GTA veteran's MindsEye studio Build a Rocket Boy has entered administration, following yet more reports of layoffs 15 months after debut game's troubled launch. Last week brought reports of further layoffs at Build A Rocket Boy, the beleaguered studio behind the poorly received 2025 shooter MindsEye. Build A Rocket Boy was founded in 2016 by GTA veteran Leslie Benzies, and its first game, Everywhere, was announced in 2022. As GamesIndustry.Biz notes, Build a Rocket Boy reported a £47.5m operating loss and a £36.2m net loss for the 12 months ending 30th September.

The most recently-available accounts for Build A Rocket Boy are for the 12 months ending September 30, 2025; for that financial year, the company posted a £47.5 million operating loss and a £36.2 million net loss, and, as of that date, owed its creditors a total of £61.8 million.

MindsEye studio reportedly installed monitoring software on staff PCs without their knowledge, as execs continue alleging sabotage "It's the 1% that is the problem" Management at Scottish studio Build A Rocket Boy, makers of notoriously panned GTA-like MindsEye, have reportedly installed monitoring software onto the PCs of their staff without informing the workers beforehand. The move appears to be linked to ongoing claims from BARB executives that the game's prospects have been deliberately sabotaged by third parties. GamesIndustry.biz and Insider Gaming report that Teramind monitoring software has been installed on staff PCs, with GamesIndustry stating the workers first found out by noticing that their machines were running more slowly than usual. The GI report claims that Build A Rocket Boy management subsequently came clean and asked the staff to sign an updated IT privacy policy.

As the company installs monitoring software to root out "saboteurs" while attempting a "reset" for troubled debut MindsEye, insiders tell of long-running problems The latest twist in the MindsEye story came last week when staff at the Edinburgh-based studio discovered that the company had installed surveillance software on their PCs without their knowledge. According to Slack messages seen by GamesIndustry.biz, workers at the studio discovered that management had installed monitoring software called Teramind on their machines. Although the Rockstar veteran was very successful in attracting investment for the studio on the back of his previous track record – including a $110 million cash injection at the start of 2024 – staff say that he struggled to delegate responsibility and appeared to lack clarity in the vision for the game.
