Bullet-dodging PlayStation shooter Saros has welcomed a sizeable Zenith update today, which has the twin aims of making the game both more accessible for those who haven't played it (or are struggling to get into it) and more replayable for those who have. The headline additions are a quickfire boss-rush mode, a New Game Plus mode, an entire new layer of modifiers to make runs easier and harder, and - very appealingly - a slow-mo option to slow the game down. The Slow Game Speed option can be varied depending on preference and can be activated either manually or automatically.
Those years of Valve’s benign neglect of VR make the imminent release of the $1,059 Steam Frame—which starts taking reservations today—more than a little surprising. The Frame even sports fancy extras like eye-tracking for effective foveated rendering in the center of your vision and an SD card slot for expanded storage (you can also splurge for a $1,299 Frame version that upgrades the internal storage from 256GB to 1TB). But the relatively weak Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor in the Frame means the games are limited to relatively undemanding 2D titles or older 3D titles (Portal 2, anyone?) Even a game like Returnal, which can hit a “Playable” 30 fps on the aging Steam Deck, managed a paltry 9 fps in benchmarks on the Frame at 720p “Low” graphics settings. Late to the party For most players, it’s hard to recommend the $1,049 Steam Frame over a $599 Meta Quest 3 (or even a $349 Quest 3S for the more budget-minded).

In May, former Housemarque game director Harry Krueger launched Cosmic Division , a new indie studio based in downtown Helsinki. Krueger was previously game director at Housemarque, where he worked on titles including Nex Machina, Returnal, and Saros.
Housemarque is a team with a long history of creating games for a certain type of audience. The Finnish studio, which started out making smaller, arcadey titles, has grown to be among the most prestigious PlayStation first-party studios. But despite the expanding scope of its games, its philosophy about its niche genre never changed.

As big fans of the studio and the vast majority of its output, we're extremely excited to see more of Saros, which looks like a solid evolution of what was achieved in the last game.
