How Pantaloon is curating an "evolving library of bold and bizarre games" with its new subscription service Co-founder Jamin Smith explores how the Playbill is "another mad experiment in a series of mad experiments that have – so far – not sunk the business" Over recent years, more and more companies have moved away from the traditional publishing model and set their sights on indie curation. Partly funded by a $150k investment announced earlier this year, the Playbill launches with 14 titles plus Pantaloon's original games. We want to keep our selection more lean in the service of our community being in step with each other." Launch lineup The Playbill's full launch lineup includes: Buckshot Roulette (Critical Reflex, Mike Klubnika), Silt (Fireshine, Spiral Circus Games), Ex Sanguis (Firesquid, Lightbulb Crew), Death Crown (5WORD Team), Kids (Playables), Four Last Things (Akupara Games, Joe Richardson), and Cabin Factory (Future Friends Games, International Cat Studios) Devolver's Virtue: Prologue (Juno Menager, Deconstructeam, Selkie Harbour) will be a timed-exclusive at launch, a visual novella companion piece to the upcoming Virtue and a Sledgehammer, releasing on October 27. Our own titles will sit in the service indefinitely, too." The full roster of games is available through a 'Primo' subscription ($4.99/£3.99 monthly, or $49.99/£39.99 annually).
11 underappreciated games you should buy in the Steam Autumn Sale, according to some of our biggest genre sickos We asked 11 very particular PCG staffers what game they think everyone should buy in Steam's Autumn Sale—here's what they picked. The ones where you have to read Skald: Against the Black Priory ($6.74 at 55% off) is one of my favorite games of the 2020s. In an age where we're spoiled for Warhammer games, 2015's Mordheim: City of the Damned ($2 at 90% off) is criminally overlooked. - Fraser Brown Online Editor - Andy Chalk US News Lead - Lauren Morton Lead SEO Editor - Andrea Shearon Evergreen Writer - Joshua Wolens News Writer - Morgan Park Staff Writer - Jody Macgregor Weekend/AU Editor - Jessica Kinghorn - Lincoln Carpenter News Writer - Christopher Livingston Senior Editor You must confirm your public display name before commenting Please logout and then login again, you will then be prompted to enter your display name.

"Xbox is not for sale": CEO Asha Sharma says "we will do whatever it takes" to turn the console maker's fortunes around No trade-ins. Despite mass layoffs at multiple first-party studios and major internal shakeups, CEO Asha Sharma has shot down speculation about a potential Xbox buyout. This year, Xbox began a corporate "reset" that plans to cut a total of 3,200 jobs across the company before next summer. So far, the restructure has resulted in three studios going independent (Double Fine, Compulsion Games, Undead Labs), while the fate of Hellblade maker Ninja Theory and Dishonored studio Arkane remains up in the air.

"Crowdfunding is fundamentally a marketing and a community exercise" – What developers need to know about funding a game with Kickstarter in 2026 Industry experts share their advice for running a successful Kickstarter campaign, why studios need to be wary of scammers, and why GIFs are vital to success We might be long past the days of games companies raising eye-watering figures on Kickstarter, but the platform is still a viable way to raise money to fund – at last part of – your game. Research from Ico Partners' Thomas Bidaux shows that in 2025, games companies raised $26 million on Kickstarter – level with 2024's figures, and one of the more successful years since the last big Kickstarter boom in 2015. Last year, 443 video game projects were successfully funded on Kickstarter, a minor reduction (4%) from 2024's figures. 55 game projects raised over $100,000 in 2025, while 11 made over $500,000.
"I think a lot of people don't understand the gravity of the situation as much as they should. Games and studios do not just simply come back from the dead and from end of service for their flagship game and they certainly do not do it in this tiny amount of time. We are so back." The reaction above from Destiny 2 content creator SneakyBeaver is typical of the wave of joy that met Bungie's announcement yesterday that Destiny 2 is being taken out of end-of-life maintenance mode. The reference is to a Dylan Thomas poem 'Do Not Go Quietly Into That Good Night,' but also a nod to a post made by Bungie principal comms manager dmg04, who posted the same quote around the time Destiny 2's mothballing was announced, which many took as a sign to fight back.
Amazon Game Studios looks to be getting out of the MMO business entirely, handing Western operations of Throne and Liberty and Lost Ark back to their respective developers. In two blog posts, Amazon Game Studios outlined its plans to transition both games to their South Korean creators in the coming months. For Throne and Liberty , that transition will happen in Q4 2026 as NC (formerly NCSoft) takes over, while Lost Ark's transition will happen in early 2027 and see Smilegate fully take the reins. It then followed up that success in 2022 by publishing and operating Lost Ark in the West, with Throne and Liberty following a similar playbook in 2024.
Dicehit Games urged players to pirate its roguelike rather than buy from gray-market key resellers peddling free promo codes. The sting that arrived just weeks after another indie developer watched 55,000 copies vanish through Steam refunds. Now, the team behind roguelike deckbuilder Runeveil fired off the warning on X after spotting ReStory: Chill Electronics Repairs going for pocket change on Instant-Gaming, explaining that rock-bottom prices usually mean someone flipped a free promo code meant for creators rather than anything the studio actually sold. Indie dev says pirate its game instead of buying resold keys In an August 10 thread, Dicehit Games explained that the keys floating around reseller sites were never meant for sale.
