Our Verdict Modern Warfare 4 is the bar that this series should regularly aspire to, and a reminder that Call of Duty benefits when it actually tries to change. PC Gamer's got your back There is a new game titled "Call of Duty" every year, but it's not every year that Call of Duty is really back. What is it The next Call of Duty from the original creators of Call of Duty Release date October 23, 2026 Expect to pay $70/£60 Publisher Activision Blizzard Developer Infinity Ward Reviewed on RTX 5090, Ryzen 7 9800X3D 4.7 GHz, 64GB RAM Multiplayer Up to 60 players Steam Deck Unsupported Link Official site The tireless schedule of Activision's load-bearing FPS has resulted in more bad games than good as of late—Modern Warfare 3 was an expansion-sized sequel rushed out the door, Black Ops 6 was a step back for multiplayer, and its immediate followup Black Ops 7 was clocked as superfluous and uninteresting even by rain-or-shine fans. These back-to-back games, shouldered by Treyarch, Sledgehammer, and Raven, had cracks and compromises that suggested the Call of Duty machine just can't keep up with both "good" and "fast" anymore.

Eagle-eyed Rockstar fans have noticed camera crews recording convoys of flashy GTA 6-themed cars in Miami, creating speculation over a new live-action trailer. Rockstar Games has been conquering the city of Miami over the last few weeks as it ramps up to the release of GTA 6, which is set in a fictional version of Miami called Vice City. As a result, Rockstar has plastered all kinds of ads around the area, sent in a Vice City blimp to fly over Florida, and announced unique celebrations like a Vice City-themed NBA game with the Miami Heat in November. Poll 100 people on the scariest game they've ever played. Morin remembered potential partners telling him that they'd "rather invest $50,000 in 10 mobile games than $500,000 in [Outlast]." Ultimately, the Canada Media Fund (CMF), a publicly funded investment program meant to support homegrown media projects across Canada, helped bring Outlast to fruition. We were in a sprint to release the game before running out of money." Morin remembered potential partners telling him that they'd "rather invest $50,000 in 10 mobile games than $500,000 in [Outlast]." No publisher materialized, but the work continued, and eventually the team felt it could get the game to the finish line without an outside publisher, so Red Barrels did exactly that, though Morin admitted the team had no experience with that side of making video games. Once you have people coming for the food, then you can maybe hope to sell them $200 bottles of wine." Recently, The Outlast Trials quadrupled its personal-best Steam concurrent-player record , exceeding 120,000 players thanks to a hefty Steam discount, players' desire for scary games to play around Halloween , and a surge in China specifically.
What we've been playing - "I simply didn't know if a first-person shooter could work as a Soulslike" A few of the things that have us hooked this week. 17th October Hello and welcome back to our regular feature where we write a little about the games we've been playing. This week, Connor plays a classic, and ticks it off his bucket list; Sherif isn't sure about a first-person shooter foray into Soulslikes; Matt visits a South Pacific island volcano and Jim Henson's Labyrinth, all in one game; and Bertie discovers that playing D&D with kids is enormously entertaining. There's a little bit of everything across its main courses and dirt-cheap DLC: holes situated around 1950s-style Hollywood movie lots; courses inspired by Atlantis, Jules Verne, and Mount Olympus and its incumbent Greek Gods; matches winding precariously up and down red rock mesas, and even jaunts though Jim Henson's Labyrinth.
Our Verdict Asus' 20th anniversary edition of the Xbox ROG Ally X is as bougie as the $300 price bump implies. For - OLED - No more stick drift - Great thermals Against - $300 more than an already pricey handheld - No performance uplift on the Xbox Ally X PC Gamer's got your back The Asus ROG 20th anniversary lineup has been interesting. The actual top dog, the MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ CG3EM and its Intel Arc G3 Extreme processor, ekes out better performance with anywhere between a 20-40% performance uplift in our game testing, but it's also just under 40% more expensive in the US. View Original View Original View Original View Original View Original View Original View Original The new OLED screen goes up to a peak brightness of 1,400 nits, which is bright enough to even bring this bad boy outdoors, and with the Lenovo Legion Go 2's 8.8-inch OLED panel going up to 1,000 nits and the OneXPlayer 3's 8.8-inch AMOLED display going up to 1,100 nits (though these two go up to 144 Hz), I'd pick the Asus model out of the three.
"Some people like it, some people are annoyed by it": Substructure may look like Factorio, but it changes the automation game in some fundamental ways Exhibit #1: its fields of alien skin and bone In many respects, as someone who has played a lot of automation games, Substructure is very familiar. It begins with you landing on the surface of an alien world and using nothing but pluck, the tools on your UI, and the schematics in your tech tree to construct a sprawling factory that claws up resources from the planet and transforms them into materials and components to build ever bigger machines. The world is more than its surface. Dubious Designs' CTO Stu Taylor, who created the fiendishly difficult Ultracube mod for Factorio, says the lifts are one of the ideas that convinced him to create Substructure – "It's a big scheduling and constraints puzzle that would not have been possible in the Factorio engine." Making a new game, rather than modding an existing one, also lets Taylor explore puzzles and challenges for players who aren't already attuned to complexities of Factorio.
One of the big criticisms leveled against Starfield at launch was its lack of seamless planetary landing. Spacefarers can essentially pick a landing zone and go through a glorified loading screen to reach their destination, but they couldn't fly into a planet's atmosphere and land directly themselves a la No Man's Sky. Frederik Wessberg today posted a clip of the "Seamless Landings" mod that's still in-progress, showing how a Starfield ship can go from the void of space to the surface of a planet "without any loading screens." Starfield - Seamless Landings without loading screens (teaser) - YouTube "I've worked on this thing for roughly half a year at this point, and finally it's starting to look and feel ready enough for me to show it to you," Wessberg writes in the video's description. "And during your trip to the surface, you'll be flying through real 3D layers of volumetric clouds, driven by climate data and weather systems, thunderstorms and lightning, auroras around the poles, airglow above the night-side horizon, physically-based atmospheric scattering based on the actual atmospheric composition the game data provides." Wessberg initially thought the mod would be a "fun, small project," but quickly ran into some trouble because "planet rendering in space in vanilla Starfield is very limited: A planet is represented by a texture, maybe a moving cloud layer, and maybe an atmosphere." Trying to land on a planet would essentially be akin to landing on a "flat texture." To get the job done, Wessberg "had to completely reimplement Starfield's planet rendering in space in 3D," but "thankfully, Starfield is actually amazingly physically accurate, and in many ways a true space simulator - it just doesn't ever reveal this to the player." Starfield's seamless landing mod will be completely free on NexusMods when it's eventually ready.

Nintendo showed roughly 20 minutes of footage from the Switch 2 remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time in the Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct this morning. Producer Eiji Aonuma said this project is largely a faithful remake of the N64 classic, reborn on Switch 2 with modern controls and a strong focus on detail. Here are 40 changes I saw when comparing Ocarina of Time on Switch 2 to the N64 version, from things as large as the art style all the way to small menu changes and UI differences. No Law was one of the most exciting games I saw at Gamescom: a cyberpunk immersive sim that solves one of Deus Ex's biggest problems Big hairy guy, on the case. Sometimes you see a game and can tell that the developers just get it. Having seen it first hand at Gamescom, it has quickly become one of my most anticipated games from the show. It's a first person FPS set in a cyberpunk setting.

I barely remember the last time Nvidia mentioned gaming at all in an earnings call Gone, but definitely not forgotten. When I hear 'Nvidia,' I still think 'gaming'. But with the data centre segment bringing in $89 billion this quarter alone, accounting for almost 93% of the company's total revenue, it's not hard to see where the company's priorities now lie, and why. Instead, this has apparently been bundled up into the Edge Computing segment, which itself made $7.2 billion.

I've seen much more of 1666: Amsterdam, and the witchy game by the creator of Assassin's Creed has some surprising ideas Noa's arc. 1666: Amsterdam returned to the public eye this year after a protracted 15 year conception that involved legal battles, rewritten concepts, secret publishers, and finally: an actual game. Suffice to say, this is the game Patrice Désilets has wanted to make for a very long time - Désilets being the original creator of Assassin's Creed and more recently the mind behind primate evolution game Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey. But the return of 1666: Amsterdam - developed by Désilets' Panache Digital studio, which he co-founded in 2014 - was marred by a 'mixed' reception to its short playable prologue, released in June on Steam.
