You might remember 2021's Umurangi Generation , developed by M&amacrori studio Origame Digital. It placed its focus on its first-person photography system as much as its very direct anti-colonial and anti-neoliberal criticism, stemming partly from the Australian government's mishandling of COVID and the bushfires that spread across the country in 2020. Origame's second game, the newly-released Penguin Colony , is just as direct in its anti-colonial theming, with its target being the ongoing Palestinian genocide by Israel, and the games industry at large for its silence.
"This act is intended to demonstrate solidarity with Palestine" - Umurangi Generation studio blocks new game Penguin Colony from being sold in Israel "Developers have the right to control where their games are sold." Origame Digital, the studio behind 2020's critically acclaimed Umurangi Generation, has just released a new game but banned it from being sold in Israel. Penguin Colony is a Lovecraftian horror game experienced through the eyes of a penguin, based on author H.P. Lovecraft's story At the Mountains of Madness. Fellow Traveller, the game's publisher, confirmed that Penguin Colony is not on sale in Israel in a Steam community thread.
