Activision has been in hot water recently over included footage of a real life tragedy in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. The clips, which featured the aftermath of a deadly crush that occurred in 2022, received immediate backlash from the victims' families. The disaster, which killed 160 people, was featured prominently in the game's opening scene despite the story focusing on a fictional North Korean invasion. “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is a work of fiction created to provide realistic immersion," Activision representatives said in a statement sent to South Korean media.
Stupid Never Dies makes a strong, if extremely weird, first impression. Wrapping roguelite progression around the system of an action-RPG and setting that story in an inventive punk-inspired world of monsters is an inviting hook. Plus, it's hard not to feel some affection for the dimwitted hero and his undoubtedly creepy quest to revive the supposed love of his afterlife. But the inventive world and a few neat ideas can only carry this game so far, and I ultimately struggled to look past the repetitive and often imprecise combat.
You will soon be able to play as Austin Abrams in this fan-made, retro-style video game adapting Zach Cregger’s take on the Resident Evil universe, complete with fixed camera angles and all. An indie game developer who goes by the name “chicanogoth” on Instagram is going viral after sharing their progress for their video game adaptation… of a movie adaptation… of a game. It’s a Matryoshka doll-style line of thinking that the developer referenced in their viral video, jokingly calling it Resident Evil: The Movie: The Game. The project even earned recognition from Resident Evil 7 director Koshi Nakanishi, who shared it on social media with the caption, “WOW.” While the possibility of a sequel for Cregger’s RE movie is still up in the air, there’s no questioning its success at the box office; it surpassed $360 million worldwide and now stands as the 10th most successful video game movie ever made, out-earning Cregger’s previous films, Weapons and Barbarian, combined.
