Riot is ending development of its 2XKO fighting game Despite its best efforts since launch, the numbers just aren't there. Six months after laying off approximately 80 developers because "overall momentum hasn't reached the level needed to support a team of this size long term," Riot Games has announced that it is ending development of its fighting game 2XKO. Servers for online play will remain available and the game is also playable offline, but "active development will conclude at the end of 2026." "Over the last few months, we've been monitoring 2XKO's trajectory closely, and what we've seen is painting a clear, consistent picture: while a lot of you jumped in to try the game and there's an incredible community that plays every day, we haven't seen enough players stick with the game to get to a path toward sustainability," Riot wrote in today's update. The untimely end of 2XKO sucks, but Riot is at least trying to give players a soft landing: Today's announcement includes a roadmap for the remaining updates, and Riot said it's "figuring out what more we can do for players, TOs, competitors, and creators that have consistently shown up for the FGC through 2X." Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 releases on October 23 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2.

ZeroSpace is an impressively ambitious RTS-RPG featuring a Helldivers 2-inspired Galactic War, but the streamer pandering is a real bummer I really don't want to help a content creator become the Galactic Emperor. It's dangerous to get too excited about a new RTS. Activision has provided a closer look at Modern Warfare 4's ambitious new Kill Block map, which shows how the dynamic map completely changes the environment between each match. Modern Warfare 4's Kill Block is set at the fictional West Bridge Advanced Military Training Facility, where modular battlegrounds reconfigure before every match, creating hundreds of potential map combinations. https://youtu.be/SJt5bbgQ-TQ?si=nAWZON4R197lE2CE Kill Block's full map size is equivalent to the popular Shoot House map from 2019's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, but the design consists of three "slabs" that are all modular pieces that can be swapped out and connected with other pieces in various different ways. Activision says this provides "an ever-changing combo map that enables players to experience a variety of Shoot House-style environments across numerous combat scenarios." Each slab on its own is roughly the size of Call of Duty's 2v2 Gunfight maps, and there are enough individual slabs to form more than 500 combo configurations for Kill Block at the launch of Modern Warfare 4.

After cutting half of 2XKO's team less than 30 days from launch, I have to ask: how can any of us get behind a new Riot game ever again? Riot Games is "downsizing" a substantial number of developers from the team that has been working on 2XKO, the fighting game that only launched less than a month ago. Roughly 80 staff will be either transferred to other teams at Riot, or laid off with six months' severance pay. In a statement posted on the Riot Games website, 2XKO executive producer Tom Cannon broke the news to the public.
