Studio Atelico launches Atelico AI Engine into Early Access "The studios that succeed won't be the ones using the most AI, they'll be the ones using AI entirely in service of the player experience," says CEO Studio Atelico has launched its Atelico AI Engine into Early Access. The studio's technology, first used in its debut game Bobium Brawlers, is designed to run on-device instead of relying on data centres. The Atelico AI Engine works with Unity, Unreal Engine, and Godot, enabling developers to generate images, run language models, implement speech systems, and create AI-driven character behaviors. The engine allows AI to run alongside gameplay without impacting rendering performance and removes cloud dependencies across Windows, macOS, iOS, and Linux, on both GPU and CPU.

A Resident Evil fan is turning Zach Cregger’s new movie into a survival horror game that looks like it came straight off the original PlayStation. Developer Julian Zamora, who goes by chicanogoth on Instagram, has shared early footage of the project, which is being built in the Godot engine and uses the fixed camera angles the original games were known for. Fan game recreates the Resident Evil movie’s barn scene The clip recreates one of the film’s early scenes, where Bryan, played by Austin Abrams, takes shelter in a barn during a snowstorm before being chased down by an infected dog. Cregger’s Resident Evil released in theaters on September 18 and follows Bryan, a medical courier who has to fight his way through an outbreak to deliver a package to Raccoon City General Hospital.

William Pugh, co-designer of The Stanley Parable, has over 1,600 hours in Dota 2: 'It's not a game made of love. Come back every weekend to read a new interview, digging into the important questions, like "How tidy is your desktop?" and "What game will you never uninstall?" William Pugh grew up on a diet of shareware Mac titles like 1993's Scruffy versus the Invaders from Mars, but his earliest PC gaming memory is engaging in annelid antics in Worms 4: Mayhem—his first encounter with online multiplayer: "I remember playing that for the first time with random matchmaking," he says. "I think it was a 1v1 or whatever, and you're face-to-face with a complete stranger … I remember that being a kind of door opening for me." That door would lead Pugh into the cartoonish arenas of Team Fortress 2, which in turn introduced him to the Source engine mapping community. Following The Stanley Parable's success, Pugh founded Crows Crows Crows, which specialises in comic adventures such as Dr Langeskov, The Tiger, and the Terribly Cursed Emerald, the VR game Accounting+, and stealth sequel The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe.

Inside Tencent's long-term strategy: live service, AI tools, and evergreen titles "I think people should just not be afraid of AI" Many column inches have been spent questioning the wisdom of focusing on live-service. Sony gambled and lost, as did many other companies chasing the dream of steady recurring revenues, while firms like Capcom that stuck to the traditional path have emerged relatively unscathed. That includes Miniclip, Sumo Digital, Funcom, Fat Shark, Sharkmob, 10 Chambers, and Stunlock Studios in Europe, as well as Digital Extremes in North America and Grinding Gear Games in New Zealand. Three Epic veterans are building an AI-powered game engine to break the industry's doom cycle Amid mounting discontent with Unity and Unreal, Immens promises lower costs and faster development for small teams Unity and Unreal have dominated the development scene for a long time now, and were used to make roughly 70% of the games released on Steam in 2025. Godot has seen some significant growth in the past few years, and many big companies still favour proprietary engines – like Capcom with its RE Engine – but otherwise, Unity and Unreal have got the game engine market sewn up. Yet Arjan Brussee, Sjoerd De Jong, and Michal Valient, the founders of Immens, think there is room for a new engine on the scene – and room for improvement. The industry veterans' CVs cover an impressive range of big-name companies, including Unreal maker Epic Games, Guerrilla Games, Boss Key, and Apple, and the trio are ready to challenge the industry titans.

Godot natively supports coding in Sumero-Akkadian Cuneiform, if you needed another reason to switch game engines Take cognizance that (from now on) I will not accept here any code that is not of fine quality. In a time when the dominant game engines are contorting themselves to accommodate generative AI toolsets and the resurrected specter of NFTs, game developers who might be investigating alternatives should be asking themselves one very important, yet all too often overlooked question: Does this engine's built-in scripting language allow me to write code using the finest and most adaptive logo-syllabic writing system ever devised in ancient Mesopotamia? This is perfectly valid code you can write in your game: — @steinmakesgames.bsky.social (@steinmakesgames.bsky.social.bsky.social) 2026-07-30T22:07:29.801Z Well, if you're considering Godot for your next project, the answer is a resounding 𒀭𒈾. 2026 games: All the upcoming games Best PC games: Our all-time favorites Free PC games: Freebie fest Best FPS games: Finest gunplay Best RPGs: Grand adventures Best co-op games: Better together Lincoln has been writing about games for 12 years—unless you include the essays about procedural storytelling in Dwarf Fortress he convinced his college professors to accept.

After leaving Epic Games last month, its former 'Unreal evangelist' is now building his own game engine Sjoerd De Jong aims to combat game development "stagnation" he says has emerged from Epic and Unity market dominance. In June, Sjoerd De Jong—an Unreal Engine modder and map creator turned full-time specialist at Epic Games—announced that he was leaving the company after 12 years as a senior director and Unreal Engine "lead evangelist." In a cryptic departure message, he said the games industry was at a "pivotal point," and he's aiming to "work out how to adapt and excel" at addressing the changing needs of videogame development. Shortly before De Jong left the company, Epic revealed its focus for Unreal Engine's future, envisioning a "central role" for "LLMs, generative AI models, and tools like Claude and Codex." De Jong is skeptical that "those existing engines or existing [development] tools, that were made for humans over the years, are able to really serve [agentic AI]." While Immens is being built to offer a more accommodating development platform for agentic AI to interface with, De Jong said "it's not an 'AI engine'"—it's a "proper game engine that happens to be friendly to an AI architecture." Developers, he said, are still going to have to do the developing: "We don't want [users to] press a button and generate a game, and then release it alongside the other five million games people have made that way." 2026 games: All the upcoming games Best PC games: Our all-time favorites Free PC games: Freebie fest Best FPS games: Finest gunplay Best RPGs: Grand adventures Best co-op games: Better together Lincoln has been writing about games for 12 years—unless you include the essays about procedural storytelling in Dwarf Fortress he convinced his college professors to accept. Leveraging the brainworms from a youth spent in World of Warcraft to write for sites like Waypoint, Polygon, and Fanbyte, Lincoln spent three years freelancing for PC Gamer before joining on as a full-time News Writer in 2024, bringing an expertise in Caves of Qud bird diplomacy, getting sons killed in Crusader Kings, and hitting dinosaurs with hammers in Monster Hunter.
Modern indie games are often celebrated for pushing creative boundaries, but one new competition is asking developers to do the exact opposite by squeezing an entire game into a 1.44mb floppy disk. With developers constantly working around hardware limitations on handhelds, older consoles, and even retro-inspired systems, game jams and coding challenges have become a popular way to test technical creativity. Korean contest challenges devs to make games under 1.44MB Essentially, Korean indie game site 2P Game Arcade has launched a new contest challenging developers to create an original game that takes up no more than 1,474,560 bytes, or 1.44MB, after decompression. There is a prize to be won too, though the contest page describes the prizes as “a small souvenir.” First place will earn 720,000 South Korean won (roughly $490), while second place will receive 280,000 won (roughly $190) and third place will take home 144,000 won (roughly $98).
The foundation behind the open source Godot game engine have announced a crackdown on the use of generative AI by contributors, following a wave of "demoralizing", "low-effort slop" that has added to an already overwhelming quantity of requests for code review. While they'll still let people deploy the chatbot technology for smaller, "menial" jobs such as finding and replacing code, they're taking a stricter stance on "vibe coding" – asking a bot to generate whole swathes of code – and will also require contributors to disclose any genAI usage.
The developers of the free, open source and cross-platform Godot Engine are adjusting their policies to get stricter on AI code contributions. Read the full article on GamingOnLinux .
