AU$769. But with that AU$69 you're saving, you could take a chunk off the RRP of the Ocarina of Time remake (which Amazon is selling for AU$108. Though now that I mention it, there are a handful of decent deals happening on Amazon at the moment: Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, which came out last week, is going for AU$84 (down from AU$89.95), Star Fox for AU$69 (down from AU$74) and Metroid Prime 4 for AU$79 (down from AU$89.95).

Video games have given us plenty of ways to traverse huge open worlds, but none have felt quite as oddly exhilarating as manipulating gravity in Control Resonant’s twisted version of New York City. It’s a game that lets you flip, twist, and fly through the air while exploring settings that look ripped out of Inception. It’s as if you mashed up the meta storytelling of House of Leaves with the inventive platforming of Super Mario Galaxy and somehow turned it into a coherent experience. That strange combination is just the latest example of developer Remedy making games like nobody else out there.
Whenever a Nintendo game gets a splashy reveal in a Direct, my immediate hype takes on a few forms. I’ll replay the trailer at least once, then I’ll start going frame by frame. I scour Nintendo’s websites for concrete information, then I read up on Reddit comments and theories to see what other people noticed that I might have missed. Fast forward to Metroid Prime 4 in 2025, which shortens that vanity card to “Nintendo Presents,” as if it’s ashamed to acknowledge its Austin-based affiliate studio.

As promised, Nintendo has marked down a wide variety of Switch games and accessories at Amazon, Best Buy, and Walmart, as well as its own digital storefront. Its “Customer Appreciation” sale is happening because of tariff-related refunds it received from the US government, and it ends on September 26th at 8:59 PM PT. The most notable inclusions include the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe digital bundle with the Booster Course pass for just under $60 (Amazon, Nintendo), The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom for $49 (Amazon, Nintendo, Best Buy), and Animal Crossing: New Horizons with the DLC for $60 (Nintendo). The Switch 2 Editions aren’t currently discounted, but upgrade packs are fairly affordable, costing $9.99 for the Tears of the Kingdom (Amazon) or $4.99 for Animal Crossing: New Horizons (Amazon).
The announcement of Metroid Ravenous has caused Metroid Dread to shoot back to the top of the Nintendo eShop charts almost exactly five years after it was released Last week's Nintendo Direct was considered somewhat disappointing for many, mostly due to the lack of first-party games announced for the Switch 2 as it heads into 2026. However, one thing everyone is agreed on is that Metroid Ravenous looks absolutely sick. Metroid Dread revived the series back in 2021, and as it turned out, completely overshadowed Metroid Prime 4, which has pretty much come and gone despite how long we were all waiting on it. As spotted by GoNintendo, the hype for the next Metroid – alongside Nintendo's "we aren't giving you tariff refunds" sale – have caused Samus' latest 2D adventure to shoot straight to the top of the Nintendo eShop in the US ahead of the likes of Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, Super Mario Party Jamboree and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered (September 29, 2026) After announcing The Witcher 4, which is reportedly targeting a 2028 release, CD Projekt Red also announced a massive remaster of its 2015 masterpiece, The Witcher 3. Octopath Traveler I & II - Switch 2 Editions (October 1, 2026) Following the release of Octopath Traveler 0, Square Enix is releasing fresh Switch 2 editions of the original two games that defined the HD-2D style. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition (December 3, 2026) In the lead-up to Xenoblade Genesis, an entirely new game in DADSS’s iconic RPG series, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is getting the Switch 2 edition treatment. Here are some more games we know are on the way, including the highly-anticipated 10th generation of Pokémon: - Turok Origins - Fall 2026 - The Eternal Life of Goldman - 2026 - Witchbrook - 2026 - The Duskbloods- 2026 - Valheim - 2026 - Stellar Blade - 2026 - Kirby and the World Beyond - Spring 2027 - Mega Man: Dual Override - Spring 2027 - Pokémon Winds - 2027 - Pokémon Waves - 2027 - Xenoblade Genesis - 2027 - Kingdom Hearts IV - Late 2027 - LEGO Skylines - 2027 - Resident Evil Veronica - 2027 - Metal Slug Ultimate Collection - 2027 - Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Royal Edition - 2027 - Haunted Chocolatier - TBA - Persona 6 - TBA Blythe (she/her) is an Audience Development Coordinator at IGN who spends way too much time in character customization screens and tracking down collectibles.
Metroid Dread developer MercurySteam has seemingly confirmed that it is the developer behind Metroid Ravenous. Nintendo has generally been a bit peculiar compared to most major publishers for as long as it has existed. But one of the strangest things the company has done as of late is its complete reluctance to announce who is actually developing its games. You'll typically have to wait until the game releases or, at the very least, reviews release to find out what studio is behind the title; for example, Xenoblade developer Monolith Soft may be behind the upcoming The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake.
Today's September 2026 Nintendo Direct has come and gone, and so has any chance of seeing the next 3D Mario, The Duskbloods, and more highly anticipated games that ended up being no-shows. Metroid Ravenous is bringing Samus back for another 2D adventure, Kirby and the World Beyond is going 3D in 2027, and Mario Kart World is finally getting some much-needed love with a new update. The Mario Strikers and Luigi's Mansion series developer was officially acquired by Nintendo in 2021, but aside from assisting with the development of 2025's Metroid Prime 4, the studio's last headlining release was 2022's Mario Strikers: Battle League. Another Nintendo Direct came and went without mention of a new Mario game, ending the franchise's 40th anniversary year not with a bang, but with a resounding "huh?" Despite rumors and murmurs from noted leakers , there was no reveal of a 3D Mario game at the September 2026 Nintendo Direct . In fact, the only mention of Nintendo's mascot was a free update to Mario Kart World, which allows you to play SNES courses already in the Free Roam map in Versus mode. Super Mario 64 was a launch title for the Nintendo 64, and Sunshine, Galaxy, 3D Land, and Odyssey all released within a year of their respective platforms' lifecycles. (Wii U title Super Mario 3D World launched a year and four days after the console, but that's close enough.) https://twitter.com/NintendoAmerica/status/2097696070990016647?s=20 Meanwhile, there hasn't even been a hint of a 3D Mario game for Switch 2.
On Tuesday, the company hosted a showcase all about the Legend of Zelda franchise, including footage and a November 5th release date for the Switch 2 Ocarina of Time remake. On Wednesday, the company aired a new Nintendo Direct, which spotlighted Switch 2 games mostly “launching this winter” over the course of about 45 minutes. - Mario Kart World gets a new update later today. The free update adds 10 courses based on ones from the original Super Mario Kart, including Choco Island 1, Vanilla Lake 1, and Ghost Valley 1. - Return to Resident Evil remakes.Resident Evil 2: Deluxe Edition, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4: Gold Edition are all coming to Switch 2 on October 16th.

New Super Smash Bros and Nintendogs games are on the way, according to prominent Nintendo leaker Fur real? A prominent Nintendo leaker has spilled even more information about the console maker's potential plans, which include the long-awaited return of Nintendogs and an all-new Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, apparently.) The scoop comes from the ever-enigmatic Malo932, who first leaked that the company was preparing two back-to-back Nintendo Directs well before the Big N had the chance to tell us itself. Another 2D Metroid game, a new Wario Land, a Star Fox "adventure" and whatever shape the next 3D Mario takes will supposedly launch in 2027, as well.
Plus Nintendogs, Metroid, 3D Mario, and more. So called leakers have to prove themselves before folks start taking them seriously, but a YouTube user by the name of 'malo392' is causing quite a stir in the community. As reported by VGC , malo392 correctly predicted the existence of both Nintendo Directs this week in a YouTube comment, a full three days before the official announcement was made.
Nintendo is hosting two Directs in the coming days, and it’s pretty much all I’ve been thinking about since the announcement. On Tuesday, September 8, it’s The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct, followed by a more general Nintendo Direct on Wednesday, September 9. Twilight Princess on Nintendo Switch Online Speaking of NSO, it bothers me more than it should that The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is the only 3D Zelda game that’s not playable in some form on Switch 2. Ultimate noticeably hasn’t received a Switch 2 performance patch like Super Mario Odyssey, the open-world Zeldas, and plenty of other best-selling Switch 1 games, and combined with the fact that a new Smash game almost always hits within the first two years of a new Nintendo console, it feels like a prime candidate for a Switch 2 Edition.” And, after spending the last year declaring it to be too soon for 3D Mario in the wake of Donkey Kong Bananza – another 3D mascot platformer from much of the same team as 3D Mario – I now think we’re entering the window where we could see the plumber show up any time.
The original Metroid and Castlevania both turn 40 years old this fall. As the two series most responsible for creating the “metroidvania,” we’re taking this occasion to take a comprehensive view of the popular genre. When we talk about something, we should talk about it in ways people can understand. (Yes, Vampire Killer and Simon's Quest both had Metroid-y elements, but the former wasn't open-ended enough and the latter was too open-ended and obtuse; it wasn't until Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, over a decade later, that Castlevania really jumped on board the 'Troid train.) Castlevania didn't adopt search-action mechanics until Symphony of the Night So either you have no idea what "Metroidvania" means, or you know that it's not even that accurate a term, and in either case, the solution is simple: Stop using it.
