Discussing 20 years of Company of Heroes with the team carrying its torch into the future "I'm really pleased that we're here, able to support the games, and able to celebrate this 20th anniversary." I still remember the PC Gamer cover from October 2006 featuring Company of Heroes as the vanguard of the "RTS Revolution." This was back in the day that I would walk down to the local grocery store to grab each new physical issue off of the news stand. I was already failing trigonometry. After the announcement that Dawn of War 4 was being developed by German studio King Art Games—I was later told Relic passed on it as they simply didn't have the bandwidth to take it on alongside other ongoing projects, mostly related to Company of Heroes—I was wondering if there even would be a Relic anymore. But in the meantime, they have split from Sega and become independent again. 2026 games: All the upcoming games Best PC games: Our all-time favorites Free PC games: Freebie fest Best FPS games: Finest gunplay Best RPGs: Grand adventures Best co-op games: Better together Leana Hafer is a freelancer and lifelong PC gamer with a specialty in strategy, RPGs, horror, and survival games.
id co-founder John Carmack revisits Doom at QuakeCon: 'Still a great game after all these years!' Not a controversial opinion, by any means. At this year's QuakeCon in Gaylord, Texas, a number of id Software's OGs and founders are in attendance for a retrospective talk and reunion, and it looks like legendary programmer John Carmack took some time to refamiliarize himself with the reason for the season. "I sat down to try the Evercade Doom port, and before I knew it, I was on level four, and realizing that I had forgotten where all the keycards were," Carmack wrote on X, "The Everything App." "It wound up taking me 15 minutes each on level four and five. Still a great game after all these years!" It certainly sounds like Carmack's a little rusty: E1M4 and M5 have par times of 1:30 and 2:45 respectively.
