There are far too many promising indie games releasing every week to keep up, but this one, Queen's Domain , has really caught my eye. It releases onto PS5 today for £15.99 / $19.99, and it's inspired by King's Field , the series FromSoftware made before Demon's Souls . Essentially, it's an RPG blending retro visuals and the fantasy RPG genre to create a difficult adventure based around combat and exploration. You travel to an island called the Isle of Naesied, where your father disappeared.
It has been a couple of days since the Indie World Showcase, so, just like clockwork, Nintendo is on hand with its handy infographic, featuring every title in the presentation. While it might not have been wall-to-wall bangers, a quick glance at the pic showcases that there was a lot of good stuff on display — particularly when you remember that it was only 15 minutes long. Celeste and TowerFall have been removed from the Xbox store in a move to "support the BDS boycott" against Microsoft This follows fellow indie dev House House announcing Big Walk will not be coming to Xbox It's a good day to love Celeste! Earlier today it was discovered that Celeste had been removed from the Xbox Store while it remained on the PlayStation and Nintendo digital storefronts. Now, as shared by the game's co-creator Maddy Thorson, it's been confirmed that both Celeste and TowerFall were removed from store expressly in support of the BDS called boycott against Xbox over Microsoft providing support to the Israeli military as it enacts its genocide of the Palestinian people. We did this to support the BDS boycott — Maddy Thorson (@maddymakesgames.com) October 29, 2026 at 2:40 PM For those not in the know, BDS called for the boycott of Microsoft and Xbox games and hardware last year over the tech company providing AI software to the Israeli military which was used specifically to target Palestinian civilians; Microsoft have even confirmed that they were providing this software.
In 2023, an anonymous modder released one of the best horror games of the decade, and they still haven't broken character MyHouse.wad barrages players with horrible things they've never experienced in a game before. For a lot of people, the appeal of horror is being surprised and disturbed by something they've never seen before. In recent years, I've sourced this rare feeling from movies like Obsession, where the gender dynamics of that story made it feel a bit dangerous, or Speak No Evil, which has one of the most shocking and nihilistic endings that I can recall. I even find that freshness in a modern classic like Pearl, which isn't really scary, but contrasts a technicolour old Hollywood style with a singularly unsettling Mia Goth performance to great effect.

After proudly proclaiming that "we vibe coded the Epic Games Launcher to be faster than the other guy," he once again slated Steam's AI disclosure policy, claiming that "forcing developers to write a political statement to be used against them by the hate mob they're helping organize is abhorrent." More recently, he went as far as to say that "Valve has held gaming back for years by locking developers' PC games into Steamworks' social walled garden where players can't talk to other players on iOS, Android, Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, or even other PC stores." That's, uh, a questionable statement on multiple levels, and understandably, Chet Faliszek, who previously worked on Portal, Half-Life, and Left 4 Dead, has now responded with some thoughts. In my spare time, you're sure to find me on my Nintendo Switch or PS5 playing through story-driven RPGs like Xenoblade Chronicles and Persona 5 Royal, nuzlocking old Pokemon games, or going for a Victory Royale in Fortnite.
'AAA publishers are abusing early access,' Denis Dyack says, and that's making things harder for everyone else Dyack believes that games like Subnautica 2 are "skewing player expectations" for early access games. "AAA publishers are abusing early access, skewing player expectations in such a way that it heavily disadvantages smaller independent developers." Denis Dyack, known for his work on games including Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain and Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, says big game developers are "abusing early access" by using it as a marketing tool for highly polished games that are ready for full release anyway. Ethan McKinnon, who joined Deadhaus Sonata developer Apocalypse Studios as creative director after the game's rough early access launch earlier this year, added that "players naturally compare everything in the same marketplace, so smaller teams are being held to a much higher standard than they were in the past." Interestingly, Subnautica 2 creative director Anthony Gallegos seemed to agree with at least part of Dyack's proposition, saying in the same report that early access is "not a few edge-case games participating anymore." "Early access could mean a game like ours doing long-term open development, or it could be a game three months from a 1.0 release that's effectively doing a paid beta soft launch and using the Early Access term as a way to soften player expectations," Gallegos said. In a lot of ways, we were too focused on what made our game so different and unique that it took our attention away from making sure we got the basics done right." McKinnon put it more simply: "Developers need to treat early access like a real launch, because players do." 2026 games: All the upcoming games Best PC games: Our all-time favorites Free PC games: Freebie fest Best FPS games: Finest gunplay Best RPGs: Grand adventures Best co-op games: Better together Andy has been gaming on PCs from the very beginning, starting as a youngster with text adventures and primitive action games on a cassette-based TRS80.

If Kane Parsons does make a Backrooms sequel then it'll be to 'poke at' aspects of the first film that 'didn't feel like it accurately spoke to the cultural core of Backrooms' Give me The Bacteria or give me death! The Backrooms left me with more questions than answers, which to be fair is exactly what I wanted from it. It's still touch and go whether Parsons will even revisit The Backrooms on the silver screen, but if he did there are a couple of things he'd apparently do differently: "I consider it, me advancing and doubling down on the strengths that I think are more universally recognised about the core idea," Parsons says in an interview with The Kyle Buchanan Show. Ultimately, though, this is all just theories and abstract ideas, as Parsons doesn't confirm if a sequel is even in the works "because I like being subversive, and the excitement comes from not sharing—so I can't say." 2026 games: All the upcoming games Best PC games: Our all-time favorites Free PC games: Freebie fest Best FPS games: Finest gunplay Best RPGs: Grand adventures Best co-op games: Better together Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team.
