Steam Next Fest is one of my favorite occurrences throughout any given year since I get to play games all day long trying to find cool stuff. In 2025, Steam Next Fest introduced me to titles like Ball x Pit and Absolum , and those quickly became two of my favorite releases later that year when I played and reviewed them. So especially now, when Next Fest rolls around, I try to play as much as I can to see what exciting sleeper titles the year may have in store for PC gaming. Creative director Mateusz Lenart says the series is about the "thin line between inspiration and obsession," and Layers of Fear 3 will again place players "inside an artist's unravelling mind" to "invite empathy, rather than judgement." Bloober Team's been on a bloody hot run lately with both Silent Hill 2 remake and Cronos: The New Dawn receiving much love from genre buffs, a stark improvement from its hit and miss history consisting of Layers of Fear, The Medium, and Blair Witch.

Bloober Team's countdown to Valentine's Day has ended, and despite all those rose references, it's not a Rule of Rose revival, but is, in fact, Layers of Fear 3. While the website had spurred all kinds of theories – for instance, taking the capital letters from the word salad on the site "RemosdNeulSerorehsoOvamCeyerd" is an anagram of "Cronos", leading some to speculate that this was a teaser for DLC for Cronos: The New Dawn – Bloober has marked the tenth anniversary of the horror game with confirmation of a third instalment. Dark Pictures sci-fi horror Directive 8020 will open its doors in May, letting some evil fleshslime loose Make sure you lock it behind yo- Until Dawn developers Supermassive Games have announced a release date for Dark Pictures sci-fi horror game Directive 8020. Following a delay announced as the studio laid off staff last year, Directive 8020's set to land this May. Supermassive have put out the fresh trailer above to celebrate, and as you can see, Directive 8020's a game with plenty of 'do one thing or do other thing' bits. The key is trying to work out which of your shipmates has been replaced with a body double secretly made of weird fleshslime.

I hope it's not true because it would be depressing to wait for over a year for Quake 2 and Ultima Online: 1994 Doom, Doom 2 1995 Abuse, SimCity 1996 Inner Worlds, Quake 1997 Nothing? I thought that LinCycles from 1996 was a commercial title, but a comment from the author is odd, and I have some doubts: https://happypenguin.altervista.org/sheet.php?gameid=57 Quoting: HamishOn a separate but related tangent, whether Call to Power was the first or second Linux game to be sold at retail is somewhat muddied by the fact that Macmillan Publishing announced their boxed Quake releases on May 13, 1999 (my fifth birthday) while Call to Power did not start shipping until May 15, 1999 despite being announced months earlier.I don't know it.
