I knew going into BlizzCon 2026 that we'd get some Diablo news, but I expected a Diablo 4 expansion introducing a new Baal storyline, not Diablo 5. It's a long way away, scheduled for a spring 2029 release , but that didn't stop Blizzard revealing enough information for us to build a picture of what the new action role-playing game will be like. And if there's one thing I took from the information, it's that Diablo 5 is much more than simply a continuation of Diablo 4.
Netflix has announced three new adaptations of Sega games: a Crazy Taxi film, a Sonic animated series “built for kids who want to feel a little edge,” and a live-action movie based on the upcoming Stranger Than Heaven from Yakuza developer RGG Studio. The Crazy Taxi movie will be the first project released, though it doesn’t have a debut date yet. Netflix also already has three seasons of a Sonic show called Sonic Prime. Netflix is making a Crazy Taxi movie and a Sonic show with ‘edge’ Netflix is teaming up with Sega for three new video game adaptations: Crazy Taxi, Sonic, and Stranger Than Heaven.

Diablo 4 won't receive more expansions moving forward, as Blizzard shifts its focus to the newly revealed Diablo 5 instead. As revealed during BlizzCon 2026's opening ceremony , Diablo 5 is slated to be coming in Spring 2029 and is set 100 years after Diablo 4 in a world where the titular Lord of Terror reigns supreme. In an interview with PC Gamer , Diablo game director Brent Gibson said there were no plans for additional Diablo 4 expansions, as the team is instead "focused on seasons [for Diablo 4] and getting to Diablo 5." He added that Blizzard told the "story of Hatred" culminating in the Lord of Hatred expansion, and now it's moving forward to tell the "story of Terror." That doesn't mean support for Diablo 4 will end anytime soon. It sounds like Diablo 4's seasons will lead into the events of Diablo 5, even though the latter takes place a century later.

The AA games industry needs "a few more Expedition 33s" before publishers stop seeing smaller games as a major financial risk, says Valor Mortis director Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was a tornado while developer Sandfall Interactive was anticipating more of a pleasant breeze, selling a total of over 8 million copies, and helping reset expectations for how hard a AA game is supposed to make you cry. In any case, Ratusznik tells GamesIndustry.biz at this year's Gamescom, "We had this enormous success of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, but still publishers find the AA segment quite risky." The director continues, "We probably need a few more Expedition 33s to just prove them wrong.
"We probably need a few more Expedition 33s to just prove them wrong" – the maker of Valor Mortis on why publishers should have faith in AA Polish studio One More Level struggled on after losing its funding, but found a saviour in the form of a film company spin-off Over the past 12 years, Polish studio One More Level has carved out a niche in the world of AA games with projects whose production values often approach those of AAA titles. Its eye-catching 2020 cyberpunk action platformer Ghostrunner launched to critical acclaim and commercial success, selling 5.6 million units according to Video Game Insights estimates, and it was followed by a sequel in 2023. Over the past few years, investment has dried up at the same time as competition has increased, so smaller publishers have tended to prefer betting on games with smaller budgets of $1 million or less, while the big players have gone all in on evergreen titles. But for Valor Mortis, One More Level initially signed up with the indie label Private Division, only for parent Take-Two to begin scaling back the publisher in 2024, with Take-Two head Strauss Zelnick saying that the firm wanted to focus on AAA: "We're in the business of making great big hits." (Private Division's catalogue was sold and the company reemerged as Fictions in 2025; the publisher is behind the recently released Beast of Reincarnation from Pokémon studio Game Freak.) Ratusznik says One More Level was considering self-publishing Valor Mortis after the Private Division deal fell through.

Tabletop role-playing games have reached an all-time high in popularity. Turns out, there’s a certain appeal about rounding up a group of friends together to go through an adventure while chucking dice in the process. For over half a century, the juggernaut of the genre has been none other than Dungeons & Dragons, designed by Gary Gygax and made super-popular through Critical Role, Stranger Things, multiple feature films, and countless other media. For those who truly don’t want to ditch the D&D 5E system, there’s also a conversion of The One Ring into the rules system that’s titled Lord of the Rings 5E, which is a fantastic supplement (and the one that hits my table the most).

Over the past couple weeks, we've finally learned a bit more about the next entry in Square Enix's Kingdom Hearts series. In an extended Kingdom Hearts 4 trailer revealed during D23 , Disney's annual fan event, we were given a first look at Coco's Land of The Dead, and its narrative implications already have us speculating as to what worlds could come next . But while pondering what worlds could realistically be in Kingdom Hearts 4 is fun, you know what's even better? Bite my shiny, metal– -- Jessica Cogswell Post-Apocalyptic Earth (Planet of the Apes) The Planet of the Apes trilogy that began with Rise of the Planet of the Apes and concluded with War for the Planet of the Apes (we don't need to talk about Kingdom here) is massively entertaining and emotionally affecting.

"I'm a massive fan of Aliens, but it is a very different beast": Why Creative Assembly are still ignoring every movie but the original in Alien Isolation 2, despite heading planetside Or, why Alien: Isolation 2 isn't Aliens: Isolation Creative Assembly have themselves a particular constraint when making Alien: Isolation 2. The sequel to their 2014 horror title would only reference their first game and the original 1979 Ridley Scott Alien film. It ignores all the other films that came after. That includes James Cameron's Aliens, the immediate sequel to Scott's film, which, like Alien: Isolation 2, moves the action from a space station to an isolated planetside colony.
Our Verdict The Blood of Dawnwalker is a resolutely miserable horror RPG with some great ideas of its own, though it doesn’t always have the courage to follow them through. 14 years on, the creator of DayZ is still searching for a solution to survival gaming's biggest problem: 'I think I am going to die without having solved it' You might think making one of the most influential games of this century would be a source of unending happiness for its creator. But for Dean 'Rocket' Hall, founder of RocketWerkz, the relationship with his most famous creation isn't that simple. I'll be like 'Hey, a lot of our DLC, even on Icarus— which is really good—sometimes we'll only make $100,000 from it. It might have cost us $120,000 to make.

(Given that, at their peak, individual titles in this lineage broke $1bn in sales, it's not difficult to see why they would have been acquisition targets.) By 2015, though, the spark was dwindling.
4 Penny Coffins is Jack the Ripper Meets Among Us, with a little bit of Psychonauts thrown in for fun. In the upcoming social investigation game, up to 8 players hunt a hidden murderer through lies, shifting alibis, and hard evidence. One of the players is the Ripper, a “gleeful demon concealed behind a facade of humanity,” stalking the winding alleys and rotting byways of 1888 London. Ahead of IGN debuting 4 Penny Coffins’s gameplay teaser during gamescom 2026, which you can see in the player below, I spoke to Other Ocean Interactive Marketing Manager Jared Petty about the game’s mechanics, unique style (think stylized gore on top of monochromatic photographs), and Tim Schafer-inspired humor.
There has never been a more appropriate time to use the phrase, "A new player has entered the game," than after Gamescom 2026. While the event has been used to show off upcoming games for years, this is the first year where Gamescom's opening night has had a significant Chinese gaming industry presence. With games like Ananta, The Defiant, and Nodusfall coming in the near future, it's a clear sign that other AAA developers are going to have to put their best foot forward if they wish to compete. Tides of Annihilation is evidently inspired by the tale of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table; Nodusfall is being advertised as a sort of Elden Ring and Monster Hunter mashup with co-op elements; and Showa American Story is a kind of absurdist beat-'em-up that (as the name suggests) satirizes American culture.
