Naughty Dog's The Last of Us franchise featured a multiplayer mode in Factions, and while the studio planned to add multiplayer to the sequel, it abandoned those ambitions before release. A modder spent months this year working on a multiplayer mod for The Last of Us 2, but its lead has now said it's not going to be released due to a request from Sony to shut it down. Modder @Speclizer_ said on social media that the mod was due to launch this month. However, they said they "recently received a letter on behalf of Sony Interactive Entertainment requesting for the mod not to be released." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_hZQn8_1WA Speclizer said this is an "extremely sad" development, but they hope people who supported the project will stick with them for the next one.
Discussing 20 years of Company of Heroes with the team carrying its torch into the future "I'm really pleased that we're here, able to support the games, and able to celebrate this 20th anniversary." I still remember the PC Gamer cover from October 2006 featuring Company of Heroes as the vanguard of the "RTS Revolution." This was back in the day that I would walk down to the local grocery store to grab each new physical issue off of the news stand. I was already failing trigonometry. After the announcement that Dawn of War 4 was being developed by German studio King Art Games—I was later told Relic passed on it as they simply didn't have the bandwidth to take it on alongside other ongoing projects, mostly related to Company of Heroes—I was wondering if there even would be a Relic anymore. But in the meantime, they have split from Sega and become independent again. 2026 games: All the upcoming games Best PC games: Our all-time favorites Free PC games: Freebie fest Best FPS games: Finest gunplay Best RPGs: Grand adventures Best co-op games: Better together Leana Hafer is a freelancer and lifelong PC gamer with a specialty in strategy, RPGs, horror, and survival games.

Overwatch and Warcraft were also specifically mentioned after the Diablo series' announcement, though Faries did not say if anything is official or concrete at this stage. The biggest on the Diablo front included the debut of the Amazon in Diablo 4 and the reveal of Diablo 5 .
Polyarc, the studio behind the Moss series of VR platformers, has announced it is shutting down, three months on from releasing its latest game on Steam. "After nearly 12 years riding the joyous rollercoaster of emotions that is making video games, our time together has come to an end," the studio posted on LinkedIn (via IGN). "As we wind down active development, we are saying our farewells to each other." Founded in 2015, Polyarc made its video game debut three years later with Moss (now known as Moss: VR). Thank you to everyone at Polyarc, our work is now finished." As Polyarc winds down, all the Moss games (except Glassbreakers) are currently on sale, with The Forgotten Relic at 20% off, and the VR versions of Moss and Moss 2 at half-price.

Back in October 2025, GTA 6 developers Rockstar fired a group of 34, mostly UK-based employees on a charge of "gross misconduct", alleging that they had risked the leaking of confidential information while posting on a Discord server set up by union organisers. The ousted UK workers and their representatives have since taken Rockstar to court, accusing the company of getting rid of them to stop their union gaining enough members to win official recognition under UK law. This week, both parties filed opening submissions at an employment tribunal in Glasgow , which Rockstar parent company Take-Two Interactive have emailed to RPS and Game Developer , among others. Taken together, the filings amount to over 100 pages of claims and counterclaims, with thousands of pages of evidence to be discussed in the coming weeks.
Blocks for Babies is an upcoming Steam game that combines Tetris-style block stacking with a first-person shooter where players blast demonic blocks with a shotgun. The strange hybrid also includes roguelike upgrades, bosses, and an unsettling baby companion named Flapper. Developed by two-person studio BunkSoft Interactive, Blocks for Babies is currently listed as coming soon on Steam, although a demo is already available. The game’s official website describes it as a roguelike block-stacking game with a shotgun.

Saber Interactive's Tim Willits on generative AI, moving development out of North America, and embracing recognisable IP "Sometimes I play these games and I can just see the wasted money" Saber Interactive has achieved a lot in the past few years, but the most noticeable recent news to come out of the the company was CEO Matthew Karch's unfiltered response to accusations that a writer had been replaced with ChatGPT. When we sit down at Gamescom for the second of two conversations with Saber Interactive's chief creative officer Tim Willits, it's the first thing we ask about. It remains a huge company, numbering 3,500 employees spread across 15 studios in places like Serbia, Armenia, Georgia, Spain, Portugal, Sweden, Argentina, and Australia. If it takes [a big studio] five years to make a game, that's 60 months, that's $120 million just in salaries." Adding on things like marketing and publishing costs can easily push that up to $150 million, he says, while each game sold might only return around $25 after various deductions.
GTA 6 online mode appears to receive Rockstar's first public acknowledgment, via mention of in-development "32 player format" in legal docs As court battle between company and fired staff begins its final trial Up until now, Rockstar Games have kept mum about what plans they have for the future of Grand Theft Auto multiplayer once GTA 6 releases on consoles in November. Thanks to filings submitted by the studio as part of the final hearing in a legal battle over the firings of 34 developers last year, that silence appears to have been broken. Deep in the lengthy docs, which Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive themselves have emailed to RPS, Rockstar claim that one of the in-development game features fired staff were "candidly referencing" in discussions on a union-run Discord server was an "online 32 player format which was highly confidential at that time". Based on that albeit very brief description, it sounds like a framework for 32 player online sessions in GTA 6 (or some new version of GTA Online) attached to the fresh entry in the crime series.
Saudi Arabia's PIF reportedly considering to combine EA with Savvy Games Group Reports suggest a merger would "ensure better coordination between its assets" Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) is reportedly planning to combine Electronic Arts with its subsidiary, Savvy Games Group. Sources told Bloomberg that the PIF is considering the merger to "ensure better coordination between its assets." Savvy Games' current portfolio includes Scopely, ESL Gaming, FaceIt, and a $1 billion stake in Embracer Group. Savvy is currently acquiring the Chinese mobile games company Moonton for $6 billion, a deal announced in March. Ward served as CEO of Savvy Games since its establishment in 2021 and oversaw a $37.8 billion investment to expand Saudi Arabia's presence in the global games industry.

Former PlayStation boss Shuhei Yoshida has seemingly reacted to the news that Sony has dropped Hideo Kojima's highly anticipated stealth game, Physint, allowing Xbox to swoop in, and he's just as surprised as we are. Overnight, PlayStation announced that "we have made the difficult decision to step away from collaborating with KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS on its project PHYSINT." However, Kojima's own statement highlights this move as being a lot more one-sided than you might expect: "In mid-June of this year, we unexpectedly received notice from PlayStation Studios that they would cancel the PHYSINT project," he reveals, going on to say that "we have spent the last three months searching tirelessly for a new partner," leading Kojima Productions right back to Xbox, which it's also teaming up with on horror title OD. The concept that any company would want to cancel a Kojima game is shocking, and the situation of PlayStation essentially handing it over to its main competition only makes it weirder, even though it's unclear if Sony could have known that's where the game would end up. Yoshida, former president of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios, has responded to the news on Twitter, expressing how "surprised" he is (translated by GamesRadar+).
Hideo Kojima's Physint now being published by Xbox, as PlayStation severs ties with Kojima Productions and Microsoft steps in to take over A game to surpass Metal Gear? It looks like Hideo Kojima has made some big changes behind-the-scenes with his upcoming "action espionage" title, Physint. The game, which was announced as a PlayStation exclusive in 2024, is now in the hands of Asha Sharma's Xbox, where Kojima will reportedly be a primary focus of her new vision for the platform. https://www.youtube.com/embed/D8uF8VQVT7I "As confirmed earlier through our official channels, in mid-June of this year, we unexpectedly received notice from PlayStation Studios that they would cancel the Physint project," says Kojima in a tweet.

"We probably need a few more Expedition 33s to just prove them wrong" – the maker of Valor Mortis on why publishers should have faith in AA Polish studio One More Level struggled on after losing its funding, but found a saviour in the form of a film company spin-off Over the past 12 years, Polish studio One More Level has carved out a niche in the world of AA games with projects whose production values often approach those of AAA titles. Its eye-catching 2020 cyberpunk action platformer Ghostrunner launched to critical acclaim and commercial success, selling 5.6 million units according to Video Game Insights estimates, and it was followed by a sequel in 2023. Over the past few years, investment has dried up at the same time as competition has increased, so smaller publishers have tended to prefer betting on games with smaller budgets of $1 million or less, while the big players have gone all in on evergreen titles. But for Valor Mortis, One More Level initially signed up with the indie label Private Division, only for parent Take-Two to begin scaling back the publisher in 2024, with Take-Two head Strauss Zelnick saying that the firm wanted to focus on AAA: "We're in the business of making great big hits." (Private Division's catalogue was sold and the company reemerged as Fictions in 2025; the publisher is behind the recently released Beast of Reincarnation from Pokémon studio Game Freak.) Ratusznik says One More Level was considering self-publishing Valor Mortis after the Private Division deal fell through.
Developers are using a simulated fruit fly nervous system to control video game characters, putting the digital insect through Minecraft and Beat Saber experiments before one creator offered it an endless, fruit-filled open world. It sounds like scientists have uploaded a living creature’s brain into a computer, but that is not what happened. The map contains more than 166,000 neurons and shows how they connect. How a simulated fly brain controls a video game Developer Evan Sinclair Smith started the trend with NeuroCraft Fly, an experimental Minecraft project containing 166,700 simulated neurons and more than 25 million connections.
Inspired by the success of games like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, French president Emmanuel Macron declares 'videogames are part of our culture' and announces a new international gaming festival It seems like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 really made an impact on Macron. One of the biggest videogames of 2025 was Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, a French JRPG that sold millions of copies, won armloads of awards, and earned not just one but two separate shout-outs from French President Emmanuel Macron. It must've made an even bigger impression on him than it first appeared, as over the weekend Macron announced a new "international videogame festival" that will take place in France. 2026 games: All the upcoming games Best PC games: Our all-time favorites Free PC games: Freebie fest Best FPS games: Finest gunplay Best RPGs: Grand adventures Best co-op games: Better together Andy has been gaming on PCs from the very beginning, starting as a youngster with text adventures and primitive action games on a cassette-based TRS80.
