Upcoming vampire RPG Nighthawks has been removed from Steam search and delisted in certain countries as Valve classifies it Adults Only: 'It's very bad news for us' Nighthawks, the long-in-development vampire RPG due to be released later this month, is the latest game to run afoul of Steam's increasingly stringent rules regarding adult content. According to publisher Wadjet Eye Games, the game has been labelled 'Adults Only'—causing it to be removed from Steam search and outright delisted in certain countries like Germany—despite claims from both developer and publisher that the RPG's depictions of sex and nudity are very mild. "We are aware that Steam has classified Nighthawks as an adult game and has excluded it from searches," Wadjet Eye boss Dave Gilbert wrote on Bluesky. Sega shared an extended Stranger than Heaven demo playthrough trailer as part of its gamescom 2026 promotions for the new RGG Studio game. It features a slice of gameplay highlighting what it will be like to play as Makoto Daito in-game during the 1915, 1929, and 1943 time periods. It also offers some of the most extended opportunities to see how the combat system in Stranger than Heaven will work, given it changes things up from the formula used in the original Yakuza games and Judgment. The May 2026 announcement went over the story, showed we’ll be returning to Kamurocho from Like a Dragon / Yakuza, and revealed Ado, Satoshi Fujihara, Snoop Dogg, and Tori Kelly will be in the game and sing its theme song together.
Days before over 500 movies are set to be pulled from PlayStation libraries in several territories, StudioCanal has launched a new catalog that includes home entertainment and theatrical re-releases. Per a press release, StudioCanal Classics, which comprises of over 18,000 titles, is beginning its launch with worldwide theatrical re-releases of Terminator 2: Judgement Day, Manhunter: The Final Cut, and Pan's Labyrinth (which the studio says is the "way they were meant to be seen: on the big screen"). Home entertainment releases include Chaplin, Inside Llewelyn Davis, and a complete David Lynch collection (the latter of which has me absolutely seated). Back in June, PlayStation users in some territories received a message that StudioCanal content would be removed from their libraries effective September 1 due to a licensing agreement expiring (H/T Kotaku).
Steam Week in Review: A touch of AI is all it takes to trigger backlash, as a promising new indie falls afoul of slop skeptics All the interesting Steam facts for the week ending August 23 Vapor World: Over The Mind is a Soulslike Metroidvania with an evocative, painterly art style reminiscent of Lies of P and the narrative platformers of Playdead. According to Korean studio Alive Inc, the game had 100,000 wishlists just before its early access launch on August 19, mostly on the strength of a demo available since January 2025. The top 11-20 part of the list is arguably more interesting: Mortal Shell 2 debuted at number 12, Wardogs pre-orders catapulted it to number 13 (though its current beta is apparently blowing up, with an all-time concurrent players peak of 105,774), and the Lord of the Rings: War in the North reissue has sold decently enough to help it reach number 17. 10/10 Broken just like Morrowind" Skybob, on The Lantern of the Laughless Saint, who I'm sure is also relentlessly bunnyhopping to increase Acrobatics.
Nintendo has filed seven DMCA anti-circumvention notices in a single day, wiping out more than 400 Switch emulator repositories from GitHub. The sweep, carried out on August 17, 2026, hit several major emulation projects and their entire fork networks at once. Suyu takes the biggest hit According to TorrentFreak, 401 repositories were removed in total, with 311 of those belonging to a single network tied to Suyu, the emulator that rose to prominence after Yuzu’s 2024 collapse. The first is Yuzu creator Tropic Haze’s 2024 $2.4 million settlement.

After 25% positive Steam reviews, Soulslike dev realizes people hate AI slop and admits "if it looks like the effort is not there, that is a fair reading of what is on screen" Vapor World: Over the Mind is a newly released Soulslike platformer promising a twisted world and Sekiro-like combat, but all anyone can talk about it is its hideous AI-generated cutscenes, and that includes its own director. It launched on Steam in Early Access on Tuesday, August 18 and has since received user reviewers averaging 25% positive.
Like many of us, Sam Rosenthal plays games like Wordle every day, chasing after good scores and sharing the results with friends and family. But he’s also a game designer, the creative director at Blaseball developer The Game Band, and so this regular habit got him thinking about what else could be done in the space. “When I was a kid and I played word games with my family, they weren’t the New York Times puzzle games,” Rosenthal explains. “We were sitting in a car on a road trip playing these really loose games that couldn’t be made digitally before.
There's an association or an assumption from certain pockets of the internet that women only play cozy games. Now obviously, that's not true, but also, if it is, who cares? Well, lots of people apparently. So what's an acceptable genre for women to play?

August is the calm before the storm for this year's new game releases It's Star Wars Zero Company, Metal Gear Solid 4, and Gamescom month. August is another quiet month for new PC game releases in 2026, but use the lull to catch up on other games from this year (or month) before September. I count three survival crafting game 1.0 updates on the horizon I want to play (Valheim, Enshrouded, and RuneScape: Dragonwilds), so I'll see how many guys and gals I can make time to smooch this month with the Fields of Mistria 1.0 launch before I kiss them all goodbye. Final Fantasy 7 Remake series director Naoki Hamaguchi has revealed Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is close to completion, and that he's quite confident that it'll hit the mark. Speaking to YouTube creator Ashif’s Release Notes (via Genki_JPN), Hamaguchi was asked about his approach to helming the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, as someone who was inspired by the series itself, and while the 12 years he's been working on the project have caused him to feel a massive amount of responsibility and pressure, things have somewhat calmed as he approaches the end. "Having been able to announce FF7 revelation at SGF, I hope that people out there can look at it and think this looks like it will be pretty good," Hamaguchi says, adding, "As we are now approaching the end, it's nearing completion. I personally can pick it up and play it and think, 'yeah, this feels good; this is satisfying.' So I am quite confident in it." Latest Videos FromGamesRadar+ Of course, with it being the final entry in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy and coinciding with the original game's 30th anniversary, Revelation has a fair amount riding on it as a release.
The industry makes great games, but nobody can find them Algorithms built to surface content are increasingly rewarding volume, familiarity, and short-term engagement over quality or originality, concluded a workgroup at the Madeira Games Summit At the Madeira Games Summit in May, Michal Bujko, senior business development manager at Modma Studios, asked a question: If we were looking back at 2026 five years from now, what should we have fixed when we still had the chance? There was a unanimous answer from the workgroup he was leading: discoverability. The industry already makes great games, the group concluded. The problem is that almost nobody can find them.

Final Fantasy 14 director Naoki "Yoshi-P" Yoshida has big plans for the MMO with its new expansion Evercold – but if he were to work on a separate online game, he might take a bit of a different path than he has with the Square Enix gem. The beloved lead reveals as much in a new interview with GamesRadar+, first explaining how, for Evercold, he "chose to steer FF14 towards 'change' in pursuit of creating even more enjoyment and evolving further. I felt that, in terms of mindset and time, we were prepared to update the gaming experience to be more enjoyable and comfortable for our players and their lifestyles." That aligns well with what's to come. Final Fantasy 14, Monster Hunter, and Animal Crossing top new survey of games Japanese players have spent the most time on and I can't say I'm surprised.

Pokemon card scalpers are generally regarded as the worst part of the hobby, and in Japan, The Pokemon Company is taking steps to address the problem. As part of its crackdown to create a safe shopping environment, The Pokemon Company is introducing a facial recognition system for adult shoppers and children of a certain age. According to its website , this will be a mandatory measure for gaining access to a Pokemon Card Store, and customers may only enter a shop once per day. In January, thieves armed with guns and hammers stormed a newly opened Pokemon store and stole over $100,000 worth of collectibles.
