Though, its creator seems to be hoping the trip to the southern tip of the mysterious province will do more that just entertain, serving as a reminder that it's still possible for solo modders to make ambitious works happen for free without resorting to using generative AI. "I did not make this mod to send a message, however I want to make a point with this release; good mods can still be made and released for free, and without any use of AI, in 2026, by a solo developer no less," modder Pancake0723 wrote in the description of their creation, King of the Murkmire. Set in a Skyrim-era version of the Murkmire region of Black Marsh, an older (timeline-wise) iteration of which has been depicted in one of The Elder Scrolls Online's DLCs, it boasts 13 quests brought to life by over 1000 lines of human voice acted dialogue.
