Patrice Désilets vows to make a sequel to Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey "And people can believe me." Patrice Désilets, the creator of the Assassin's Creed series and director of 1666: Amsterdam, has said he will make a sequel to open-world human evolution survival game Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey. Désilets, talking to me at a recent 1666: Amsterdam event, said 2019's Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey was written as a "volume one". "Ancestors is ambitious and clunky and not much fun," wrote Donlan in his Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey Eurogamer review, "and it's often quietly thought-provoking too." But despite its clunkiness, Ancestors managed to find a sizeable audience, selling 2m copies as of April 2024. That's not the main plan; you'll have a 1.0 version." It's also worth noting that 1666: Amsterdam currently sits at a "mixed" reception on Steam with only 720 reviews, suggesting it hasn't found a large or very receptive audience yet.
Here at Ars, we’re intimately familiar with data leaks surrounding Valve’s games, hardware, and the workings of Steam itself. But nothing could have prepared us for this weekend’s “terarelease” encompassing more than 12TB of content related to seemingly every title available on Steam between 2003 to 2013. What’s being sold as an “as-complete-as-possible … content server dump” of Steam’s defunct “Steam2” server architecture from that time period is now circulating around via a BitTorrent tracker that Valve seems unlikely to ever completely purge from the Internet. It’s Valve’s fault…” Spanish-language Valve streamer and analyst Scolcer also said on social media (via machine translation) that the teraleak was “obtained from a site that was 100% accessible to the public.
14 years on, the creator of DayZ is still searching for a solution to survival gaming's biggest problem: 'I think I am going to die without having solved it' You might think making one of the most influential games of this century would be a source of unending happiness for its creator. But for Dean 'Rocket' Hall, founder of RocketWerkz, the relationship with his most famous creation isn't that simple. I'll be like 'Hey, a lot of our DLC, even on Icarus— which is really good—sometimes we'll only make $100,000 from it. It might have cost us $120,000 to make.
GTA 6's November release date caused other video games to part like the Red Sea, huddling together in the slightly safer confines of the months before and after. One such game is the upcoming Fable reboot, and its director feels fine about launching next to other big hitters not called GTA 6. Take a quick look at our new games release calendar and you'll notice that the months around GTA 6 are unusually swamped with notable releases. Next February is particularly busy with Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, God of War: Laufey, Persona 4 Revival and Fable all coming out within mere days of each other.

This plan also motivates Konami to keep moving Silent Hill far away from its original home in fall-apart Maine, as Okamoto says, "If we stay laser-focused on the same American setting, that would exhaust [narrative] possibilities, and also potentially cause fatigue for the playerbase." Okamoto wants anyone working on a Silent Hill game to tailor the IP, so keeping it flying around the world lets developers "work within the types of environments and the types of storytelling that works best for them." Every main Silent Hill game released or announced this decade was made by a developer that wasn't Konami, so it sounds like the publisher will continue to experiment with who gets to define Silent Hill.
The Super NES had no shortage of amazing RPGs, though only a fraction of them saw release outside of Japan. There was one particularly strange case, though: Terranigma, the third game in a trilogy of popular action-RPGs that included Soul Blazer and Illusion of Gaia, only saw an English-language release in Europe. 30 years later, however, that's finally changing, as Terranigma has been announced for a global release by publisher Clear River Games on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, Switch 2, and PC in early 2027. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e5rWXIzACtM Terranigma puts players in the shoes of Ark, a youth who lives in a secluded village.

Some of the most memorable Zelda games weren't actually made by Nintendo, but were instead developed by Capcom – more specifically a now defunct division of Capcom called 'Flagship'. These games include Oracle of Ages , Oracle of Seasons , Four Swords , and The Minish Cap . It's fairly well known by this point that Capcom's involvement in Zelda came from an initial desire to port the original Legend of Zelda from the NES to the Game Boy. However, an interview with Capcom producer Yoshiki Okamoto has been freshly translated by Did You Know Gaming (thanks, Games Radar+ ) which sheds a bit more light on how Capcom eventually garnered the green light.

Cosy games and tea are a perfect pairing: think curling up under a blanket, Switch in hand, cup by your side. It’s no wonder, then, that the concept for Wanderstop came about. The debut from new (and now sadly defunct ) studio Ivy Road — co-founded by Davey Wreden, of The Stanley Parable fame — blends management-sim gameplay with a unique story about quelling the ‘do more’ voice in our heads, and taking a break with a hot drink. Now it’s come to Nintendo's handheld following its debut on other platforms in 2025, you can curl up with it – and I recommend you do.
While some fans are still holding out hope for a financial savior to sweep in and save Nagoshi Studios' debut title, Gang of Dragon , more small details have emerged from print and social media this week that paint a very unpleasant picture of the studio's fate. Things haven't been looking particularly rosy for the upstart Nagoshi Studios--headed by former Yakuza series creator Toshihiro Nagoshi--for a while now. Following a reveal of their debut title, , at The Game Awards , things soon looked very shaky when it was revealed that their primary funder, Chinese giant NetEase, was pulling out of further commitments . https://twitter.com/Wario64/status/2067338404103180591 With such a high-profile figure now listing his involvement with the studio as "ex-," combined with Nagoshi's lack of title in Famitsu, it's hardly a stretch to assume that Nagoshi Studio is either defunct or running on fumes and praying for a miracle.
