Empulse and Splitgate: Arena Reloaded are officially over as 1047 Games says it's probably done making arena shooters The studio will remain operational, but its next game "may look very different" from what it's done before. Just two months after the release of the PvP arena shooter Empulse, 1047 Games is halting work on the game and its predecessor, Splitgate: Arena Reloaded, saying that neither is making enough money to support their operating costs. The studio itself will remain but its "focus is changing," and its next game "may look very different from what people expect." The original Splitgate: Arena Warfare was something of a phenom when it debuted in 2019, which was a blessing and a curse: The crossplay beta test was a mess because the game was so popular, and its final release was delayed so 1047 could revamp its server infrastructure. The money flowed in and 1047 co-founder and CEO Ian Proulx mused about being the next Riot Games, but the wheels came off with Splitgate 2; its follow-up, Empulse, showed early promise but failed to cause much of a stir, and just a month after that game's release, the company laid off a number of employees.
"The things that we based our assumptions on have changed fundamentally": Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani on the games industry's rapid transformation The executive says that long development times, the rise of Asian developers, and the advent of new tech like AI make predicting the future hard, but indies are well positioned for success The CEO of Helldivers 2 maker Arrowhead Game Studios, Shams Jorjani, has said that the games industry is in a "transitional phase at the moment". Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz at Gamescom, the executive said the strategies that worked for developers and publishers through the 2010s are not "working anymore". [Steam Replay 2025 showed that 44% of user playtime was on titles between one and seven years old] People scream for new games and IPs, but they don't actually buy them. That will allow us to know that we're able to hit that specific group, and we should do this now, early into development rather than waiting two years after getting broad user tests." He concludes: "But it requires you to let go of that old playbook of playing your cards close to the chest for years, and then dazzle and razzle." Some games just aren't long for this world, and that’s exactly the case with the Portal-like and Halo-like shooter Splitgate: Arena Reloaded , which is getting put on a form of life support starting in early September. Developer 1047 Games took to X on August 26 to announce the news. At the same time, the team's other game, the 6v6 Titanfall-like movement shooter Empulse , will also no longer receive any more updates. Originally released as Splitgate 2 before re-entering a beta form in June 2025 and returning as Splitgate: Arena Reloaded in December 2025, the game was giving Portal -like mechanics, Halo -esque shooting, and Quake -like movement in a very fast-paced environment.
1047 Games ends active development on Empulse and Splitgate: Arena Reloaded, says it's moving away from live service shooters Both titles move to peer-to-peer hosting from September 3 1047 Games is ending active development on Empulse and Splitgate: Arena Reloaded, moving both titles to peer-to-peer hosting as the studio signals a broader shift away from live service shooters after ten years. In a post on X earlier today, the studio said neither game is generating enough revenue to cover the ongoing cost of dedicated servers. It said it had kept covering those costs to give both titles a chance to grow, but had reached a point where doing so was "no longer sustainable." "We have loved working on these games, playing them, and building them with this community, and we wish we could continue supporting them," the studio said. Splitgate 2 released in June 2025 amid a flurry of controversy, which included a MAGA-style "Make FPS Great Again" hat and a $145 cosmetic bundle.

Things are sounding bad over at Splitgate developer 1047 Games once again. After launching Empulse last month, a wall-running, quite Titanfall -esque FPS with mechs game that James had some fun with , it appears that layoffs have taken place at the studio, marking the third round of them in the space of about a year .
Multiple employees say they've been let go in a new round of cuts.
I'm always on the lookout for new first-person shooters to sink my teeth into. For a long time, Destiny 2 was my predominant shooter of choice. I'm not the biggest fan of extraction shooters or battle royales, of which Destiny 2 is neither. It's not free-to-play (currently priced at $20, with plans to increase after early access), and there aren't any microtransactions.
Empulse is a new early-access 6v6 arena shooter for Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC, from developer 1047 Games, the team behind Splitgate and Splitgate 2. Touting itself as a spiritual successor to Titanfall 2, it features large mechs and fast-paced movement tech. While the early-access launch makes it feel more like a traditional arena shooter with mechs than Titanfall 3, this fast-paced shooter does offer a fair amount of strategy and nuance. If there are any game modes you can't stand, it's probably worth dropping 1% off the bonus XP, but otherwise select as many as you can.
Attempting to pull in some fans of Titanfall for multiplayer action, the developers of Splitgate have released EMPULSE into Early Access. Read the full article on GamingOnLinux .
Разработчики Splitgate после неудачного старта и перезапуска арена-шутера выпустили следующую игру — стрелялку с паркуром и мехами Empulse.
Empulse developers 1047 Games are known first for their Splitgate series of Portal-inspired arena shooters, and perhaps known second for a daft red hat. At last year’s Summer Game Fest, CEO and co-founder Ian Proulx took to the stage to pitch Splitgate 2 in an awkwardly tone-deaf 'Make FPS Great Again' cap, the sartorial power and reactionary tubthumping of which proved ineffective upon the game’s fortunes , even after Proulx’s apology . Empulse, which launches into early access today (following an introductory Steam Next Fest demo ), thus has a fair amount riding on it. It carries both the need of 1047 to brush off Splitgate 2, baggage included, and the weight of comparison – partly self-invited – with the outstanding parkour FPS/mech combat melding of Titanfall .
If you're like us and you've been waiting ten million years for Titanfall 3 , you might be pleased to hear that we're getting a new game inspired by Respawn's classic FPS series on Xbox next week in the form of EMPULSE . This one's actually being made by the team behind Splitgate (1047 Games), and it's not a free-to-play title - it's a paid early access release for multiple platforms, arriving on Wednesday, June 24th. Better yet, it's both an Xbox Smart Delivery title and an Xbox Play Anywhere title. Read the full article on purexbox.com
