With No Man's Sky's fifth major update this year, Hello Games finally makes good on a pre-launch teaser: "Fly directly to neighboring stars for the first time" Here we are, a decade removed from the controversial launch of No Man's Sky, and developer Hello Games is still finding ways to improve its increasingly beloved space sandbox.

Behind the scenes, though, things with the next Mass Effect were on shaky ground for some time, reportedly, as the massive $55 billion EA buyout by Saudi Arabia's private investment fund, Jared Kushner's Affinity Partners, and private equity fund Silver Lake fell into place.
Leaked Mass Effect 5 trailer is being "re-scored" by one of the original trilogy's composers, so folks can get a taste of his musical vision for the game More Massively Effective tunes incoming One of the composers who contributed to the scores of the original Mass Effect trilogy has decided to re-soundtrack the Mass Effect Universe trailer which leaked following the game's cancellation and BioWare's closure. Sam Hulick's aim, aside from making this year's N7 Day a tiny bit less depressing if he can deliver as planned, is to share some of his "musical vision" for the RPG. "My plan is to release the re-scored Mass Effect Universe trailer for N7 Day," he wrote. BioWare's incredible legacy will continue as long as there are RPGs EA is shutting down the venerable studio, but its impact will persevere. For my column this week I was going to write about climbing all over monsters in Dragon Dogma 2's chilly Dark Arisen expansion, but then EA decided to finally murder BioWare after years of slowly poisoning it. So sadly I am pivoting to this eulogy. 2026 games: All the upcoming games Best PC games: Our all-time favorites Free PC games: Freebie fest Best FPS games: Finest gunplay Best RPGs: Grand adventures Best co-op games: Better together Fraser is the UK online editor and has actually met The Internet in person.

BioWare is dead, and my feelings are a strange cocktail of anger, sadness, and Jack’s Complete Lack of Surprise. The legendary RPG studio was bought by a private investment group earlier this year, and history shows that venture capital frequently kills what it touches, extracting whatever value out of it that it can before moving onto the next victim. Everyone knows Baldur’s Gate now on account of Larian Studios’ Game of the Year-winning, 10 out of 10 Baldur’s Gate 3 from 2023, but what younger gamers might not know is that the first two Baldur’s Gate RPGs were built by BioWare in the late ‘90s. It was the runner-up for IGN’s Best Role-Playing Game of 2002, finishing behind just one game: a little project you might have heard of called The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind.
This is an IGN opinion piece by Jackie Thomas, who has been playing and replaying Mass Effect for nearly 20 years now. I'm the sort of person who replays my favorite games whenever there's a big gap between releases. And those favorites usually end up being from the Mass Effect series, whether it's just the first game or a run through the entire original trilogy. So, for me, a Mass Effect 5 that captured the magic of the first three games has been something I've been looking forward to since before it was even announced in 2020.
A remaster of 2004's Shrek 2: The Game is on the way, according to an Xbox.com listing that seems to have been published too soon. The page for the unannounced game--which has since been removed--says the remaster will feature better textures, enhanced UI, and 4K resolution. Like the original PS2, Xbox, and GameCube game, the remaster lets you play solo or in co-op with up to three friends, locally or online. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hICuo4Yfp5E In addition to the updated graphics, the Shrek 2 remaster includes a new Photo Mode and Cheat Mode.
We know development on Diablo 5 is well underway, since the sequel was announced at this year's BlizzCon with a snazzy trailer. How far along is another question, since no gameplay was shown; however, production on the action-RPG's cinematics is now in motion. We know this thanks to Neil David Carter, the cinematics director for the Diablo series at Blizzard. MCU actor Simu Liu did an advert for Diablo 2: Resurrected, and they've had the likes of Debra Wilson and Ralph Ineson perform various roles in recent games.
Resident Evil Veronica is the fifth remake in the series, and probably the game that needed a remake the most. While I appreciate it finally being a reality after years of rumors, it feels too late. There have been another three Resident Evil remakes in recent years, and three original games in the same span of time. Resident Evil 2 remake is a respectable attempt at adapting a game from 1998 for younger players, and Resident Evil 3 remake is a very compromised version of a game that was originally more experimental.
Our Verdict The Razer Wolverine V4 Pro takes some of the best bits of the previous model and improves them, while keeping the same overall design. I'm a huge fan of the V3 Pro, but even I'm tempted by the new model's snappier thumbstick sensors, speedy response rates, and modular control-switching party tricks. For - Snappy, super-accurate controls - Up to 27-hour battery life - Easy customisation - Build quality out the wazoo Against - Expensive - No included charging stand - Erm… new charging port looks odd? When the GameSir G7 Pro Tri-Mode costs $80, the $200 price tag of Razer's new baby looks more than a little excessive.
Nvidia's RTX Spark makes for an impressive Arm-based gaming laptop but not one I'd recommend you buy just for PC gaming The performance is there, the experience is great, but the price is utterly punitive when you compare against dedicated gaming laptops. At 75 fps it is behind the 115 W RTX 5070 in the Blade 14 at 84 fps, but the chip is running almost 700 MHz slower and drawing down an average of 43 W over that run compared to 97 W for the Razer laptop. Yes, you can go and buy a 24 GB RTX Spark for $2,700, but that would be the same overall memory pool as a standard 16 GB laptop with an RTX 5070. Best 18-inch: Alienware 18 Area-51 Dave has been gaming since the days of Zaxxon and Lady Bug on the Colecovision, and code books for the Commodore Vic 20 (Death Race 2000!).
An oral history of the Tomb Raider game no one wanted to make Tomb Raider Chronicles, the fifth game for the original PlayStation, was greenlit for the sake of Eidos's bottom line, much to the annoyance of the design team The 30th anniversary of Tomb Raider is this month, and a new book delves into its late-1990s heyday. The Making of Tomb Raider: 1997-2000 by Daryl Baxter covers a difficult development period for the series. The below edited extract from the book centres on the development of Tomb Raider Chronicles, which was released on the original PlayStation in 2000. The team had thought they would be working on a PS2 Tomb Raider title after the release of 1999's Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation, but the higher-ups at Core Design and Eidos had other plans – and the idea of creating a fifth game so close to the launch of the PlayStation 2 didn't sound appealing to many involved.
At this year's New York Comic Con, I met with Square Enix to check out two of its upcoming RPG projects. One was Final Fantasy VII Revelation , a game firmly planted in the modern era of video games with top-of-the-line visuals and all the trimmings of a AAA, big-budget game. The other was Romancing Saga 3: Destinies United, a remake of a classic turn-based RPG from the mid-1990s. We'll find out when Romancing Saga 3: Destinies United launches in February for PlayStation 5, Switch, Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
The franchise might be a bit long in the tooth for some, but our Toy Story: Retro Roundup Review will give you a good idea if these classic Toy Story game titles still hold-up or are pure nostalgia bait. What is Toy Story: Retro Roundup? You get the original Toy Story 16-bit platformers, Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue, Toy Story Racers, and a couple of the Buzz Lightyear of Star Command games. The Real Fun Begins with Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue is a fantastic, kid-friendly PS1-era 3D platformer that puts you in control of Buzz Lightyear, vaguely following the plot of the movie, but with the added requirement of needing Pizza Planet tokens to continue the adventure of hunting for the missing Woody.
Ubisoft closing Trials developer RedLynx and cutting jobs in Singapore studio Latest round of cuts proposes the loss of 52 roles in Finland and 70 in Singapore Ubisoft has proposed the closure of Finnish studio RedLynx, creator of the Trial franchise, and major job losses at Ubisoft Singapore, lead developer of the ill-fated Skull and Bones. The cuts are the latest in the firm's ongoing restructuring, as it seeks to dramatically reduce costs and reform into a new Creative Houses structure. Both studios had been placed into the Creative Network in that organization, providing central support to other teams. In September, it announced that Creative House 2 would henceforth be known as Massive Entertainment, adopting the name of the Swedish studio that lead development of the Tom Clancy's The Division.franchise.
The former Burnout developers behind Star Wars: Galactic Racer reckon it's important to challenge players, because they're going to tune out otherwise. Star Wars: Galactic Racer is a tough game. Intentionally so, with Fuse Games CEO Matt Webster saying "we are asking way more out of players" this time around compared to the Burnout games that a majority of the team used to develop, because "modern gamers can manage a greater amount of cognitive load." Not only is the racing extremely fast, but you have a slate of aggressive racers trying to ram you off the track, and the slightest hesitation on a turn can cause you to launch into a corner and explode. We wanted to front that up so you feel like, 'a hard fought fifth place – yeah I'll take it.'" Webster describes a need for what he calls "light and shade," calling the segments where you play as Shade when you reach a new planet an "important aspect." He says: "You've got the light and shade between the super high intensity racing and the lower intensity immersion in Star Wars." How former Burnout devs came full circle for Star Wars: Galactic Racer to bring the edge back into racing games: "'Arcade' is not the absence of depth."

How former Burnout devs came full circle for Star Wars: Galactic Racer to bring the edge back into racing games: "'Arcade' is not the absence of depth" From the moment developer Fuse Games was founded in January 2023, the intent for the studio was to make a Star Wars racing game. As a studio founded by former Criterion Games developers (Criterion Games previously helmed the Burnout series and later worked on EA's 2015 Star Wars Battlefront and its sequel), fusing the team's arcade racing pedigree and previous experience working on Star Wars titles, as Fuse's creative director Kieran Crimmins says, was "a no-brainer").
The sim racer is almost five years old. A lot has been said of Sony’s failure to produce live service successes, but Gran Turismo 7 quietly bubbles away in the background as one of the PS5’s most popular first-party titles. The sim racer, which is nearing its fifth anniversary, will get the first phase of its unprecedented Spec 4 update imminently – and it’s all because the game continues to grow at an unexpected pace. Halloween's first paid DLC is coming on October 27 in the form of a new skin for the game's killer, Michael Myers, and it's pulling from a source you might not expect: Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers. A free update on the same day will also add a fifth map, The Tower Farm, inspired by a location in the same film. There's also a second skin coming for Big Mike, borrowing from his look in the legacy sequel Halloween (2018). Survivor mains also have new things to look forward to, including two new characters, Michelle and Eugene, as well as Civilian Costumes Pack 1, which includes 14 outfits--one for each survivor character--and 42 colorings, or "tints." The new survivors will also go for $10, though that's for the pair, not for each of them, while the new styles and colors will be--you guessed it--$10 for the set.
