The Marvel's Wolverine Metacritic scores are in and they're… OK. Insomniac's latest superhero adventure has solid combat foundations and good performances from its lead characters, but its story never ultimately coheres, the fighting peaks way too early, and it's extremely limited in scope compared to modern first-party PlayStation games. At least, that's my feeling after finishing a pre-release version of the game. In our full Marvel's Wolverine review, Leon writes that "Marvel's Wolverine is never a bad experience, just an underwhelming one full of odd choices.
People have been inflicting the cruel colors and harsh lines of Nvidia's DLSS 5 on games that were normal before they were forced to look like AI-enhanced Love Island, and Hello Games' stylized space explorer No Man's Sky is the latest victim. A popular fanmade clip showing No Man's Sky looking more unnaturally crisp than a hangnail reveals plenty of people actually want DLSS 5 – but that developer Hello Games probably won't give it to them. The original post from Twitch streamer Oskar1up has over 6,000 likes and 1.8 million views on Twitter as comments commend the dramatic peach sunset and glassy ocean waves DLSS 5 gives the otherwise subtly beautiful game from 2016. Another Twitter user says of Oskar1up's DLSS 5 experiment, "No Man's Sky is like the perfect game for DLSS 5, no human faces so no weird uncanny valley, and tons of natural and space scenes can use the realism boost." But Griffiths doesn't seem convinced by this claim that DLSS 5 has no downsides when applied to environments.

This plan also motivates Konami to keep moving Silent Hill far away from its original home in fall-apart Maine, as Okamoto says, "If we stay laser-focused on the same American setting, that would exhaust [narrative] possibilities, and also potentially cause fatigue for the playerbase." Okamoto wants anyone working on a Silent Hill game to tailor the IP, so keeping it flying around the world lets developers "work within the types of environments and the types of storytelling that works best for them." Every main Silent Hill game released or announced this decade was made by a developer that wasn't Konami, so it sounds like the publisher will continue to experiment with who gets to define Silent Hill.

Ubisoft's NFT tactics game, a thing that still exists, is shutting down in October Technically, it shed its Web3 functionality in May, but it didn't seem to help much. Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles, Ubisoft's NFT tactics game, will be shutting down in October, as announced on its website and its official Discord. Until then, the game will remain fully playable, and our goal is to ensure that players can continue to enjoy the experience during these final months." Champions Tactics had already shed its NFT features earlier this year, announcing in May that it would "progressively transition away from blockchain functionality" due to "upcoming changes to the blockchain infrastructure supporting the game’s Web3 features." In the following days, Ubisoft removed the ability to mint and sell its NFT characters—some of which had been listed on the Champions Tactics marketplace for over $63,000 shortly after launch. 2026 games: All the upcoming games Best PC games: Our all-time favorites Free PC games: Freebie fest Best FPS games: Finest gunplay Best RPGs: Grand adventures Best co-op games: Better together Lincoln has been writing about games for 12 years—unless you include the essays about procedural storytelling in Dwarf Fortress he convinced his college professors to accept.
Gamesight: Creators are best predictor for a game's success, not viewership "The number of distinct creators continually picking up the game is a better signal of whether a community is actually forming" The number of active creators and streamers after launch is the clearest predictor of success for player-versus-player first-person shooter games, rather than the total hours watched, according to new data. Analysis from marketing platform Gamesight shows that the number of creators producing content by day three of a game's launch reliably predicts its long-term success on Twitch. Gamesight analyzed 25 launches, including established franchises and new releases, and found that PvP FPS games have the highest retention among shooter subgenres. Gamesight grouped launches such as Counter-Strike 2, Valorant, Overwatch 2, Concord, and Highguard into three categories: high retention (sustained long-term creator interest), stable retention (a small, consistent base), and low retention (sunset or shutdown announced within 24 hours of launch).

In the kart-racing genre, Mario Kart's reigns supreme. But the social media team behind Garfield Kart: Furious Racing and Garfield Kart 2: All You Can Drift didn't miss a chance to dunk on Nintendo's decision to sunset Mario Kart Tour this fall.
