Few movies can truly say they hit the ground running, but Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil is among them. And that’s a good thing, because after so many Resident Evil movies, every new one needs a running start to have a chance of making it. We can’t talk about a Resident Evil movie without doing a little bit of table-setting first, though. Resident Evil debuted on PlayStation in 1996 and coined the name for an emerging game genre: Survival Horror.
'But we can collectively determine how it's developed and how it’s used.'

Ubisoft is 'testing' making its games far less annoying to launch on Steam Ubisoft Connect, your time is up. Playing a Ubisoft game from Steam usually requires installing and running Ubisoft Connect, which is the publisher's own desktop launcher. It's annoying to use one launcher—Steam—to access another launcher—Ubisoft Connect—in order to play an Assassin's Creed game, but it's been that way for years, and Ubisoft isn't alone in insisting on it: EA and Rockstar both do it too. But it looks like Ubisoft is changing tack: starting with Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, for some reason, the publisher is "testing" doing away with the launcher altogether, though software will still run in the background for "cross-progression, cross-play, player safety, challenges and rewards" via a new Ubisoft Connect Services Steam tool.
Ubisoft games on Steam may soon no longer require the pesky Connect launcher, according to an announcement post that's weirdly tough to pin down Connecting the dots Ubisoft are planning to start testing a new tool that'll allow Prince of Persia The Lost Crown Steam players to access features only usually available via the publishers' Connect launcher without actually having to have said launcher installed. That's according to a Steam announcement post which only appears to be visible to folks who already own a copy of The Lost Crown on Valve's storefront. According to a version of the alleged post shared on Reddit, which I've yet to be able to very for myself despite scouring various bits of Steam for evidence of it, Ubisoft are using The Lost Crown to start "testing a new Ubisoft Connect Services Steam tool that keeps Ubisoft game features such as cross-progression, cross-play, player safety, challenges and rewards, among others, without requiring the Ubisoft Connect PC launcher to be installed or launched." "This first version is an initial step toward a smoother and more streamlined launch experience on Steam," the post continued. Ubisoft Connect Services will progressively evolve and roll out to more Ubisoft games on Steam in the future." Finally another launcher out of steam by u/NostalgiaKeeper007 in Steam I've reached out to Ubisoft for comment.
Australian Steam users are now unable to access any age-restricted content on their account without having a credit card thanks to the introduction of the government's Online Safety Act. This is in line with the Australian government's Online Safety Act 2021, which noted that any "app distribution services" must have age assurance requirements in place by yesterday. This means the user will not be able to access the storefronts of any games rated MA15+ or R18+ by the Australian Classification Board, which includes games like Cyberpunk 2077, Resident Evil Requiem, and The Last of Us Part 2 without proper verification. Over on the Australia subreddit, one user notes "I'm 43, and have had my steam account since it first started," while another adds, "So basically, I can't see any remotely mature game on my 20-odd year old account because I'm financially sound enough to not have a credit card?" Users note that credit card use is not as widespread in the country, with one saying, "This is so USA centric of Steam, they just assume everyone has a credit card." On top of that, users with disabilities are reporting that since they are on Australia's Disability Support Pension they are unable to get a credit card, and thus are locked out of accessing these games on Steam unless another option reveals itself.
Following the big Steam leak that revealed achievement lists and more for upcoming games, Microsoft has officially released the list of Achievements for Gears of War: E-Day, and there is a Shrek/Smash Mouth-inspired one among them. Players can unlock an achievement called "HEY NOW, YOU'RE AN ALL STAR..." by accumulating 25,000 kills in the Versus multiplayer mode. For anyone just catching up, 2001's Shrek famously featured the Smash Mouth song, "All Star," The most difficult Achievement to unlock appears to be "Dead Serious," which requires players to 100% the campaign on the highest difficulty, Insane, reach 25,000 kills in Versus, achieve max player level, and max out four classes. 75 Dead Serious 100% Campaign on Insane, 25,000 kills in Versus, max Player Level, and max 4 classes.
Why the world needs a Club Penguin successor – that isn't Roblox Stephen MacDonald, founder and CEO of Magic Potion Games, explains how Imagine Island will fill the gap left by Club Penguin, with a firm focus on child safety Club Penguin – the Disney-owned, Flash-based MMO, which ran from 2005 to 2017 – was a formative experience for a generation of children. Stephen MacDonald, who was a senior manager at Disney from 2012 to 2015, says that Club Penguin had over 300 million registered users at its peak. But the demise of Adobe Flash put paid to this penguin paradise, and a mobile-focused successor, Club Penguin Island, failed to take off – it shut down in December 2018, around a year and a half after its launch. Everyone could jump on easily, and I think that was part of the secret formula." The rise of Roblox In the years since Club Penguin's demise, Roblox has grown spectacularly, rising from 13.7 million daily active users in Q4 2018 to 144 million in Q4 2025, according to Statista.

While I’m a fan of the Stalker games, there’s something about the more linear nature and, ironically, on-rails experience that the Metro games deliver. With a tense atmosphere, mutated creatures, and factions split within the underground of a demolished Russia, the Metro series might be some of my favorite FPS games of all time—and with Metro 2039 almost here, now’s the chance to catch up on the series for less than $9. That’s all three of the games released so far. If you’re looking to give it a try, you can grab the Metro Redux Bundle, which includes the remastered versions of Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light together for just $2.99 at Fanatical , while Metro Exodus Gold Edition is just $5.99 at Fanatical , making them 90% and 85% off, respectively.
The “hidden movement” genre of board games is one of my favorites and I still remember where I discovered this type of game. I was watching Wil Wheaton’s “Tabletop” series, when the game of the week was “Fury of Dracula”, a game where one person assumes the role of Dracula, spreading terror and attempting to grow his vampire forces around the globe, while the others are vampire hunters, try to track him down and drive a stake through his heart. Thankfully, at long last, the good folks at Avalon Hill have brought it back in a brand new 5th Edition, and fans around the world can once again hunt down dracula during their next board game night. For those familiar with either the Fantasy Flight Games’ 3rd or WizKids’ 4th editions, the 5th edition is largely the same but for everyone else, Fury of Dracula is a one-versus-many with one person playing as the count and up to four other players controlling the hunters.

Stalker 2 studio is raffling keychains made from a shot-down Russian helicopter to raise funds for mine removal in the real-world Chornobyl Exclusion Zone Other prizes include patches, t-shirts, and game keys—GSC Game World hopes to raise at least $100,000 for the effort. Stalker 2 studio GSC Game World has joined with Ukrainian charity United24 on a new fundraising initiative that aims to raise $100,000 to help fund efforts to remove mines and other explosive devices from the real-world Chornobyl Exclusion Zone. "Particular attention is being paid to creating safe routes for firefighting and rescue teams, allowing them to respond to fires in the Zone more quickly, without putting their lives at risk from mines." Clearing mines is its own reward—the United Nations reported in 2025 that civilian injuries and deaths caused by landmines had reached their highest level in four years, in part due to funding shortfalls for demining efforts—but anyone who kicks in a minimum of $10 to GSC's fundraising campaign will have a shot at some swag, including patches, t-shirts, Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl Ultimate Edition keys, and a pretty groovy collectible statuette. Our goal is simple: ensure that danger exists only within the game, while real Ukrainian soil becomes safe once again as quickly as possible." GSC Game World's first collaboration with United24 raised more than $120,000 for the Bring Light Back campaign to provide generators for schools in Ukraine, which suffers from frequent power failures and blackouts as a result of the ongoing war.
A 77-year-old volunteer teacher was arrested after reportedly striking a young student in a dispute over Pokémon cards. A statement posted to the Dothan Police Department website by Chief William E. That day, Dothan Police school resource officers responded to reports of an altercation between a student under the age of 10 and a volunteer teacher at the Jerry Lee Faine Elementary School in Dothan, Alabama. And in May, a Florida man was arrested and charged with burglary and theft of goods totalling more than $10,000 after reportedly breaking into a card shop using a chainsaw in West Palm Beach.

Warhammer Age of Sigmar Deathmaster starts with Vihneek in a precarious position.

Okay, I wasn't expecting 'Rainbow Six XCOM' to be one of my favourite Gamescom demos And yet, here we are. Hard experience has taught me that I am not, in my heart, a Rainbow Six Siege guy. The series' hardcore-ish squad-based first-person gameplay just never jibed with me going all the way back to 1998, when a five-year-old Josh got shot to death by eco-terrorists in about 0.3 seconds and promptly decided to play something else. 2026 games: All the upcoming games Best PC games: Our all-time favorites Free PC games: Freebie fest Best FPS games: Finest gunplay Best RPGs: Grand adventures Best co-op games: Better together One of Josh's first memories is of playing Quake 2 on the family computer when he was much too young to be doing that, and he's been irreparably game-brained ever since.
Three US Democratic senators condemned both Discord and Roblox, saying that the voice-chat and game-creation platforms "deserve their day in court" instead of hiding behind private arbitration methods as it relates to child safety. According to an August 31 Bloomberg report , Democratic senators Dick Durbin (Illinois), Kirsten Gillibrand (New York), and Richard Blumenthal (Connecticut) have filed an amicus brief on August 28 urging the courts to keep the myriad lawsuits Discord and Roblox are facing public. "Instead of hiding behind the veil of arbitration, Roblox and Discord can be held accountable for their misconduct: misleading parents into thinking their platforms are safe and failing to protect children from sexual abuse," the senators wrote collectively. This includes paying $12 million to do things like adding facial recognition and age-verification systems.
