S-Game, the Chinese studio behind Phantom Blade Zero, clearly understands the core tenets of character-action games. If your melee combat isn't tight, responsive, and oozing cool, then what's the point? Some games might have better combat, but few can match Phantom Blade Zero's style. Every moment feels like you're in the middle of a Chinese martial-arts movie, pulling off moves that shouldn't be feasible--moves that go against what we expect from third-person action games--yet are baked into the mechanics.
Half-Life 3 re-re-re-confirmed: A Valve dev just said 'HLX' out loud There's no mistaking it this time—he said it. Get ready to start talking about Half-Life 3 again, folks, because it's that time of year: Winter is closing in, The Game Awards are coming, and somebody at Valve said "HLX." HLX, for those who haven't been following along, is a rumored codename for Half-Life 3, or Half-Life something, the near-mythical new Half-Life game that Valve may or may not be working on. It first appeared in early 2024 as part of a data string inside a Counter-Strike 2 update that bore a very strong resemblance to "HLVR," Valve's codename for Half-Life: Alyx—a revelation that had PC Gamer contributor Rick Lane "vibrating with excitement." Sadly for Rick, nothing came of it: No new Half-Life game, 3 or otherwise, followed, and HLX was filed away with all the other myriad Half-Life 3 rumors, hoaxes, and leaks. It is interesting, though, that PC Gamer editor Tyler Wilde—a man who does not indulge in the frivolity of baseless rumor and speculation—said in 2025, as the previous round of Half-Life 3 rumors was heating up, that he does think Valve is working on a new Half-Life game (although not necessary Half-Life 3), and that "it's not unreasonable to believe that a new Half-Life game will be announced within the next year or so." Here we are, a year later—and a year closer?

Back in 2019, author Margaret Stohl was handed a manuscript written by Jason Jones, who’s best known as the co-creator of sci-fi gaming series Halo and Destiny. The two had worked together at Bungie, and Jones wanted Stohl’s opinion on a book he was writing about AI taking over the world. It was an oral history of the fictional events, with around 100 characters spread across 40 countries, all detailing the AI uprising from their own perspectives. Halo’s co-creator wrote a novel about AI taking over the world Read a chapter from Jason Jones’ An Oral History of Humanity’s Final Invention, one part of an ambitious multimedia plan.

Key Preview Takeaways: - Previous previews have focused on the open world, but my slice was focused on the more linear, story-intensive sections. - Materia has a new way to level up. - Difficulty was a bit lacking in this demo, but then again it was the first chapter of the game... We’re about six months out from Final Fantasy VII Revelation, and while that doesn’t seem like a huge wait, the anticipation to play the final chapter of the FF7 remake is palpable, especially since the first chapter dropped six(!) years ago now.
I recall many things from my 140-hour initial playthrough of The Witcher 3, but taking in the scenery is not one of them. Between monster contracts, heartbreaking questlines like The Bloody Baron, and far too many games of Gwent, the position of the sun in the sky was never of concern to me. Join the GamesRadar+ RPG Club: Every month we pick a new RPG to play together. In October we are diving back into The Witcher 3 for the Remastered update, and we need your thoughts and opinions to make this journey the best one yet!
Sega has issued a response to the chaotic launch of the official Sonic Discord, stating that while things were “pretty wild” at the start, everything is completely under control. As part of the ongoing 35th anniversary festivities, Sega launched its first-ever Sonic Discord server for the beloved Blue Blur. However, as we originally reported, things didn’t exactly get off to a smooth start. However, Sega’s community relations director Aaron Webber has pushed back on reports of ongoing chaos within the Sonic Discord, saying disruptive users were swiftly banned and that things have been “fairly wholesome.” Sega responds to Sonic Discord’s chaotic launch “You might read a headline that says it’s on fire and everything is chaos, but as anyone in the server the last ten hours can tell you, that’s very much not the case,” Webber wrote.

We're probably not getting a new Fallout game until well into the 2030s, but that's no reason to stop talking about them The bombs may fall for real before then. That last mainline entry in the Fallout series, Fallout 4, was released in 2015. That's most likely still half a decade away, if not more: Bethesda first needs to finish and release The Elder Scrolls 6, which is itself mostly likely still a few years away. Sure, in the meantime we've had Fallout 76, and Microsoft has cracked the whip over the backs over what's left of Obsidian Entertainment to produce a Fallout something, but what's the earliest we'll be able to conceivably play Fallout 5?
As handholding mechanics come under fire elsewhere, Control Resonant devs confirm they made a "conscious decision" not to use yellow paint Faden colour. Control Resonant is one of the few modern open-world games which doesn't always point you to where you should go next. This desire to give players time to figure their way around is the reason why, according to the game's director, Resonant does not have yellow paint. "It was a conscious decision, obviously," Control Resonant director Mikael Kasurinen said on the Dropped Frames podcast (via Kotaku).

Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave is the latest in the long-running series to garner critical acclaim and a welcome return to form for Nintendo's premier strategy series as one of the best RPGs in 2026. Now you’re probably thinking that these tips will only be for combat, but thanks to the rather robust tutorial, understanding how to fight is actually relatively simple. No matter if you decided to begin with Casual or Classic settings enabled, the real complexity of Fortune’s Weave actually lies in the downtime between story quests, and chances are that at least one, if not most, of the core decisions you need to make will be more than a bit befuddling. Venezuela has unveiled a bronze statue of Tsunami, the search and rescue dog who became the face of the country’s earthquake response. The sculpture stands in Vereda del Lago park in Maracaibo, with a plaque naming him “Guardián de la esperanza,” or guardian of hope. Mayor Giancarlo Di Martino called him “a true hero” at the ceremony, awarding him the Honor Button of Merit, the Medal of Valor and the city fire department’s insignia. When two earthquakes struck northern Venezuela on June 24, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 just 39 seconds apart, the pair went straight into the rubble, with Tsunami credited with helping find dozens of people trapped beneath it.
