Best known for his work on the Castlevania series and as Creative Director on Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, Ida spent decades helping shape some of the most influential action-platformers ever made. Writing in a statement translated by Automaton, ArtPlay co-founder Koji Igarashi paid tribute to Ida’s legacy: “In the early hours of Tuesday, February 10, 2026, our Creative Director, Shutaro, passed away peacefully after battling cancer for approximately one and a half years. The long-awaited remaster of Legacy of Kain: Defiance is coming, and the stars have foretold it will arrive later this year. Much like the remasters of Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver and its sequel, the Defiance redux boldly reimagines key elements of the original game. One of these deviations, a complete overhaul of the game's camera system, has convinced me Destiny's wheel isn't as unstoppable as it seems. GTFO and Den of Wolves developer 10 Chambers confirms "large number" of layoffs, including "several of the studio's co-founders" "We're taking a hard look at how we work and how the studio is set up." Within hours of co-founder and chief development officer, Hjalmar Vikström, announcing his departure to make "way smaller games", GTFO studio 10 Chambers has undertaken a "significant restructuring of the studio, impacting a large number of roles, including several of the studio's co-founders". As spotted by Game Developer, several of the developers affected by the cuts shared their news on LinkedIn, after which the studio issued a brief statement confirming the "unfortunate" roles cut by the restructure. "We can confirm that we're taking a hard look at how we work and how the studio is set up, so Den of Wolves can become the game it deserves to be. This unfortunately means a significant restructuring of the studio, impacting a large number of roles, including several of the studio's co-founders," the studio stated.

Though Beast of Reincarnation is all about "loneliness", Game Freak doesn't want it to be sad: enter "warmth", "reliability" and your dog pal Paws for thought. Game Freak may be best known as the developer behind many a Pokémon game, but that could soon be changing with its upcoming release, Beast of Reincarnation. Beast of Reincarnation places players in the shoes of Emma the Sealer, who will need to confront the source of the world's corruption to save humanity. It all takes place in a post-apocalyptic Japan, and comes complete with gritty combat, a melancholic score and some really rather stunning imagery.
THQ Nordic have just revealed that the Gothic 1 Remake is now set for release on June 5th. Bringing the original game from 2001 up to more modern standards in terms of gameplay and graphics. Last edited by such on 12 Feb 2026 at 3:48 pm UTC Which is funny because nowadays, the Gothic games have somewhat of a reputation for being difficult, partly due to weird controls and partly due to mercilessly difficult fights when you have a character with no learned skills and no equipment. Last edited by LungDrago on 13 Feb 2026 at 9:42 am UTC Then we got Risen 1 & 2 which were quite good as well, but again Risen-3 was a bit of a flop!
"We don't want to mess up the Mona Lisa" - Blizzard may expand Diablo 2 even more if the surprise warlock class release goes down well "We still have millions of people who play." Blizzard bringing a new playable character to Diablo 2: Resurrected - the first new character the game has had in 25 years - could be the start of an era of active development for the classic game, potentially seeing it evolve like a modern game does. To recap quickly: Blizzard shadow-dropped the warlock for Diablo 2 last night as part of a paid expansion release and a wider 30th anniversary celebration for the Diablo franchise. "We are excited for the opportunity we have right now to see what the community says about what we're making," said Timothy Vasconcellos, lead designer on the Diablo Legacy team, during a Diablo 2 interview at Blizzard headquarters a couple of weeks ago, which I was a part of. If we make any future changes to any classes or whatever, it's going to happen in that Reign of Warlock space." It's a big week for Diablo 2, not only with the addition of a new class, but also because it was released on Steam yesterday and on Game Pass (the Reign of the Warlock expansion is not included on Game Pass).
Highguard not shutting down following Wildlight layoffs, with a "core group" of developers left to support game "Much like our Wardens who get back up after losing a fight, we too will rise again for our next adventures." Just weeks after release, an unspecified number of Wildlight's Highguard development team has been laid off. The studio's live-service hero shooter will not be shut down, Wildlight has confirmed to Eurogamer, but instead be given to a "core group of developers" to keep the game going. In the statement shared with Eurogamer this morning, Wildlight wrote: "Today we made an incredibly difficult decision to part ways with a number of our team members while keeping a core group of developers to continue innovating on and supporting the game." The Highguard studio added it is "proud of the team, talent, and the product" it had created. Coming from several former Titanfall and Apex Legends developers, Highguard quickly had a large influx of players on its release earlier this year, however there were a few complaints as well, with many disappointed with areas such as map size and the 3v3 game format.
10 Chambers co-founder Hjalmar Vikström leaves after 10 years "Making games is hard.
