Blizzard's decision to reveal far-away release dates for Diablo 5 (2029) and the new open-world StarCraft shooter (2030) at this year's BlizzCon represented an uncharacteristically transparent look at its future plans. So much so, there was a moment when the spotlight turned on World of Warcraft and it seemed we might get a monumental reveal there too.

The WoW 'Classic+' rumors were true: World of Warcraft: Forever promises to be another timeline's version of the MMO It's out soon, too, with a beta starting this week. The rumored game known to World of Warcraft fans as "Classic Plus" is real, and it has a proper name now—World of Warcraft: Forever is a new branch of the MMO that once again resets the clock to 2004, the year WoW first launched. Here are the biggest takeaways: - WoW: Forever will be set in the first year of WoW with a level cap of 60 "for the foreseeable future" - New stuff won't just be for max level players; it will span all levels - Three new zones - "Several" existing zones overhauled, "filling in the blank spaces of the vanilla map" - Nine new dungeons - Two new raids - New race: Skyborne Elves - New race/class combos: The trailer seems to show a Forsaken paladin, dwarf shaman, and orc mage It's a strategy reminiscent of Old School RuneScape, which treats the 2006 version of the MMO as a jumping-off point rather than a specimen to be preserved. World of Warcraft: Forever is covered by the pre-existing WoW subscription, but upgrade packs with features like the Skyborne race are available on Battle.net starting at $30.
A few hours into Wolverine I found myself asking, “Why did Insomniac Games make this?” There are obvious answers, of course: It has three excellent Spider-Man games under its belt; it's an opportunity to expand its Marvel Universe; and Wolverine presents ample opportunities for a brutal and bloody action game. But none of that explains why Insomniac Games , specifically, made Wolverine. Spider-Man is an ideal fit for the studio: an energetic and dynamic hero in the hands of a team known for open-worlds that are sprawling jungle gyms, where it can let players loose with thrilling traversal mechanics and varied combat systems for crime fighting fun. Insomniac also excels at crafting narratives that are as earnest as they are dramatic--perfect for the tumultuous lives of Peter Parker and Miles Morales.

Okay, I wasn't expecting 'Rainbow Six XCOM' to be one of my favourite Gamescom demos And yet, here we are. Hard experience has taught me that I am not, in my heart, a Rainbow Six Siege guy. The series' hardcore-ish squad-based first-person gameplay just never jibed with me going all the way back to 1998, when a five-year-old Josh got shot to death by eco-terrorists in about 0.3 seconds and promptly decided to play something else. 2026 games: All the upcoming games Best PC games: Our all-time favorites Free PC games: Freebie fest Best FPS games: Finest gunplay Best RPGs: Grand adventures Best co-op games: Better together One of Josh's first memories is of playing Quake 2 on the family computer when he was much too young to be doing that, and he's been irreparably game-brained ever since.
Total War: Warhammer 40,000 is a sandbox that Creative Assembly will keep adding to rather than making sequels: 'The true experience is the sandbox' Expect big updates and DLC, but they'll all be built on top of this one game. With Total War: Warhammer, Creative Assembly designed a trio of games, each with their own bespoke campaigns, but the core of the series quickly became the mode now known as Immortal Empires—every single faction and lord in one massive sandbox. And that's been a big inspiration for Total War: Warhammer 40,000. At Gamescom 2026, battle product owner Dave Petry told me that the plan was to make the initial release of Total War 40k the "bedrock" upon which Creative Assembly will continue to build, rather than splitting it up into a trilogy.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 was my 2025 game of the year and one of my favorite RPGs ever, but having spent more than a year as a beat reporter covering community developments, I'd be naive to think I'm among the game's most diehard fans. My first and only playthrough took me more than 200 hours, and I still haven't seen and done everything. Meanwhile, it's not hard to find RPG fans claiming they've spent more than 1,000 hours in the game with multiple playthroughs. Speaking to PC Gamer, Chase uncloaked himself as a loud-and-proud RPG sicko dipping his toes into Deltarune Chapter 5 and straight-up deep-sea diving in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.
The people of video games on what gives them cause for hope "Forget trodden down, I think our future sees a beautiful revolution." Hello and welcome to one of our final pieces for Optimism Week here on Eurogamer. This time, we've turned to the industry itself for some answers, and as such I'm going to do my best to get out of the way as quickly as possible. "The bundle ended this morning, as of this writing, and we managed to raise more than $250,000 in two weeks. Look at this year's breakthrough hits… Mewgenics, 007 First Light, Crimson Desert, Pragmata, Subnautica 2, Forza Horizon 6, Meccha Chameleon, Pokemon Pokopia, Resident Evil Requiem, Slay The Spire 2… the variety is incredible.
Fallout dev Tim Cain says we should pay more attention to bad games: '[Publishers] often don't learn from failure because they only look at the games that sold well' "Gamers will frequently point to popular games and say, 'we want more of that,' without necessarily knowing exactly what part of those games made them so good." "Jesus Christ, I could write this shit:" The great Alan Moore once said that the sort of negative inspiration you get from reading drivel is even more fruitful for aspiring authors than the kind you get from reading the classics. Fallout co-creator and prolific video blogger Tim Cain took it a step further in a video he published Wednesday, saying everyone from bigwig publishers to the casual gamer could learn a thing or two from bad games. Granted, he's not talking about irredeemable refuse like Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude, but rather the "many" cases where "one game came out, it wasn't very good, and it was forgotten … you could learn a lot from games like that."
