The Philippines is far from the first country you think of when it comes to the video game industry, but it’s quietly evolved into a budding hub for game development. The island nation initially had a tenuous relationship with the medium, as for a brief period of time in the 1980s, video games were banned in the country. Now, the Philippines has a reputation for its thriving esports scene , and the output of quality Filipino-made games is gradually rising. To observe Filipino American History Month, we’re looking at several recent games made in the Philippines, many of which include distinctly Filipino cultural elements showcased for players around the world.
Rockstar Games gave GTA 6s' developers so much freedom to add cool details that not even the studio's top executives are aware of everything in the game. The latest behind-the-scenes information on GTA 6 comes from Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier, who expanded upon his trip to the Rockstar North offices in Edinburgh, Scotland, after previously sharing other highlights last week. One of the more noteworthy bits shared in his 18-minute video's runtime is that the team who spent a decade or so making next month's Grand Theft Auto game had quite a bit of freedom to add details simply because they thought they might be cool. Schreier said he'd guess that "not even top developers" at Rockstar know every tiny detail added to Vice City and its wealth of NPCs.

No matter what your opinion is on the art style, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is shaping up to be a brilliant remake Song of rebirth. I honestly can't tell you how many times I've completed The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, let alone how many hours I've spent in its bucolic version of Hyrule. Though, when I told my Mum about the upcoming remake she said, 'Oh the one with the music,' in a tone I've decided to interpret as delight. PvP pinball is such a good idea I can't believe I haven't played it before Bumper Bout has a demo on Steam right now. One of the great things about videogame conventions is there are always people up for playing a local multiplayer game, just waiting to be handed controls and thrown into a new experience. Which is how, at PAX Australia over the weekend, I found myself playing a game called Bumper Bout. Don't worry, Valve: I've got your next Deadlock character concepts sorted The Cursed Apple is ready for Humpty Dumpty and the Loch Ness Monster's Precocious Preteen Child. Deadlock is one of the most delightful things happening in videogame art direction. It's a festival of phenomenal vibes: a striking setting, an all-timer aesthetic that bleeds into every scrap of environmental art and UI element, and—crucially—a roster of instantly charming occult character designs. Leveraging the brainworms from a youth spent in World of Warcraft to write for sites like Waypoint, Polygon, and Fanbyte, Lincoln spent three years freelancing for PC Gamer before joining on as a full-time News Writer in 2024, bringing an expertise in Caves of Qud bird diplomacy, getting sons killed in Crusader Kings, and hitting dinosaurs with hammers in Monster Hunter.
We got the chance to sit down with the one and only Guillermo del Toro as part of our IGN30 Icons Series, where he let us in on his favorite games, how he made his iconic movies, and his experience working with some of the biggest stars in filmmaking. He also chatted about Pan’s Labyrinth, which is turning 20 years old this year. Instead of one to 10, I want to be like, “This is a 40 Red Bull movie.” Guillermo del Toro: When I went back to America, Red Bull started traveling from Europe to there. And Pan’s Labyrinth cost exactly the same, $19.3 million, both movies.

EA Sports FC has often been accused of focusing too much on Ultimate Team, while leaving other modes out in the cold. EA Sports FC 27 bucks that trend, making every mode feel like the star player. When we reviewed EA FC 26, we called it the “best football game in years,” praising the superb gameplay even if there wasn’t much ambition away from the grass. With the follow-up, EA Sports has gone in the opposite direction, playing it safe on the pitch while shaking things up behind the scenes.
Christopher Judge, one of the most recognisable and iconic voices in video games, has clarified some recent comments he made on the God of War TV show. Although Ryan Hurst has had to abdicate the lead role, the voice of Kratos wasn't throwing in his hat to take Hurst's place, despite initial impressions. While attending FanExpo Boston, Judge commented on what he believes is a common problem across video game adaptations. "You have this pre-existing, successful property, and the first thing you do is not hire anyone associated with it," he said.
What do Dark Souls , Super Monkey Ball, Shadow of the Colossus , and Minecraft have in common? They are all explicit inspirations for The Canon of Balls, a spooky and unforgiving new open world platformer in which you are a horrified statue's face with a fleshy pink tongue, floating inside a rolling cage. You can use your tongue as a springboard. I think The Canon of Balls could be good.

Big Walk ignores 'friendslop' trends, and is better for it A co-op game for friends with attention spans. As much as I love many of the games that've come to define "friendslop," they aren't hitting with my friends like they used to. I wouldn't be surprised if the devs at House House are a little disappointed that their new co-op puzzle game, Big Walk, will inevitably draw comparisons to "friendslop," the loose genre applied to viral hits like Repo, Lethal Company, and Peak. It's out August 4 for… well, I'm not sure how many dollars, but I would happily pay $20 or $25—it's a pretty big game!

An hour with Pokopia suggests it might be the best Pokémon spin-off ever - and it's more Viva Pinata than Minecraft or Animal Crossing How do you get a transforming pocket monster into a promising-looking genre mix? When Pokopia was announced, most people drew a couple of quick comparative conclusions from its first cutesy trailer. There was much to be said in reaction, but the broad deduction can be efficiently summarised as this: Pokopia is Pokémon's take on Animal Crossing. It quickly transpired, also, that the game shares development staff with Dragon Quest Builders, a Minecraft-inspired spin-off of another major turn-based Japanese role-playing franchise.
