High on Life 2 review - skateboard-powered sequel is much easier to like than its painful predecessor Consider our differences squanched. I cannot stress how much I detested High on Life when its loser-ass jiggled out of its mum's basement in a suffocating cloud of weed-smoke. Squanch Games' 2022 FPS was a cynical, jabbering mess that overcompensated for its limp gunplay with meandering, interminable stoner humour. While a big improvement, I still think High on Life 2's humour falls short of games like Psychonauts 2 or Thank Goodness You're Here.
There’s something immediately inviting about Seashell Island. Its colorful biomes, offbeat residents, and puzzle-packed ruins make it feel like a dream destination for any tropical vacation. But soon after Under the Island begins, any rest and relaxation quickly turns into a mission to save the island from slipping away entirely. In Under the Island , a new 2D action-adventure RPG out of Slime King Games, you play as Nia, a girl who moves to Seashell Island with her archeologist parents while they study the island’s mysterious ruins.

ShipShaper is a chill boat builder with a demo you can use to make sleek sloops or beastly barges And every type of vessel between those two extremes The fine frigate which serves as the featured image for this article is called the Stately Gunwale. That's not a name I, the boat's creator, gave it. It's a name ShipShaper's demo automatically assigned my vessel when I picked the set of colours I wished it to be painted. Quite frankly, I doubt I could have dreamed up a more fitting moniker for my deliberate attempt to fling something funky onto the high seas.
Rogue Point aims to prove old school is the new cool with a back-to-basics shooter The developers behind Black Mesa return with a retro-flavoured co-op shooter that thumbs its nose at the bloated complexity of modern online games "We wanted something that you could pick up and play with friends," says Brad Sheremeta, marketing and community manager for Crowbar Collective, when describing the studio's new game, Rogue Point. Out in Early Access today, the co-operative PvE (player versus environment) shooter is a response to the overly complicated, time-sink nature of modern titles in the genre. "Right now, you're seeing a lot of these games that are 'sweaty games' that you have to grind at, especially first person shooters," says Sheremeta. And beyond that, the retro, no-frills nature of Rogue Point fits a gap in the market for titles that echo the simpler times of old – like the hugely successful Warhammer Space Marine 2, which won players over with its unashamedly Xbox 360-era gameplay.
Romeo is a Dead Man's most beguiling spectacle is its astral fish tank menu Carp blimey Romeo is a Dead Man, Grasshopper Manufacture’s eccentric new hack 'n' slash, is out today. I especially like its main menu screen, a strangely hypnotic fish tank in which captive planets float alongside a coral ballet trophy, and the menu’s text strings try to escape when you’re not looking. Using boring old words to capture the ethereal atmosphere of this screen, which is something like a halfway-lucid dream of visiting Brighton Sea Life after a hearty dinner of paint, may be difficult. The fish, for instance, has transcended the need to swim, instead disintegrating and reforming itself around different corners of the tank.
Romeo is a Dead Man review – an offbeat action game that finds its groovy, gory rhythm What fight through yonder Windows breaks? Like the summonable, energy-shooting ghoul I cultivated on my spaceship’s zombie farm, Romeo is a Dead Man is a bit of a grower. After an iffy start that exhibits plenty of Grasshopper Manufacture weirdness but not much Grasshopper Manufacture charm, its disparate parts do eventually coalesce, forming a lean yet muscular hack 'n' slash with a playful talent for mixing up its mediums. At what is usually an easy 1440p, my RTX 3090 – running Ultra settings with Quality-level DLSS 4 – couldn’t reliably hold 60fps, with drops to 30fps and sometimes even lower in some Sub-Space areas.
What's on your bookshelf: Nyamakop and Relooted's Marcia Shange read-only Hello reader who is also a reader! It's finally time for another edition of our thrillingly erratic column on game developers and their bestest books. This week, we're having our ears bent by Marcia Shange, chief operating officer of South Africa, Johannesburg-based developers Nyamakop, creators of puzzle platformer Semblance and the forthcoming postcolonial heist 'em up Relooted. Apart from The Burning God which is the last book in The Poppy War Series, I’m planning to read the Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson.
Wonder getting the Switch 2 Edition + expansion treatment in March feels like Nintendo making the correct call, and I couldn't think of a better game to be getting that bit more attention on the new system. Each one costs $24.99 and they all launch on March 26, the same day the new content goes live. You can currently grab the standard Switch release for $46.99 at Woot, then upgrade to the Switch 2 Edition via the eShop for $19.99 once the expansion drops. That brings the total to $64.99 for the full Switch 2 experience, saving $15 in the process.
