How recent laws impact game design, from in-game chat to notifications How game developers can stay on the right side of current and upcoming legislation affecting the industry 2026 is already proving to be the year when the reality of video game regulation hits home for the industry. Games studios are suddenly confronting a host of new and impending regulations, and it can feel an impossible task to sift through the alphabetti spaghetti of laws, rules and guidelines (OSA, DMCCA, DFA, DSA, AI Act, CPC…) in order to know what this actually means for the day-to-day practicalities of developing and releasing games. Kabam, Nexters and My.Games recently fell afoul of this in the UK and Netherlands with Marvel Contest of Champions, Hero Wars: Alliance RPG and Rush Royale: Tower Defense TD. I thought the Midnight Ramen Shop demo might scratch the Papa's Pizzeria itch, but it actually just made me realise I could never run a ramen shop after getting everyone's orders wrong on purpose Sometimes you have to embrace the chaos. The Prisoning: Fletcher's Quest Steam page Release: February 11 Developer: Elden Pixels This short 'n' sweet Metroidvania might not have stood out to me if it weren't for the studio responsible: Elden Pixels earlier games, Alwa's Legacy and Alwa's Awakening, are beautiful tributes to fantasy pixel art adventures of yore and I highly recommend them. Shadows of the Afterland Steam page Release: February 10 Developer: Aruma Studios Shadows of the Afterland is an early '90s style point 'n' click adventure set in 1960s Madrid and also, an afterlife version of that city.

If you've picked up Tarsier Studios' co-op horror game Reanimal on PC, you might be disappointed about the game's lack of a Friend Pass, and you aren't alone in that if Steam reviews are anything to go by. A quick look at Reanimal's Steam reviews shows that the game is currently sitting at a Mixed rating (at time of writing) across over 300 reviews, and that many of the negative impressions point to the absence of a Friend Pass as justification. As a quick reminder, the Friend Pass is a system by which players can buy a game, then enjoy it alongside a friend who doesn't own said game. The Friend Pass does appear to be available on PS5 and Switch 2, so it's PC (and Xbox Series X|S) players who are missing out here, even if they do want to play with their buddies on those platforms.
The Vulkan-based translation layer D7VK has version 1.3 out now, which officially expands it to also cover Direct3D 5 support for running more games on Linux. So now it supports Direct3D 5, 6 and 7. - Also starting with v1.3 logging verbosity and log file path environment variables are prefixed with D7VK_ , to allow for better logging segregation between D7VK and DXVK.- Thanks to @CkNoSFeRaTU, an obscure FPU mode setup bug, that affected all D3D6/5 titles, was spotted and fixed. A few of the titles noted to work well with it include: - Carmageddon II: Carpocalypse Now - Tomb Raider II - Mortal Kombat 4 - Nightmare Creatures - N.I.C.E 2 - Mobil 1 Rally Championship - Deathtrap Dungeon - Lands of Lore III Pictured - Carmageddon II: Carpocalypse Now Source: GitHub if anyone have trouble enable direct3d with mortal kombat 4, in my case are needed uninstall nglide first 😄 Last edited by mrdeathjr on 9 Feb 2026 at 12:16 pm UTC I think the original was pure software rendering, anyway, but by the time 2 came out I think we either had a Voodoo Banshee (slightly nerfed Voodoo 2 plus 2D card built in, no VGA loopback required!) or a Voodoo 3 3000 with this then newfangled 'AGP' interface...
