Money talks louder than guns in Wardogs, and despite its flaws, the genre-blending FPS has me in a chokehold
Blizzard explains why it's revealing StarCraft and Diablo 5 release dates so far away: "We want to convey confidence in some of our biggest bets" "We're a Blizzard that's going to ship, and ship big, and ship on time." Blizzard uncharacteristically announced two games at the weekend with release dates surprisingly far away. One was Diablo 5, which Blizzard plans to release in spring 2029, and the other was the much-rumoured StarCraft open-world shooter, releasing 2030. There was more than a decade between the releases of Diablos 2 and 3, but there will be only six years between 4 and 5 (which has caused concern about whether there will be any more Diablo 4 expansions). Besides Diablo 5, the StarCraft shooter, and World of Warcraft Forever, Blizzard also announced a Diablo Netflix animated series - alongside broader plans to do similar with many of its brands - a brand new Warcraft 3 campaign decades after the game's release, a new Overwatch hero (and tease of what to expect in next year's big expansion-like release), a new Diablo 4 class, and outlined the next big patch for World of Warcraft's Midnight era.

Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve brand director Kazutoki Kono joked that developers spent so long working on Tasha that she ended up being the “most expensive character” in the entire game. Kono visited China for the first time to answer questions in a group interview with the media following a hands-on demo for the game, where he opened up about how popular Tasha has become over the last few months. The pink-haired pilot is a fan favorite, and the game hasn’t even come out yet; set to release on October 2, oodles of future players are already obsessed with Tasha Severskaya, a former “star pilot in Yuktobania's acrobatic team, Zvezda.” Tasha hopped aboard the Endurance to capture publicity footage, but the ensuing war kept her on the vessel, and now she’s part of the Joker Flight squad. Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve releases on October 2, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam.

Double Fine's famous game jam returns with 26 new ideas and a promise to make Brutal Legend 2, if its Kickstarter stretch goal is met The Amnesia Fortnight Kickstarter blew past its goal in just two days, but getting a new Brutal Legend is going to be a whole different pile of money One happy upside to Double Fine's newly-regained independence is the return of Amnesia Fortnight, the semi-regular in-house game jam in which everyone stops what they're doing and spends two weeks pitching and developing prototypes for new games. The 2026 edition of the event—seemingly the first since Microsoft acquired Double Fine in 2019—launched a Kickstarter campaign on August 31, and its $400,000 goal has already been surpassed. At the $15 tier, for instance, your vote only counts for half, but at $30 you get a full vote—and if you go up to $60, your vote is doubled—a single vote cast counts for two! No, not really: Never say never and all that, but Shenmue 3 was (and as far as I know still is) the most-funded videogame project in Kickstarter history, and it finished with $6.3 million.
Good news for folks hoping that Orbitals would be another A Way Out, It Takes Two and Split Fiction type of co-op multiplayer game for the Switch 2. And yes, it also is a prime example of a love for the 1980s anime aesthetic. However, while there are some challenging segments and situations that can make a pair feel really smart or competent for completing them, some narrative and design choices keep it from perhaps feeling as mechanically tight or fascinating as some others in the genre. Orbitals gives Switch 2 owners a new It Takes Two and Split Fiction style co-op game that also experiments with bringing the 2D 1980s anime aesthetic into a 3D world.

The first physical PC game I remember playing shows what Sony is thoughtlessly destroying Me and a bunch of big-box PC games are going to go full boomer or prove a very important point. Weird Weekend is our regular Saturday column where we celebrate PC gaming oddities: peculiar games, strange bits of trivia, forgotten history. Pop back every weekend to find out what Jeremy, Josh and Rick have become obsessed with this time, whether it's the canon height of Thief's Garrett or that time someone in the Vatican pirated Football Manager. You might have caught it in the news: Sony infuriated absolutely everyone recently with a single blog post (usually it's me who does that) announcing that, come the big year 2028, PlayStation owners can wave goodbye to physical media.

Our main character is called Hawks, explicitly as an homage to Howard Hawks, who's the director of movies like His Girl Friday or Only Angels Have Wings." The latter, about a group of pilots in the 1930s, is a major touchstone for Zero Company, which focuses on a mercenary strike force during the Clone Wars who put aside their ideological differences to shoot people for money. "We hope that's recognized by the audience and see that we're trying to honor this great legacy of the genre of strategy games while picking our battles about where we must step up." Star Wars Zero Company is out on PS5, Xbox Series X and PC on August 27, 2026.
You should really get Ace Combat 7 while it's 80% off on Steam, because AC8 might be one of the year's best games Now this is dogfighting. Here are some other things I like with Ace Combat 7 vibes: 🔹Game: Zone of the Enders 2: The Second Runner 🔹Anime: Macross Plus 🔹Anime: Area 88 While the planes are all intricately modeled and the game's interface has a sort of militaristic seriousness to it, the tone of Ace Combat is gloriously melodramatic. AC7's current Steam deal ends in the next 22 hours of this writing, and is $15 (£12) including a Top Gun Maverick DLC tie-in with a bunch of cool planes—though heads up that using them early in the campaign will trivialize some of the challenge. You can get a Steam key even cheaper elsewhere, though: Fanatical has the base game on sale for just $8.69 (86% off) for the next 11 days.

Games for Change report aims to ground parental gaming concerns in "evidence rather than fear" Raising Good Gamers white paper offers roadmap to better support families playing video games Non-profit organisation Games for Change (G4C) has published a white paper exploring how parents approach video games, and how to shift their focus away from "fear-driven narratives focused on addiction, violence, and excessive screen time." Authored by G4C research director Dr Rachel Kowert, 'Raising Good Gamers: What Families Need to Know About Video Games and Well-Being' seeks to highlight how parents can positively engage with their children playing video games. The Raising Good Gamers project provides support and resources for parents, and is backed by Tencent Games. As Kowert summarised, the paper's goal is "not to eliminate parental concerns, but to ground them in evidence rather than fear." "Parents are often not concerned about the right things," Kowert told GamesIndustry.biz. "So let's talk about what we don't have to be worried about so we can focus our energy more efficiently." "We're focusing on parents because they are an underserved group in this ecosystem.
There's a reason Nintendo keeps remaking Star Fox 64. The N64 iteration of the rail shooter--at the time, the second Star Fox release--remains the apex of the franchise: a genuinely fantastic game that still holds up and stands the test of time. Subsequent sequels that have attempted to recapture the magic have floundered by comparison. This latest iteration, simply titled "Star Fox" for what I can only assume is meant to be a soft reboot, plays just as great as you remember and looks even better.
