Wizards of the Coast has announced it will end a play format in Magic: The Gathering Arena. The Alchemy format, a digital-only format for the digital version of the iconic card game, will end shortly after the launch of the latest set, Reality Fracture. The End of the Alchemy Format on Magic: The Gathering Arena In an official blog post, Wizards of the Coast announced it is retiring the Alchemy format in early 2027. That number has increased to six per year; 2026 alone contains Secrets of Strixhaven, Lorwyn Eclipsed, and three Universes Beyond sets featuring The Hobbit, Marvel Super Heroes, and Star Trek.
Spoiler season has officially begun for Reality Fracture, Magic: The Gathering's upcoming multiversal set that serves as the culmination of the TCG's three-year story arc. Set in an alternate universe (referred to as the Echoverse) in which Planeswalker Jace Beleren has oh-so-generously taken it upon himself to "fix" everything he finds wrong with the world, Reality Fracture depicts his hostile, perfectly curated world and the other Planeswalkers of Lorwyn's efforts to demolish it. Ahead of the set's official release on October 2, Wizard of the Coast offered GameSpot an exclusive look at three cards: Surveillance Phantasm , Silence the Echo , and Chandra's Emberling . Each of these cards depicts a moment from Reality Fracture's 10-part story , which just wrapped up earlier this week.
It seems as though the Discworld RPG is growing, because a new expansion starring some of the setting's most beloved characters has just been revealed. Modiphius Entertainment is pulling back the curtain on Discworld: Adventures in Lancre and Überwald, a new sourcebook for its Discworld RPG system that emerged last year. As the name would suggest, this tome will let you explore Lancre (home to witches like the famous Granny Weatherwax) and the vampire-riddled Überwald. You'll also be able to explore The Chalk, where the tiny Wee Free Men live.
Magic: The Gathering's final in-universe expansion of the year, Reality Fracture, is a consequential one for the lore of MTG. The current story arc, in which longtime hero Jace Beleren has become the overarching villain, reaches its conclusion here, and with Jace playing such a pivotal role in the story, it makes sense that he also plays a major part in the cards. In fact, Jace is the focus of a new mechanic debuting in Reality Fracture, one that lead designer Mark Rosewater has been hyping up since MagicCon Atlanta in September 2025. That mechanic, as announced today during the Reality Fracture reveal stream, is the Jace Token, a new type of token that focuses on Planeswalker abilities.
A lot of the mainstream buzz around Magic: The Gathering in recent months has revolved around its Universes Beyond initiative, which has introduced outside IP into the decades-old card game. Final Fantasy, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and most recently Marvel Super Heroes have released full expansions, with The Hobbit and Star Trek set to arrive later this year. At MagicCon Amsterdam, the Preview Panel focused on Magic's established multiverse, as the hour-long panel revealed all three in-universe sets coming to Magic in 2027 , with the Universes Beyond announcements saved for another day. Under the sea with Nauctis: The Sunken Realm 2027's first Magic: The Gathering expansion will be Nauctis: The Sunken Realm on February 5, which is set in a world that's entirely underwater.
MagicCon: Amsterdam is officially in full-swing, and with it comes some major announcements for Magic: The Gathering's future. After sharing a closer look at Reality Fracture , Magic's upcoming and world-altering set that sees Planeswalker Jace Belren reshape the game's multiverse, Wizards of the Coast offered fans a highly anticipated first look at everything coming in 2027. Next year, Magic: The Gathering is kicking off a brand new story arc supplemented by three in-universe sets : Nauctis: The Sunken Realm, Kamigawa: Titanbreach, and Zhalfir. Below are the dates of each convention: MagicCon: Detroit - February 26-28 MagicCon: Tokyo - May 14-16 MagicCon: Las Vegas - August 27-29 MagicCon: Amsterdam - December 3-5 As you can see, there have been a lot of major announcements at this year's MagicCon Amsterdam.
Later this week, MagicCon Amsterdam will bring tons of news on Magic: The Gathering's next two expansions, August's The Hobbit and October's in-universe Reality Fracture. Today, Wizards of the Coast kicked off MagicCon week with a look further into the future and into deep space, as multiple cards from November's Star Trek set were revealed, including a set of Headliner cards that boldly go where no Magic card has ever gone before: authentic autographs. The Star Trek set, which encompasses all 60 years of the franchise's history, will feature seven Headliner cards--premium variants of cards from the main expansion that only appear in Collector Booster packs--that not only feature seven of Star Trek's most iconic characters, but also the autographs of the actors who played them. The four Commander decks are as follows: Federation Fleet (White/Blue/Red) Landing Party (White/Blue/Green) Klingon Fury (White/Black/Red) We Are The Borg (White/Blue/Black) The Magic: The Gathering Star Trek expansion releases November 20 in big box retailers and local game stores, with prerelease events set to begin on November 13.
