Inside Tencent's long-term strategy: live service, AI tools, and evergreen titles "I think people should just not be afraid of AI" Many column inches have been spent questioning the wisdom of focusing on live-service. Sony gambled and lost, as did many other companies chasing the dream of steady recurring revenues, while firms like Capcom that stuck to the traditional path have emerged relatively unscathed. That includes Miniclip, Sumo Digital, Funcom, Fat Shark, Sharkmob, 10 Chambers, and Stunlock Studios in Europe, as well as Digital Extremes in North America and Grinding Gear Games in New Zealand. While Halloween is drawing nearer, the clock is ticking before Epic Games reveals this year's Fortnitemares event, which will carry Fortnite through spooky season with haunting new skins, bosses, weapons, and points of interest on the map. Until that drops, though, there is another way to get your Fortnitemares fix if you happen to be visiting Universal Studios in Orlando or Hollywood. Guests are dropped into the middle of Freaky Fields, a Fortnitemares location from the past two years (Chapter 5, Season 4 and Chapter 6, Season 4) during a battle royale round. Previous Fortnitemares events have included skins of The Grabber (Black Phone), Michael Myers (Halloween), Billy the Puppet (Saw), and Jason Voorhees (Friday the 13th), all Horror Nights legends in their own right.
Our Verdict The Blood of Dawnwalker is a resolutely miserable horror RPG with some great ideas of its own, though it doesn’t always have the courage to follow them through. Ryan Laley, the solo indie developer behind upcoming asymmetrical horror game Mimic, has shared a video confirming his gamescom was "cut short" after he and other developers had their laptops stolen. A teary Laley took to X/Twitter to share a video explaining why his "gamescom is over early," saying that "all our laptops have been stolen" after he and others had their booths "raided" overnight. Bringing Mimic to the Cologne, Germany gaming event meant getting the opportunity to show it off to a new audience of potential partners and eager gamers alike, but stolen gear would bring that dream to an end. These were machines we were using to demo iam8bit Presents titles Petal Runner and Escape Academy 2 to… We were robbed at Gamescom.

After a leak earlier this summer, Paradox Interactive has officially announced a LEGO version of its beloved city builder series, Cities: Skylines. Developed by Iceflake Studios, LEGO Skylines aims to allow players to build functional and logical cities, as you would in other city builders, but also push them to make something more creative and whimsical. There's no release date for LEGO Skylines at the moment, but it will be available on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC when it comes out.
The people of video games on what gives them cause for hope "Forget trodden down, I think our future sees a beautiful revolution." Hello and welcome to one of our final pieces for Optimism Week here on Eurogamer. This time, we've turned to the industry itself for some answers, and as such I'm going to do my best to get out of the way as quickly as possible. "The bundle ended this morning, as of this writing, and we managed to raise more than $250,000 in two weeks. Look at this year's breakthrough hits… Mewgenics, 007 First Light, Crimson Desert, Pragmata, Subnautica 2, Forza Horizon 6, Meccha Chameleon, Pokemon Pokopia, Resident Evil Requiem, Slay The Spire 2… the variety is incredible.
Baldur's Gate 3 is finally seeing Divinity: Original Sin 2-style custom campaigns coming to fruition, as one new mod adds just that: a solid six-hour custom campaign. A Dream of Silence: ReVamped, as it is oh-so aptly dubbed over on Nexus Mods, adds an alternate campaign to Larian Studios' beloved Dungeons & Dragons RPG. The mod is an adaptation of a browser-based text adventure by Abigail Corfman (which you can still access over on her official website), starring none other than my favorite of all the Baldur's Gate 3 companions: the ever-beautiful vampire elf Astarion, of course. Early last year, modders said custom Baldur's Gate 3 campaigns with "levels and lands comparable to the Skyrim modding community" could come in 2025 thanks to Patch 7 and its capacity for "level editing, save editing, and more" – but not too much has actually happened in that regard.
Videogame lawyer says it's become 'just boilerplate' this year to include no-AI clauses in contracts: 'It's not worth the legal liability' Looks like the law is finally catching up. There's a problem with new technologies, in that cutting-edge technology develops quickly—in the span of years. Meanwhile, us human beings with our wet flesh bodies and our complicated bureaucracies and legal systems are glacially slow. Orsinium immediately catches my eye, standing as the legendary capital and ancestral homeland of the Orsimer, as does Aldmeris… perhaps because I'm unapologetically a High Elf in every possible Elder Scrolls entry myself, and, you know, because I'd like to see Bethesda shake things up a bit with The Elder Scrolls 6.
A real-life pizzeria inspired by the Five Nights at Freddy’s game franchise is set to open at a mall in New Jersey. Scott Cawthon’s horror franchise has grown massively in popularity since the original game’s release in 2014. Since then, it has spawned 12 mainline games, multiple spinoffs, a series of novels, two feature films, and more. As per Toybook.com, American Dream’s creative manager, Atreyu Alcantar said: “We’re not building a set that looks like Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza – we’re building Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza.” The announcement revealed that inside the pizzeria, customers will be able to order pizza, play arcade games, experience a stage show featuring the line-up of Freddy, Bonnie and Chica, and a separate one at Foxy’s Pirate Cove.
The games industry is stifled by a culture of fear A workshop at Madeira Games Summit concluded that maintaining courage in your convictions is the key to successful game development The games industry is stifled by a culture of fear that prioritises algorithmic trends and market research over the creative conviction and personal taste required to produce genuine hits. That was the conclusion of a workgroup hosted by developer and consultant Rami Ismail at the 2026 DevGAMM Madeira Games Summit, which took place in May. The Vlambeer co-founder's workgroup – entitled "We're moving fast and losing what made us good (creativity, craft & the future)" – called for the industry to reject risk-averse decision-making, asserting that the reflexive avoidance of failure has become a greater threat to success than the inherent uncertainty of creative work. Ismail gave the following summation: "The industry’s fear of risk is currently the largest risk it faces." A new report sheds more light on the situation at Xbox that led to the big news this week that Microsoft was cutting 3,200 jobs at the gaming company, divesting from studios, and making other cutbacks to "reset" the business. Bloomberg reported that Microsoft spent "nearly $80 billion" in the past 10 years on deals to help revitalize Xbox and realize its dream for Xbox Game Pass, but those plans did not pan out the way Microsoft envisioned. Regarding the $80 billion in spending in the past decade, this came from Microsoft's blockbuster acquisitions of Activision Blizzard ($75.4 billion) and ZeniMax ($7.5 billion), as well as the purchases of developers like Ninja Theory, Obsidian, and Double Fine. Black Ops 6, the first new Call of Duty game to launch into Game Pass, reportedly missed out on $300 million in sales due to its inclusion on Game Pass.

Romeo is a Dead Man Review: More Lynchian lunacy from one of gaming's most uncompromising studios Our review of Romeo is a Dead Man delves into the ultra-violent and ultra-stylish action of Grasshopper Manufacture's latest new IP. When zombies, no, interdimensional aliens, eat your face clean off your skull, the only thing to do is become a cybernetic agent of the Space-Time FBI. Romeo is a Dead Man has style dripping from every orifice like the flesh of the unworthy staring into the Ark of the Covenant. Grasshopper continued to refine that spirit and combined it with a stronger gameplay loop than ever before in the excellent No More Heroes 3, but the most memorable parts of that game were the scenes which incorporated FMV and different, mixed-media art-styles into the medley.
