While we still know little about Persona 6, some former leads on the series have given us an idea of where it should go, discussing the soul of the series at large during a recent roundtable discussion. Appearing at games culture and arts festival The Tenth Mosaic, Persona 3, 4, and 5 director Katsura Hashino, character designer Shigenori Soejima, and composer Shoji Meguro reflect on what makes a Persona game a Persona game. While you might think of high school drama with a touch of the supernatural, Hashino, as per Automaton, would say "chaos," as he makes an effort not to be too selective about what he leans on to depict adolescence. Latest Videos FromGamesRadar+ Adding to this, Soejima says that "changing to reflect the times" is another important part of the beloved JRPG series, particularly in its settings and storylines.
Sonic has had a rough go at things lately, what with the myriad games that haven't been hitting like they used to. Sega appears to be aware of that and has acknowledged that, although the games have struggled recently, the franchise as a whole is back in the zeitgeist again--and it's all thanks to the live-action movies. In an interview with Automaton at the Tokyo Game Show , series producer Takashi Iizuka spoke about the impact that director Jeff Fowler's three live-action movies have had on repopularizing Sonic again. "Thanks to the movies, awareness of the Sonic series has grown, and more people around the world have become interested in Sonic as a character and in the games," Iizuka said when asked about the positive effect other media has had on the franchise.
Платформер с поездом в главной роли (см. Denshattack!) Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.
No, it's the children who are wrong: The Wii and PS3 are 'retro' now, according to iconic Japanese gaming show 80% of nearly 17,000 viewers agree: Wii Sports is even more of a grandpa game in 2026 than it was two decades prior. Retro gaming is just regular gaming to a sick, twisted mind like mine (and that of everyone I know, since we spend all our time playing old crap). The poll reportedly got over 14,000 responses with 71% voting in favor, and when a second round followed, that percentage rose to 80% among nearly 17,000 voters. Well, we have a retro gaming scene too, and if we agree for the sake of argument that those consoles are retro on the basis that they're turning 20 this year, that would mean the following PC games are also retro: Medieval II: Total War, Half-Life 2: Episode One, Dawn of War - Dark Crusade, Neverwinter Nights 2, the first season of Telltale's Sam & Max reboot, Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, and perhaps most upsettingly, Company of Heroes.
The developers of the Palworld TCG are apologizing to players and fans for having such low stock. Bushiroad is struggling to keep the card game spin-off of the indie hit monster survival game in stock due to one of the biggest hurdles for all major card game releases: scalpers. The Palworld TCG Stock Shortages According to a report by Automaton, the Palworld TCG and its first booster pack, "Dawn of Palpagos," were released on July 30. Thanks to pre-order sales, the game sold over 3.5 million booster packs worldwide on that day.
Director Naoki Hamaguchi won't leave many loose threads hanging by the time the credits roll in Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, so any purely hypothetical DLC that gets made will need to focus on the "untold stories" of specific characters rather than continuing the story. This isn't the first time Naoki Hamaguchi's discussed potentially adding to Final Fantasy 7 Revelation after launch next year, but what form that might take has been up in the air. Speaking to Automaton, Hamaguchi's now clarified that the third and final game in his Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy will tie up the story. "We're serious about concluding the series with FF7 Revelation, and we're proceeding with development with that goal in mind." Should that hypothetical DLC become really real DLC, Hamaguchi says the team wants to "create a kind of spin-off focused on a specific character that depicts their untold stories," similar to what they did with Final Fantasy 7 Remake's Episode Intermission DLC, which followed Yuffie in a short campaign giving the character depth that definitely wasn't seen in the original game.
The director of JRPG-inspired GOTY sensation Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 says he prefers linear stories to the sprawling open narratives of Baldur's Gate, Fallout, and Skyrim. Speaking to Automaton Media, Expedition 33 director Guillaume Broche admits that "'RPG' is a very big term" that includes a wide variety of games, but says that when he considers Western RPGs, he thinks "more of games like Baldur's Gate, Fallout, or Skyrim, where the character you play changes the story and you kind of become the protagonist yourself." In those games, "you make choices that affect how other characters react and how the story's ending plays out." As a general rule, "Western RPGs let you make your own story." But in Japanese RPGs, he says, "the story being told is quite linear," and that's something Broche prefers. Latest Videos FromGamesRadar+ "You get a protagonist, you get the characters," he explains. "I feel like it allows you to tell a stronger story and make more memorable characters." It's a fair assessment of the games he cites – Tav, the Dragonborn, and Fallout 3's Lone Wanderer are all fairly blank slates when compared to Maelle, Gustave, and Verso.
Clair Obscur developers see Sony's no-disk announcement as 'a sad decision', because they 'like to go outside, buy a game, and come back home with it' "I think it's part of the beauty of art too—that it's something tangible that you can touch." Sony won't be producing game disks anymore—a decision that's been met industry-wide with a mixture of frustration and ambivalence, depending on which side of the fence you fall on. Personally, I don't think a videogame company or distribution platform having final say over whether you concretely own something is healthy, even if I am admittedly arm-deep in Steam purchases. It's also something that makes the creators of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 a little melancholy, per a recent interview with Automaton: "Personally, I find it super sad because I really like video game stores," says CEO and Creative Director of Sandfall Interactive Guillaume Broche. Silent Hill f writers were challenged to read "100-200 books a year" during production What the f. Silent Hill producer Motoi Okamoto said the scriptwriters of Silent Hill f "pressured each other" to read "100 to 200 books a year", including those from f's writer Ryukishi07, to ensure they had a thorough understanding of the writer's "style and quirks". As reported by GameWatch (日本語/Japanese), and spotted by Automaton, Okamoto stated at the recent CEDEC2026 conference that "if you're going to commission a writer, you should read at least the majority of their entire body of work before commissioning them". "That's why I absolutely wanted to announce a new game at the same time as the remake." With a strong cast of characters, a 1960s Japan setting, and a dense atmosphere, Silent Hill f made an impression on veterans and newcomers alike, and it's been so successful that Takeshi Masago and Tamami Hiraoka, who played Hinako's father and mother respectively, have been made tourism ambassadors for Gero City in Japan's Gifu Prefecture, the city that inspired the game's rural village.
While some fans are still holding out hope for a financial savior to sweep in and save Nagoshi Studios' debut title, Gang of Dragon , more small details have emerged from print and social media this week that paint a very unpleasant picture of the studio's fate. Things haven't been looking particularly rosy for the upstart Nagoshi Studios--headed by former Yakuza series creator Toshihiro Nagoshi--for a while now. Following a reveal of their debut title, , at The Game Awards , things soon looked very shaky when it was revealed that their primary funder, Chinese giant NetEase, was pulling out of further commitments . https://twitter.com/Wario64/status/2067338404103180591 With such a high-profile figure now listing his involvement with the studio as "ex-," combined with Nagoshi's lack of title in Famitsu, it's hardly a stretch to assume that Nagoshi Studio is either defunct or running on fumes and praying for a miracle.
