Helldivers 2 boss can "absolutely see" making a game parody of generative AI, but it would need to be "quirky" rather than "doom-laden" Also, it wouldn't be a Helldivers game Arrowhead's chief creative officer Johan Pilestedt can well imagine the Helldivers studio developing a videogame that satirises or parodies today's generative AI technology. The game in question wouldn't be a Helldivers project, however, and Pilestedt says it would need to be relatively upbeat, rather than an exercise in feverish despair. This seems like a tall order right now, at least while Tim Sweeney still has access to Twitter. "We are more concerned about the risks of moving too slowly": Epic get more specific about genAI use in Unreal Engine and Fortnite development "Yes, we are vibe-coding things" Epic Games are, dunno if you've heard, on a bit of a genAI kick at the moment. It's been tough to notice unless you listen very hard. Tim Sweeney's lips have been sealed and no reports have spewed forth. 'Yes, we are vibe-coding things': Epic confirms it's using AI tools to code Unreal Engine 6, Fortnite, and more 'We are more concerned about the risks of moving too slowly than we are about AI skepticism.' You won't catch me venturing deep into the coding mines, but even so, thinking about the comment-less form AI-assisted code can often take still gives me a stress headache. So you can imagine my reaction when Tim Sweeney recently confirmed via X, "Yes, we are now using AI tools to develop code for Unreal Engine." This is unsurprising given that, in an Unreal Engine 6 blog post back in June, Epic’s executive VP of development Marcus Wassmer wrote that the company had "opened up pretty broad usage for code generation and AI analysis across our backend, engine, and game development engineering teams." More recently, Wassmer offered a follow-up statement to This Week in Videogames, saying, "We are more concerned about the risks of moving too slowly than we are about AI skepticism." "Yes, we are vibe-coding things," Wassmer elaborates in his most recent statement, "That means our engineers are no longer writing the bulk of the code, but they are still guiding the tools to get the architectural result we want. We’re not ‘one-shotting’ the engine; we’re iterating with AI to ship features developers want and keep the engine within the memory, performance, and scalability envelopes." This all follows comments made by Sweeney earlier this week, in which he came out against Steam's AI disclosure statements, claiming that they are "just as partisan as mandatory political essays." The week before, Epic had announced an AI game jam (shortly before walking back the AI requirement), and the week before that the company said it had "vibe coded the Epic Games Launcher to be faster than the other guy." Wassmer added in his statement yesterday, "As we mentioned back at Unreal Fest in Chicago on stage and in interviews, we are definitely using AI to develop code and features for Unreal Engine. Almost all development happening right now is being done in the dev streams attached to Fortnite, [Unreal Editor for Fortnite], and UE6.” Epic is using a number of AI tools, though Wassmer specifically mentions Claude Code and Codex.

Our Verdict Modern Warfare 4 is the bar that this series should regularly aspire to, and a reminder that Call of Duty benefits when it actually tries to change. PC Gamer's got your back There is a new game titled "Call of Duty" every year, but it's not every year that Call of Duty is really back. What is it The next Call of Duty from the original creators of Call of Duty Release date October 23, 2026 Expect to pay $70/£60 Publisher Activision Blizzard Developer Infinity Ward Reviewed on RTX 5090, Ryzen 7 9800X3D 4.7 GHz, 64GB RAM Multiplayer Up to 60 players Steam Deck Unsupported Link Official site The tireless schedule of Activision's load-bearing FPS has resulted in more bad games than good as of late—Modern Warfare 3 was an expansion-sized sequel rushed out the door, Black Ops 6 was a step back for multiplayer, and its immediate followup Black Ops 7 was clocked as superfluous and uninteresting even by rain-or-shine fans. These back-to-back games, shouldered by Treyarch, Sledgehammer, and Raven, had cracks and compromises that suggested the Call of Duty machine just can't keep up with both "good" and "fast" anymore.
Electronic Arts is developing an American football experience unlike anything it's made before, the company said in a memo shared publicly after closing BioWare and laying off 400 people across the company . In trying to spin the news positively and toward the future, the memo's attributed writers, chief studios officer Cam Weber and chief operating officer David Tinson, spoke about several of the publishing giant's upcoming games, including something EA is calling Project Gridiron. The memo's exact phrasing calls it a "social-first open-world experience for our American Football team." In other words, EA is getting closer to something I've been writing about for years: Madden (and possibly College Football) heavily cribbing from NBA 2K's The City mode and giving football fans a virtual social space of their own. The company that gave us viral bad news like " Project $10 ," day-one DLC , and paid crafting materials in Dead Space 3 simply hasn't earned a tempered response from players, and so there won't be one.

"Players want to engage with brands, not just consume them" – Mattel on its new Game Studios arm, why it's releasing on Roblox, and what it learnt from NetEase The games industry has seen entertainment giants come and go, but Mattel's Marcus Liassides insists this new games-focused division is here for the long haul In August, Mattel announced it was forming Mattel Game Studios, a new global development organisation with a focus on making games based on its own IP. The venture sits under Mattel Digital Studios, and its creation follows the February announcement that Mattel had acquired 100% of Mattel163, a joint venture that was established by Mattel and Chinese games firm NetEase back in 2018. Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, Marcus Liassides, SVP and global head of Mattel Digital Studios, says the firm's new Games Studios arm "reflects the evolution" its digital games business has undergone. "Whether it's an existing game like Phase 10, the recently announced self-published titles like Uno Wild and an upcoming Hot Wheels experience, or partnerships on licensed games like Hot Wheels Infinite Rush and Masters of the Universe: Dragon Pearl of Destruction, we're building a broad portfolio that reflects how people engage with games today.

I spoke with DC Studios’ co-CEO and co-chairman Peter Safran this week about the status of the studio’s future projects now that Warner Bros. Our discussion ranged from DC’s newest release, Clayface, to their upcoming feature film, television and animated projects, including The Batman: Part Two, Man of Tomorrow, The People v. Gorilla Grodd, Mister Miracle, and what DC Studios co-boss and filmmaker James Gunn might direct after his Superman follow-up. I like that it's basically the movie that doesn't get made much anymore, $40 million or whatever movie.
Steam Week in Review: The curious case of Wonder Boy in Monster Land's dubious PC debut All the interesting Steam facts for the week ending October 11. Wonder Boy in Monster Land released in Japanese arcades in 1987 and for the Sega Master System the following year. Its success led to numerous ports, including to ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64 and Atari ST. Monster Lair and Monster World (but not Monster Land) used to be available as part of the SEGA Mega Drive and Genesis Classics collection, but that was removed from Steam in 2024.

Deadlock is one of the most delightful things happening in videogame art direction. Xbox Elite Series 2.
For British people who were actively playing games in the late 80s and/or retro enthusiasts looking back at that period of the industry, the name Dizzy might ring a bell (it doesn’t for me, but what can I tell you, I’m 24). A prolific platformer series starring a bipedal egg, it spanned formats from the ZX Spectrum to the NES and Game Gear, and managed sixteen(!?) releases between 1987 and 1992 - before slowing significantly past the millenium. Still, that hasn’t stopped its creators, the Oliver Twins, from trying to bring it back in the current era, and so came the announcement of another new Dizzy game during their talk at last weekend’s Play Expo in Blackpool.
Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto 6 includes a number of updates and improvements over the developer's past games, and that includes new weather systems. Rockstar's vice president of art for lighting and rendering at Rockstar, Owen Shepherd, told Game Informer that the studio has "re-engineered" the studio's weather system to "make everything more more localized and persistent." He said the goal was to make the weather in GTA 6's setting of Leonida--a stand-in for Florida--feel "dynamically solid and achieve a sense of scale" that the studio has never done before. What that means in practice is that GTA 6 will have "fully dynamic cloudscapes that roll across the map" to provide a "broad spectrum of weather" in the game. GTA 6 launches on November 19 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, priced at $80 for its standard edition and $100 for the Ultimate Edition.
GTA 6 completely "re-engineered" Rockstar's weather systems to "achieve a sense of scale we haven't felt before," adding hurricanes, rainbows and heavy rain Blown away. If you thought Red Dead Redemption 2's heavy winds and even heavier rain looked impressive, you might be happy to learn that Rockstar Games went back and "re-engineered our weather system" for GTA 6. Hurricanes, rainbows and "vertiginous cumulonimbus clouds" are all part of the upcoming open worlder. That's according to the studio's vice president of art for lighting and rendering, Owen Shepherd, who spoke to Game Informer about Grand Theft Auto 6's supposedly much-improved tech.
