Going into BlizzCon 2026 , World of Warcraft Classic fans, myself included, were hoping for what the community coined as Classic+. Instead, what we got is essentially WoW 2, an alternate vision for what Blizzard's legendary MMORPG called World Of Warcraft: Forever. It wasn't long after Blizzard re-released WoW Classic, the original version of its genre-defining MMO, in 2019 that players started to dream about what might come next. In a first for WoW, Blizzard is charging $30 for the new race, though WoW: Forever as a whole is simply included in WoW's monthly $15 subscription.

Former Doom: The Dark Ages producer Andrew Willis has shared tuppence on the state of the blockbuster videogame trade, arguing that the biggest companies and most popular series are going through a familiar "cycle" whereby the moneyfolk finally displace the creatives, and start messing games up in the name of short-term returns. He reckons that the likes of Halo are well on their way to becoming "a dried husk of a product that everyone just now associates with like, slop".
Nintendo has gotten quite good at making open-ended games. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild upended the idea of what a Zelda game could be by giving the player free rein to tackle any part of the map, a philosophy iterated upon with Tears of the Kingdom.

To celebrate the middle of the week, we're back with another roundup of all the new releases on Xbox. Today's headliner is Aniimo , a free-to-play open-world RPG with Pokémon-esque creature-catching shenanigans. The only difference is instead of making cute animals get into scraps, you can transform into your captive creatures and experience the battles first-hand! It looks quite charming, but if that's not your cuppa, perhaps Woodo and Two Point Hospital may be more to your liking.
Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter has one of the creepiest JRPG monsters I've encountered
I went into my hands-on session with Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember expecting to hate it. That probably isn't the sort of sentence Team Ninja wants associated with its upcoming action-RPG, but it's an important one. I've never been great at souls-likes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRdejhi9Oew The sequel to 2023's Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is still built around fast, demanding martial-arts combat, with deflection remaining a crucial part of surviving encounters.
While the ranks of the best GameCube games are dominated by the family-friendly titles Nintendo is best known for, Nintendo's purple square was also quietly a killer horror machine. Sure, that's mostly down to the mostly exclusive Resident Evil games Capcom was pumping out for the system, but there's one other horror titan on the system, and it was published by Nintendo itself. That is Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem. But unlike those classic Resident Evil games, Eternal Darkness never got a second chance on another platform, and it's never been remastered or made available on modern machines.
