We are back with our latest look at the UK charts, and after last week's excitement with all those newcomers, it's a slightly more familiar picture this time. The wonderful Switch 2 exclusive, Orbitals (which landed in third place in its debut week, let's not forget), has drifted down to 18th this time, likely having found the majority of its audience right from the jump. The other two previous podium holders, The Blood of the Dawnwalker and Onimusha: Way of the Sword , hold down the top spots once again, but flip positions this time — Switch 2 sales continue to make up a small 7% of the latter. A YouTuber has taken Lego engineering underwater, building a 6.5-pound radio-controlled submarine packed with functional Lego Technic components. Brick Experiment Channel has spent years developing and testing different versions of the homemade submarine, gradually adding more advanced systems with each iteration. Its latest creation, dubbed Submarine 5.0, successfully navigated both a swimming pool and a fast-flowing river. The new version weighs 6.5 lbs and uses an acrylic hull, but much of the hardware controlling its movement has been built or modified using Lego parts.
I know I'm around two decades late to the party, but I recently purchased and then completed the excellent FPS, F.E.A.R. This came after beating Sprawl zero, an exciting new shooter by a small developer called Maeth. Sprawl zero hearkens back to the age of early 2000s FPS titles, taking inspiration from the likes of the aforementioned F.E.A.R., but also Halo and Half-Life. A Super Soldier By All Accounts Take the slow-mo from F.E.A.R., the Gravity Gun from Half-Life 2, and pack those powers into a Spartan from Halo, and you might get something resembling Sprawl zero.
This week in PC games: Wardogs, Shroom and Gloom, a heist game from the King of Dragon Pass creators, and a bullet time FPS inspired by F.E.A.R. What we're feeding the Maw Hello there, loyal regulars and filthy, fickle drop-ins! A merry New Week to you, wherever you are. Thanks for feeding the Maw while we were away last Monday.
No Man's Sky and Hello Games lead Sean Murray is back on social media with more vague emoji-posting – this time in the form of a cocktail emote that sure looks a whole lot like it might be referencing the upcoming Cosmos update for the survival game. You know, because of the drink, the cosmopolitan? Also known as a "cosmo" – and that's what folks think Murray is teasing here. It all started with a post on X that included a single cocktail emoji.
Future imperfect: Five predictions for the next decade | Opinion Rarely has the industry looked to the future with such trepidation – but this turmoil is a transition, not a crash, and some paths ahead are visible A lot of minds around the industry currently seem focused on one thing: the future. Whether it was Amir Satvat's Gamescom Dev keynote, or the plethora of industry luminaries who lined up to discuss ongoing and impending turmoil for Edge magazine's latest issue, the topic of the moment is what's next – and the mood is apprehensive, to say the least. 1983 wasn't a downturn or a rebalancing; it was a near-collapse of industry revenues from over $3 billion in 1983 to a mere $100 million by 1985. Budget growth is slowing – but won't stop Playable Worlds CEO (and MMORPG legend) Raph Koster cited some figures in the Edge article suggesting that inflation-adjusted budgets for games have risen from around $1 million in the mid-nineties to $10 million by 2005, and eventually to $100 million by 2015.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is widely considered to be one of the best outings of the entire franchise, and a lot of that is down to the vision that Alfonso Cuarón brought to the franchise. The auteur, who is also behind films like Y tu mamá también, Gravity, and Children of Men, brought a unique take on one of the darkest Potter books, and it really paid off. Fans of the franchise have long wondered why he didn't return to direct any more of the movies. "We asked Alfonso if he wanted to do the fourth, and he said, 'Cabrón,'" Heyman said on Harry Potter: The Official Film Podcast, referencing a Spanish slang term.

Fear not, Control fans: Control Resonant will be packed with lore despite the combat-heavy trailers we've seen so far, according to developer Remedy. The lack of focus on story in promotional footage, says Remedy senior communications manager Miika Huttunen, is no reflection of the game's content, but instead a deliberate decision by the team to have the narrative side of the game on lockdown until release. In short: You'll get your fill, you just have to wait. The sneak peeks we've had of the game so far have been mainly combat-focused, a result of combat being something that doesn't need to be revealed gradually to the player.

Unknown Duskbloods characters There are also a few characters that we've seen glimpses of in The Duskbloods reveal trailer, but they did not feature in the closed network test, so very little is known about them: Black leather guy: Clad in a black suit and wielding a katana, this certified edgelord may serve as The Duskblood's equivalent of the Executor from Elden Ring Nightreign, using a curved sword for parrying rather than blocking with a shield.
Inner Pocket Publishing is "building a quiet corner for people who love thoughtful single-player games" New indie label is aiming for a highly curated, distinct catalogue rather than a generalist approach of signing "whatever they think will sell" A team of industry veterans from Critical Reflex, Gaijin Entertainment, and Nozomu Games has established the indie label Inner Pocket Publishing. Inner Pocket's core team consists of four co-founders: CEO Artem Oleinik from Gaijin Entertainment; head of marketing Yaroslav Kadyshev, formerly of Critical Reflex; and Nozomu Games co-founders Ivan Bushmin and Eva Manuilovich, serving as head of publishing and art director, respectively. Inner Pocket partnered with Nozomu Games to launch Burn With Me, an occult deck-burner where players sacrifice cards to gain powers, on PC. Other Inner Pocket titles include Hardlane Studio's Outcast Tales, Justcamh's Nonolith, and Jamwitch's The Archives of Trevosa.
Bain & Co: Research shows only one in five players seek out new titles Firm's report also found that focused games are more likely to find commercial success than safe, generic ones Global gaming software revenue has grown at a compound annual rate of 3% over the past four years and is expected to continue at this pace for the next four years. This is according to Bain & Company's annual Gaming Report, which surveyed over 5,300 players worldwide. Baldur's Gate 3 attracted players by targeting "a highly specific target audience," while Concord entered "a crowded hero-shooter market and had trouble convincing players already invested in free-to-play games to make the $40 purchase." Bain & Co analysed public data on 100 titles released since 2023 and found that 83% of focused games targeting a specific player type achieved commercial success, compared to 50% of unfocused titles. 86% of teenagers reported spending money on gaming-related activities each month, compared to just over half of players in their 50s, 36% in their 60s, and 27% in their 70s.
