Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy faces a difficult balancing act. Can it move away from its predecessors' terrifying waves of rats and still deliver a supernatural terror that ties into rewarding environmental puzzles? Can it ditch the series' sibling protagonists and still tell a moving story focused on two people learning to lean on one another? Set in 1334, about 15 years prior to the first two A Plague Tale games, Resonance follows Sophia instead of series protagonist Amicia de Rune.
For a series about light and dark, it's appropriate that Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is a spinoff that's trying to escape the main entries' shadow. Developer Asobo Studio have dropped much that is familiar to explore exactly what a Plague Tale story can be. Resonance doesn't feature series protagonists Amicia and Hugo. It is set 16 years before the events of the last game, long before the siblings flee across wartorn medieval France, hunted by the soldiers of the Inquisition.
The highlights of Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026 Chinese and Korean studios made their presence felt, but The Witcher 3 stole the show GamesIndustry.biz was at Gamescom Opening Night Live on Tuesday night, the eighth instalment of the digital showcase. The hall was packed, without an empty seat in sight, and there were plenty of gaming celebrities in attendance: Xbox head Asha Sharma could be seen near the front, gamely forming an 'X' with her arms as the camera panned over her. It was a sign of things to come, with a strong presence from Chinese and Korean companies in this year's Opening Night Live, which included titles like Cinder City and Like or Die from NC, PUBG: Ded.Net from Krafton, Ananta and Sea of Remnants from Netease, Zoopunk from Ti Games, and Tides of Annihilation from the Chengdu-based Eclipse Glow Games, not to mention another Hoyoverse title in the form of the life-simulation game Petit Planet. Among the indie standouts were Lofsöng from Unrelated Studio, Dust: Origins from Airship Syndicate, and Daniel Mullins' wild-looking Pony Island 2: Panda Circus, which is coming on April 27, 2027.
Twenty-year-old boxer Tarona Taafaki has secured the first Commonwealth Games medal in Tuvalu’s history, winning bronze in the women’s 75kg category at Glasgow 2026 despite losing her only bout of the tournament. Taafaki was one of just five entrants in the category, meaning she received an automatic bye straight into the semi-finals. Taafaki’s semi-final loss still earns her bronze In the semi-final she faced India’s Lovlina Borgohain and lost by a unanimous points decision, dropping every round on all three judges’ scorecards. According to World Boxing, Taafaki said she felt honoured to represent her country on such a large stage, adding that “probably 95% of the audience don’t know where my country is.” Tuvalu is the world’s fourth-smallest country, with a population of just over 10,000 spread across ten square miles.
I adore the first A Plague Tale, and while the second game, Requiem, did not grab me as much as the first, I do have a soft spot for it. A huge part of my love for these games is its protagonist, Amicia de Rune, who undergoes this incredible transformation from countryside noble to hardened espionage agent. So I was a little disappointed to see that the third game, Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, is a prequel that goes back and focuses on a completely different character: Sophia, who Amicia met during the events of the second game. Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is set to launch for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC on August 27.
