Knizia is something of a legend amongst the tabletop community with plenty of awards to his name (one of his most recent projects was the excellent Hobbit: There and Back Again roll and write game, which you can find for just under $40 at Amazon), so the fact that Readers Digested adapts his work is enough to put it on the radar so far as I'm concerned.
Oblivion Remastered has by and large been a huge success for Bethesda both critically and commercially, but even more than a year after launch, it still suffers from poor performance including stuttering, frame rate instability, and crashes. The Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game launched today with touchscreen, mouse control, and gyro aiming support, as well as general improvements like DLSS anti-aliasing and "performance optimizations from the original Oblivion Remastered release," according to Bethesda itself. There's been no official sign that these performance improvements are coming to other platforms. "The Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game has a number of optimizations that we are looking into bringing to other platforms and we will share more when we are able." I haven't had the chance to play Oblivion Remastered on Switch 2, but I played it a lot on PS5 last year and definitely felt like it could use a little polish despite the incredible visual overhaul and systems refinements.
Last year's The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered did a lot more than slap a fresh coat of paint on the 2006 RPG, with environments (but not necessarily character models) that look straight out of a 2026 AAA release, but as anyone who's played the original game knows, it's still very much Oblivion, lovable jank and all. While there was a lot of deliberation about what and what not to modernize during development, Todd Howard and co. drew a hard line between remaster and full-blown remake, opting to market the game as a polished-up version of the original rather than something all new. That's because, in the words of associate art director Dan Lee, it shares the same "bones" as the original Oblivion.
Arc Raiders has proven that extraction shooters can be popular, with over 4 million copies sold in under two weeks Arc Raiders has sold even more copies, which we should've guessed, given that the game keeps breaking its own concurrent player records. It’s pretty clear at this stage that Arc Raiders is one of the biggest launches of 2025. More interesting than the numbers themselves, however, is that this is an extraction shooter - a subgenre which has typically been thought of as niche. Over the same weekend on Steam alone, Arc Raiders broke its own Steam concurrent record with a new peak of 462,488 players - which is a significant chunk of that 700,000+ player base.
