It's been another rough year for video games, with countless studio closures, staff layoffs, and projects that barely managed to even get off the ground before they were unceremoniously cut short . This was especially painful for Mass Effect players, who were looking forward to the upcoming Mass Effect 5, which we now know was tentatively titled Mass Effect: Universe. Sims 4 players don't want Project Rene, but they do want either The Sims 5 or a complete, playable version of The Sims 4--ideally one that doesn't require the purchase of $1,600 in DLC packs to feel "finished." Hitting pause on its weird, experimental Sims projects in favor of attempting to preserve The Sims 4 in a stable, playable, "evergreen" state is arguably the best decision EA could make, given the current state of both EA and The Sims franchise. The Sims 4, however, introduced an era of seemingly endless DLC: expansion packs, game packs, stuff packs, kits--there are over 100 of them, ranging in cost from $40 to $5, and totaling around $1,600 if purchased individually outside of sales and bundles.
If you’ve played multiple entries in Capcom’s Resident Evil series, you’re bound to pick a favorite. Given how themes, characters, perspectives, and gameplay elements change from one installment to another, there’s a lot of choice there. I find myself always coming back to Resident Evil 3, be it the original or remake, because of the execution. The Resident Evil 3 remake appears on the Switch, Switch 2, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PC, and iOS devices.
Maddy Makes Games removes Celeste and TowerFall from Xbox in support of pro-Palestinian BDS boycott Indie developers join the creators of Luck be a Landlord, Ice Water, and All Will Rise in removing games from Xbox Indie developer Maddy Makes Games has delisted Celeste and TowerFall from Xbox to support the pro-Palestinian Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement. According to GamesRadar, players noticed both games were removed from the platform yesterday. Maddy Thorson later confirmed this on social media. We've made this decision with the belief that meaningful change can be made in the world, that coordinated collective action can confront even the most powerful interests, and that one day, Palestine will be free." Other developers supporting the boycott include Ice Water, creator of Tenderfoot Tactics; Speculative Agency, developer of All Will Rise; and Dan Dilorio, creator of Luck be a Landlord.
Celeste and TowerFall dev explains why both games were suddenly delisted from Xbox "We did this to support the BDS boycott." Celeste and TowerFall have both been delisted from Xbox suddenly earlier this week. Per a post on Bluesky, developer Maddy Thorson says this was an intentional move, with the games being removed from sale on Xbox in support of the BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions) movement, which is aimed at protesting various companies linked to, or supporting, Israel's government during the genocide in Palestine. "For those who're asking, yes we delisted Celeste and TowerFall on Xbox," states Thorson in a BlueSky post. This isn't the first time we've seen developers intentionally opt out of sales on Xbox because of the BDS movement; just a few weeks ago, Big Walk developer House House released a statement noting that its game is not on Xbox because of Microsoft's ties to Israel, and we saw the developer of Tenderfoot Tactics do the same in 2025.
Key Preview Takeaways: - This isn’t a straight retelling of the anime, but it does follow the same overall storyline. - The designers aim to include something in combat for more advanced/experienced players too. - The moments in-between big battles are some of my favorites so far. With a cracking new tactical feature and dedicated UI "strike team", Football Manager 27 is a huge step back towards FM's best form Arteta tête. Welcome back, Football Manager. Football Manager 27 is a big, much-appreciated step in the right direction. He put Bruno Fernandes back in the number 10 role, reverted to a familiar 4-2-3-1 formation, gave a relatively large amount of creative freedom to more creative players, and set them up in more of a fluid counterattacking mid-block as opposed to Amorim's structured, finely-tuned high press.
'It’s so much easier to steal this than to rob a bank': $100,000,000+ worth of AI data center freight reportedly stolen since June 'It’s like stealing pure gold bars.' AI data centers are springing up across the US at an unprecedented rate, and with them comes a number of problems. Aside from the noise, disruption, and environmental concerns, the vast infrastructure projects also require the transport of millions of dollars worth of equipment—and opportunistic thieves are cashing in. An NBC News report details two audacious data center equipment heists, both involving literal examples of highway robbery. A shipment carrying $13 million worth of server equipment travelling on a section of interstate through the Mojave Desert had its security escort rammed by a separate vehicle, forcing it to stop.
Wendy’s — yes, the American fast food chain — is releasing a surprisingly gorgeous, pixelated, turn-based RPG on Steam, and the internet is legitimately stunned by how good it looks. The game, titled WendyQuest: Legend of the Four Corner Stones, is a 2D RPG where players join Wendy in her journey to “battle evil mech-monsters to save a culinary kingdom in peril.” A trailer and screenshots for the game show Wendy and a party of three other adventurers traversing terrain fraught with food-themed obstacles and duking it out with sentient menu items. Its Steam page proudly states that the title is “100% fresh and 100% human made.” Of course, others couldn’t help but compare it to Burger King’s infamous Sneak King game from ages long past (2006), where players could “step into the King’s royal shoes and use cunning stealth to sneak up behind unsuspecting people and bestow them with a delicious meal.” (While a novelty, it wasn't an especially 'good' game. We rated it a 6.7 out of 10.) This isn't the first time Wendy's has made a game; in fact, it released a free, 100-page tabletop RPG back in 2019 called Feast of Legends where players could battle Ronald McDonald.
Back in 2022, Gears Tactics studio Splash Damage revealed that they were working on a Transformers game . It was called Transformers: Reactivate , and at the time was set to be a 1-4 player co-op action game, but come 2025 and the game gets canned all while parent company Tencent was going on a funding withdrawal spree in the games industry. Nothing substantial was ever really shown off of the game, but a trailer has now been leaked featuring what was apparently meant to be an internal look at it in action.

Splash Damage acquired this studio just 3 months after laying off a bunch of people—now it's laying them off, too An undisclosed number of employees have been let go from the studio behind survival game Scum. The closure of BioWare and layoff of roughly 400 people at Electronic Arts is being rightly excoriated as an example of the corrosive effects of capital on pretty much everything good. So, to recap: - Splash Damage gets bought up by private equity - Splash Damage lays off employees - Splash Damage, backed by private equity, acquires Gamepires - Gamepires lays off employees The number of people put out of work wasn't revealed, but in response to our inquiry Splash Damage issued the following statement: "Gamepires is part of Splash Damage Group and has reduced the size of its team in response to challenging market conditions and to support the studio’s long-term sustainability. "Development of SCUM will continue, and we’ll keep working with our colleagues at Gamepires to support updates and new content." 2026 games: All the upcoming games Best PC games: Our all-time favorites Free PC games: Freebie fest Best FPS games: Finest gunplay Best RPGs: Grand adventures Best co-op games: Better together Andy has been gaming on PCs from the very beginning, starting as a youngster with text adventures and primitive action games on a cassette-based TRS80.

Dawn of War 4 clearly loves the Warhammer 40K strategy games that came before, but it misses that they loved to reinvent themselves Retreading hallowed ground I may have set my expectations for Dawn of War 4 too high, but it's a series that, to my mind, never retreads the same ground. It's therefore been disappointing to feel, having played it across two its campaigns that this long-awaited sequel may have taken too few risks - or been too reverent of the games that came before. Back in the hands of Relic Entertainment, the original Dawn of War was closest to a traditional RTS game. Dragon Ball fans have created a new game that combines the characters of FighterZ with the strategic gameplay of Teamfight Tactics, and you can play it for free in your browser. Called FighterZ Tactics, the unofficial game uses the roster from Dragon Ball FighterZ and places its characters into an auto-battler similar to Riot Games’ Teamfight Tactics, only it uses Dragon Ball characters instead of LoL champions. Rather than controlling individual fighters and pulling off combos, the challenge comes from choosing the right characters, positioning them on the battlefield, and building a team capable of defeating your opponents. Dragon Ball FighterZ meets Teamfight Tactics in free fan game Available at dragonballtft.online, FighterZ Tactics follows a similar structure to Teamfight Tactics, with players purchasing characters like Goku and Majin Buu, and placing them on a board before battles begin.
Football Manager 27 will be free to play for five days before its full release, in "industry first" for a game of its kind So you can see Wenger you like it or not. You can play Football Manager 27 on PC and Mac for free this year for five full days later this month, in a first for the series and apparently an "industry first" for games of its kind. The free period itself will start on 29th October at 6pm GMT, and run until its typical paid 'launch preview' period starts on the 3rd November, which is available to those who pre-order the game before its full launch on 10th November. "Making an annual title free to play with all game modes available is believed to be an industry first and is a move that continues Sports Interactive's efforts to support its community of players," a studio press release says.
Lucasfilm wants to do more Star Wars games like Zero Company and Galactic Racer: 'We’ve tried to be more flexible about who we’re willing to take pitches from' Not every Star Wars game has to be a big-budget blockbuster to be successful. We've had two Star Wars games in 2026, both of them quite good and neither of them quite what you might expect from the Star Wars mould: Zero Company, an XCOM-style tactics game, and Galactic Racer, an arcade racing game but Star Wars. Both Zero Company and Galactic Racer were developed by independent studios—Bit Reactor and Fuse Games, respectively—and that "very much is part of the strategy," Lucasfilm Games vice president Douglas Reilly told The Game Business. Of course, there are plenty of familiar-looking Star Wars games in the trench too: Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, a new addition to the Knights of the Old Republic series, was announced at The Game Awards in 2025, the third and supposedly last Star Wars Jedi game is in development, Quantic Dream is still plugging away on Star Wars: Eclipse, despite recent reports of struggles, and yes, that KOTOR remake is, somehow, still happening.
This year has seen the launch of two Star Wars games, with each one offering a new take on a galaxy far (far!) away. Bit Reactors' Star Wars Zero Company puts its best XCOM foot forward with an aggressive take on turn-based tactics, while Fuse Games' Star Wars Galactic Racer has been hailed for its superb roguelite racing, slick presentation, and the delightful Biddy Blas . "It very much is part of the strategy," Lucasfilm Games VP Douglas Reilly said to The Game Business Show . Like Zero Company and Galactic Racers, it's being produced by a brand-new developer, Arcanaut Studios, under the direction of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Mass Effect veteran Casey Hudson.
