Few movies can truly say they hit the ground running, but Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil is among them. And that’s a good thing, because after so many Resident Evil movies, every new one needs a running start to have a chance of making it. We can’t talk about a Resident Evil movie without doing a little bit of table-setting first, though. Resident Evil debuted on PlayStation in 1996 and coined the name for an emerging game genre: Survival Horror. Since then, Paul W.S.

Light No Fire, the next massive survival game from Hello Games, makes a rare appearance in the overview for No Man's Sky's Cosmos update, which is out today, September 9. Cosmos introduces sweeping changes and additions to space itself, from custom space stations to resource-rich "space hulks." It also adds player alliances that can fit thousands of allied players and stations across the stars. The bones of some of these features will carry over to Light No Fire, it seems. Toward the end of the trailer, studio boss Sean Murray says "all of this is tech we get to test now, refine, and hopefully players will also experience on our other game, Light No Fire." Latest Videos FromGamesRadar+ Some old Light No Fire footage played in the background shows a gathering of humanoid rabbit warriors, a brief shot of a dragon mount, and a very bemused ogre.

Sony clarifies PlayStation disc production is dropping by 10 percent in 2028, not to 10 percent Spin doctors. Sony has pushed back on a wave of reports suggesting PlayStation disc manufacturing is about to be gutted by 90 percent after comments from a Sony DADC executive were allegedly misunderstood. According to Game, which went directly to Sony Digital Audio Disc Corporation (DADC) for clarity, output is actually expected to dip by 10 percent in 2028, not to 10 percent. "To clarify and avoid any misleading information: in that statement Dietmar anticipated an overall product volume decline by 10 percent, not a decline down to 10 percent," a Sony DADC spokesperson told Game, referring to comments made by DADC chief Dietmar Tanzer to an Austrian broadcaster in July.
Despite Sony’s double State of Play this week being a little bit of a dud — though did you catch the hard-as-hell new Resident Evil clip at the very beginning? We got a new look at Street Fighter and a bunch more trailers ahead of Venice and Toronto Film Festivals for movies that are already catching Oscar buzz, a holdover from gamescom, and an indie game that caught my attention at the Tribeca Festival this past summer. Inside Tencent's long-term strategy: live service, AI tools, and evergreen titles "I think people should just not be afraid of AI" Many column inches have been spent questioning the wisdom of focusing on live-service. Sony gambled and lost, as did many other companies chasing the dream of steady recurring revenues, while firms like Capcom that stuck to the traditional path have emerged relatively unscathed. That includes Miniclip, Sumo Digital, Funcom, Fat Shark, Sharkmob, 10 Chambers, and Stunlock Studios in Europe, as well as Digital Extremes in North America and Grinding Gear Games in New Zealand. Zach Cregger's Resident Evil movie has been (unfairly) divisive for its creative deviations from Resident Evil canon, and for telling a Resident Evil story without fan-favorite characters like Leon S. Early tracking (h/t IGN) has put Resident Evil's opening weekend figure at some $40-50 million in the US. Even at the lower end of predictions, that's far higher than any movie in the Milla Jovovich-starring series, the biggest of which, Resident Evil: Afterlife, opened to $26.6 million in 2010. The most recent Resident Evil movie, Welcome to Raccoon City, opened to just over $5 million in November 2021.
Ridley Scott says he made the best Alien movie... "I did the best [Alien] by far. End of the fucking story," Scott told Brut. James Cameron taking over for the also-excellent Aliens in 1986, with David Fincher directing 1972's also-excellent Alien 3.
It’s been a huge week for trailers, specifically for games (though the entertainment front hardly took the week off). Of course, the big headline from this week is GTA 6. (Did your Netflix break when you tried to log on to watch the Extended Look right when it dropped?) But gamescom has also been busy shelling out one trailer after another since Tuesday’s Opening Night Live. #TheHistoryofConcrete pic.twitter.com/Qp2lDBm8d4 — Magnolia Pictures (@MagnoliaPics) August 27, 2026 Were you a fan of the HBO show How To With John Wilson a couple years back?
Alien Isolation 2 stars a new protagonist named Blake. Creative Assembly has been clear about this all summer, but it's only now that I'm letting it sink in. Since I first played a demo of the survival-horror game at Summer Game Fest's Play Days this past June, I've been holding onto a theory that Blake's role in the story is a bait-and-switch--that in short order Blake would be impaled by the Xenomorph and Amanda Ripley, star of the first game, would show up as the real playable character. For what it's worth, I had this same theory about Red Dead Redemption 2's Arthur Morgan back in 2018, and that wasn't exactly true--though I guess it was eventually sort of true.
GTA 6's driving and car-jacking will be "more challenging", Rockstar says, amid a seemingly big push for realism Planned theft, no autopilot. Two of the Grand Theft Auto series' most prominent, interweaving systems - stealing cars and driving them - are set to get a major change in Grand Theft Auto 6, as developer Rockstar has said the pick-up-and-play systems are now going to be "more challenging" than they've been before. The news comes via an interview Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson held with IGN, published alongside GTA 6's big Netflix reveal showcase this evening. Combined with the new role-playing like systems for your weight and health, the relationship mechanic, and the more elaborate Wanted and Criminal Profile systems, this seems like a shift towards the Red Dead Redemption 2-style ultra realism that was perhaps a little more "Marmite" amongst players.
Ridley Scott has confirmed he isn't done with the Alien franchise, as he's developing a sequel to Alien: Covenant. When speaking with the LA Times, Scott confirmed he is still developing a sequel to Alien: Covenant, one that would follow Michael Fassbender's character, David. Scott revealed that the film would see David creating a “brave new world for himself" and deal with AI going awry. He just released The Dog Stars, starring Jacob Elordi (which IGN gave a 5), and has a Treasure Planet adaptation with Hugh Jackman set to begin filming in November, a Bee Gees project at Paramount, and a variety of original films in different stages of development.
It's been a busy few weeks for Rockstar and Take-Two following a series of leaked GTA 6 gameplay videos and images. Beginning in mid-August 2026, an anonymous individual or group calling itself CyberLeek began publishing unreleased Grand Theft Auto 6 material. CyberLeek's manifesto Accompanying the first leak were some "commandments" from CyberLeek, including: Thou Shalt Not Sell Digital Preorders Thou Shalt Not Sell Fake Single-Player DLC Thou Shalt Preserve Single-Player Content CyberLeek's clearest complaint is around digital preorders. It'll set those interested back a 400 XMR (Monero) fee, which currently converts to just shy of $165,450.
