A YouTuber fed up with the state of modern PC gaming has rebuilt their childhood computer from 1996, only to discover someone else’s homework and Doom 2 cheats on an old hard drive. Frustrated by rising hardware prices, the creator spent months tracking down vintage components to recreate the machine that first sparked their love of gaming nearly 30 years ago. YouTuber brings childhood gaming PC back to life In a YouTube video documenting the project, TrashBench explained that their fascination with PC gaming began at age 11 after seeing Need for Speed Special Edition running on their cousin’s computer. They also experimented with a vintage 3D accelerator, settling on a $100 Matrox Mystique after discovering that a 3dfx Voodoo card would cost around $1,000.
Tributes are pouring in for Duke Nukem and Sin level designer Richard 'Levelord' Gray, who passed away on October 12, 2026, aged 68. Gray got his start making modded levels for Doom, making his official game development debut as a designer for fellow FPS Duke Nukem 3D, before going on to design levels for the likes of Quake, Half-Life: Opposing Force, and Counter-Strike: Condition Zero, as well as being a primary designer on Sin. Apogee founder Scott Miller recalls, "Richard was a stellar talent who joined the game industry in his 40's when Apogee hired him to join the Duke 3D team," calling him "a relentless hard worker, a fun teammate, and an overall great human." Longtime 3D Realms community manager Joe Siegler says he "was like the friend to everyone" and that "I had a great fortune to work with him directly for a couple of years." Latest Videos FromGamesRadar+ 3D Realms co-founder George Broussard adds, "Richard was a unique character. He was called 'Levelord' for a reason." Romero praises episodes two and three of Duke Nukem 3D, saying they "had such distinctive designs." PC Gamer reports that Gears of War creator Cliff Bleszinski paid tribute to Gray on his private Twitter account, saying, "RIP Richard 'Levelord' Gray.
(You're not supposed to be here), спрятанную им в труднодоступных местах на уровнях Duke Nukem 3D.
12 октября скончался Ричард Грей, также известный под ником Levelord — геймдизайнер, работавший над многими культовыми играми. Об этом сообщила его жена Ольга. Грей начал работу в индустрии в 1994 году. Он отвечал за разработку уровней в Duke Nukem 3D, Quake, SiN, Heavy Metal: F.A.K.K., Star Trek: Elite Force II, Counter-Strike: Condition Zero (Deleted Scenes), Delta Force: Black Hawk Down и других.
The advent of first-person shooters introduced a wild frontier of unregulated video game level packs, and it ended in a lawsuit that changed copyright forever Weird Weekend is our regular Saturday column where we celebrate PC gaming oddities: peculiar games, strange bits of trivia, forgotten history. After nearly 19 years in development hell, Ubisoft's Beyond Good & Evil 2 is somehow still showing signs of life Don't get jaded. Nearly 18 years after its original announcement, Beyond Good & Evil 2 apparently still isn't dead, according to a Ubisoft Bordeaux developer who says he's been working on the game for months. Beyond Good & Evil 2 was originally unveiled back in 2008, and has seemingly been stuck in development hell ever since. There was a further flurry of news in January 2023 when Ubisoft insisted Beyond Good & Evil 2 still existed, and gameplay footage emerged that September via an animator's portfolio.
Despite everything suggesting otherwise, Beyond Good and Evil 2 is apparently still happening and in development, with an Assassin's Creed Shadows: Claws of Awaji developer announcing his involvement. As spotted by IGN, over on Bluesky, Rik Godwin, lead writer and associate narrative director at Ubisoft Bordeaux, confirms that "for the past few months I've been working on Beyond Good & Evil 2 in a support/consultant role." The game has been missing in action for some time, but this is the latest confirmation that it's apparently still happening. Beyond Good and Evil 2 was announced back in 2008 in the form of a teaser trailer showing Pey'j and Jade, which was to be Ubisoft Montpellier's next release. Latest Videos FromGamesRadar+ Original Beyond Good and Evil director Michel Ancel departed Ubisoft in 2020, and then in 2023, the sequel's creative director Emile Morel sadly passed away at the age of 40, with Fawzi Mesmar taking on the role.

Sometimes, Sundays are only for rounding up videogame criticism and journalism. I try to cast a wider net when my turn comes to deliver the Papers, because I figure you've probably been reading about videogames all week, and would appreciate e.g. an essay on the mating habits of snails or the top 7 most elaborate UFO conspiracies, but this Sunday, there are no snails or UFOs within easy dredge. So instead, please accept a boatload of finest mitherings on Duke Nukem , oracular visual novels, sociable space sims, and 'search action' games.
You wait ages for a surprise launch of additional Quake adventures, and then two come along at once. The original game just received an official new episode as part of the shooter's 30th anniversary celebrations taking place at this year's QuakeCon. But now Raven Software's Quake 4 has got in on the action, as a build of the sequel's cancelled expansion has been discovered and uploaded to GitHub. Said developer is Justin Marshall, a programmer who has worked on games such as The Evil Within, XCOM 2, Dead Island 2, and The Dark Pictures Anthology—and unfortunately is one of the casualties of the industry's massive swathe of layoffs.

A former Bethesda employee has revealed that the publisher was working on an unannounced PVP shooter which was eventually canceled. The employee, who was included in Xbox's latest wave of layoffs that hit the publisher, included details about his 12-year tenure at Bethesda on his LinkedIn profile (via Twitter user Timur222), which included a detail from his role as an associate producer that reads: "Supported production on an unannounced PvP FPS title (subsequently canceled), contributing to scheduling and cross-team coordination." However, that's pretty much all there is in terms of info for this title. Keep in mind the dev worked at Bethesda Softworks, not Bethesda Game Studios – the studio developing Elder Scrolls and Fallout titles – so there's a ton of possibilities. In a Bethesda roadmap leaked in 2023, there was a title called "Project Platinum," which Giant Bomb founder Jeff Gerstmann identified as a Machine Games title in the vein of Rainbow Six Siege or Counter-Strike.
